Should’ve just used a different black widow villain. Taskmaster is a very unique character. He has nothing against anyone he fights (except Moon Knight), he’s just in it for the oaycheck. He’s also the one guy where Marvel’s quips actually work. Some of these writers need to ask themselves when making changes “Does this change make the character more interesting, or less.” A similar thing happened in Wandavision. The Ralph Bohner decision was moronic because “it’s just some guy” was the least interesting decision they could’ve made.
All the more disappointing because he was depicted pretty well in other media. Even Ultimate Spider-Man, despite being based on the Ultimate universe, had a more faithful Taskmaster than Black Widow.

Black Widow is tied with The Marvels for "Worst villain in an MCU flick".
The MCU isn't as villain-dependent as the DC movies, but it really really helps elevate an action film if the villain is cool and interesting.
It feels like good/great villains are a dying breed in the recent years. Especially in capeshit. We've had Ledger's Joker and since then you'd expect writers to try to one-up that, but what actually happened is that it's actually all downhill from there.

I like some of the DC villains still. I thought riddler in the batman for example was kino. Starro in the suidice squad was also really cool. I also liked dr sivana in the first shazam and i was so hyped for mr mind till they cucked out and didnt use him in the sequel

For all intents and purposes it's just a robot with no real agency or personality for 99% of its screentime and the 1% is literally "I'm free of mind control, I'm good now". That's about as deep as the characterization gets. It's worse than Malekith, because as shallow as he was, at least he had his own goals and what little personality he had instead of being a puppet.
With Bucky there was actual history, you saw what he's like in TFA, there was actual buildup of Steve and Bucky being friends,

And as bad as Mandarin was at least Kingsley got to ACT a little but. It wasn't good and it wasn't what anybody wanted but he at least interacted with Tony Stark on an important plot level. Marvel really needs to just go back and adapting actual material again.
