I work in surgical service and I’m convinced a lot of surgeons have some kind of autism. Some of them are very awkward and seem uncomfortable outside of surgical related situations. The ones that don’t seem autistic are the absolute apex of chads where they ooze confidence and charisma, but in a good way
They all care immensely where I work. The chad ones tend to be the neuro guys and the ortho surgeons while the autismos are the generals and robotics. The autismo ones typically have a much better reputation to work with in the room as they’re typically friendlier and are more patient with their techs and nurses. The chad surgeons are usually gruffer or will get short with the staff more easily but you can tell they’re all in it for the patient outcomes. I don’t have a lot of love for GPs and the floor/ER physicians, but I have a ton of respect for surgeons, even the ones that can be buttholes. The skills and mindset you have to have to do the things they do are unreal.
