I tried to watch it 3 times. It's too long, too up it's own ass and I drink too much alcohol. It's a really shitty movie
      >b-but you admitted you were drunk
If I can't finish a movie on THREE attempts, starting where I left off the second two times, it's got to be one of the worst movies ever made. I ultimately decided to not finish it, not due to passing out.

    I liked it,
the fact that we are in a point of history where the things that are praised are all virtue signaling hell and have to be deep but the Oscars awarded literal shitpost (this and the RRR song) was amazing

Every best picture winner is like that. Remember shape of water? Of course you don't, but you remember Bladerunner 2049 which came out the same year. Parasite won the year The Lighthouse came out which didn't even get nominated for anything, the academy awards are a joke. Apparently the 2018 winner was "Green Book", no idea what the frick that is but I guess it had a gay Black person in it back when they were still giving them awards before they moved on to asians

You don't remember the cinematic tour de force known as Green Book? It's the movie that solved racism, doofus.

Viggo Mortensen was the best part of that movie despite his character being a cartoonish buffoon. Or probably because.

I enjoyed Green Book, I don't get why people hate it so much.

Like Hidden Figures, it was very neat and tidy and very restrained. To the point of being saccharine and lacking depth. Not to say one can't enjoy it but given the source material, it shies away from and downplays a lot of interesting true things that happened for the sake of being more of a feel-good crowdpleaser.

It's been out for a year or so, right? I say we have another year and a half (to accommodate for strikes) before all the copycat films start rolling in. The last one that happened to was Parasite, where after two years of developing projects to recapture the same audience we got a ton of movies like The Menu and Triangle of Sadness at the same time. That will be Everything Everywhere's legacy.

You're not wrong but The Shape of Water is one of my favorite movies no matter how much this board likes to tear it apart so it gets at least a yearly rewatch from me. It's cute.

I just watched this and I spent the entire movie repeating the words "this is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes..." under my breath.
I fricking hated it. I was writhing around on the floor in front of the chair for the last 30 minutes it was so painful.
    >Ayy quirky A24 movie lmao
If you liked it you're in the wrong place

the best supporting actress oscar should have gone to the woman who played the daughter, not the IRS agent.

It's ok. But it's too much self aware of something like that. I don't know how to explain it. 3.5 stars for me.

    >Redditing: Every reddit everysub all at Morty's
everyone who liked this "le hecking alternate timeline WEED dildo ANAL PLUGS bro" garbage is braindead and doesn't belong on this board, it's that simple.
I'm glad Cinemaphile at least still has enough taste to gatekeep absolute slop like this, because without people with actual taste bullying every lost sheep that finds its way here, this would have gotten a 98% audience rating everywhere and 3 spin-offs by now. It's disingenuous """culture""" pandering at it's finest

You are literally unable to criticize this movie without using buzzwords

there's LITSCHERALY multiple criticisms in there, you're just too upset that you can't figure out what the lingo on the site you're using means, or what buzzwords even are, which is always ironic.
Wanna know some examples of ACTUAL buzzwords?:
        >This movie was INFANTILE.
        >I didn't like this movie because it insisted on itself too much.
        >This movie pandered to a crowd of midwits in an era of internet idiocracy and consumerism, pretending to subvert expectations while falling into the same pitfalls of stale superhero entertainment sprinkled with woke narratives, sexually-dependant humor and bite-sized quips.
        >Instead of challenging the norm like it pretends to, it IS the norm, and self-indulgently so. And the viewership and critical acclaim it received despite all that reflects the overall issue perfectly: It is nothing more but ready-made entertainment for the masses, enjoyed only by the pretentious and dimwitted.

There, I diluted it down so morons like you can maybe understand aswell. You won't tho, you'll just continue being mad that you like eating dogshit and other people call you out for it.

Movie is like some improv skit. If it doesn't make you cringe you're not human.
