            Anonymous

They were a team of women led by Max who would not have succeeded without his interference. Furiosa herself was utterly embarrassed and de-armed by Max. Max was the hero of Mad Max Fury Road. If that movie came out today, it would have played out like current year James Bond, where James takes a backseat on the motorcycle to a woman and isn't even the hero of his own damn story

I'm usually the one who complains that they take old franchises and remake them with feminists and Black folk, but in the case of Furiosa, you can't do that because it's the original creator doing what he wants to do with the series. Having said that, it's still possible that it's going to be woke trash, but the idea in and of itself should be acceptable to fans. Then again, it probably shouldn't have "A Mad Max Saga" as a subtitle if it's not a Mad Max movie.

        Anonymous

        >it's the original creator doing what he wants to do with the series.
He wanted to do the Wasteland until he ended up suing Warner. I tend to think doing this instead of another Mad Max movie was partly studio driven.

As in WB didn’t pay George the bonus they promised to him for Fury Road so he sued them. They were like 3 different sequels talked about, and Furiosa’s origin prequel more than likely is taken directly from the original writing process Miller did for Fury Road, which he has said had enough extra story for two additional movies

              Anonymous

If that's the case, then this 2024 movie is George Miller's creation for this world and fans should be okay with it. It can still end up being woke trash, but it's not the idea in and of itself that should make fans upset. And like I said before, tagging it with "A Mad Max Saga" is lame because it's not a Mad Max film.

              >As in WB didn’t pay George the bonus they promised to him for Fury Road so he sued them.
Right, so the studio compromised and rather than pay him the original agreed amount they negotiated a new deal (similar to what the deal they made with Groom to avoid paying him what he was owed for Forrest Gump) in which he would produce another movie with him but they wanted a Furiosa story, not Max.

Right, he sued them two years later because they hadn't paid him what was promised then lo and behold after their dispute is settled out of court Furiosa is announced as in development and the Wasteland is put on the backburner.

Miller was hinting about Furiosa movie as early as 2016 and the Mad Max: Wasteland subtitle was something that was dropped very early on when they were planning sequels. And Hardy likely had multiple commitments so developing Furiosa first was more logical rather than some corporate blackmail

                Anonymous

In October 2015 he confirmed the Wasteland as the next sequel (though the Wasteland was a working title at that point). He confirmed aside from one interaction with Max Furiosa wasn't in the story.
                https://www.ign.com/articles/2015/10/12/george-miller-says-furiosa-isnt-in-mad-max-sequel-story
In 2016 he suggested that Furiosa could make an interesting story.
In May 2017 he confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly there was still no plan for a Furiosa movie but Miller said it could be interesting.
                https://www.ign.com/articles/2016/01/07/george-miller-interested-in-making-a-furiosa-movie
6 months later he sued Warner Bros.
                https://www.baka.com.au/entertainment/movies/george-miller-sues-warner-bros-over-mad-max-fury-road-earnings-20171110-gziinh.html
The exact date of their settlement isn't around but in March 2020 Furiosa was announced that casting was underway and it would be the next sequel. The Wasteland is apparently still happening but there's nothing concrete about it and I'm sure that's provisional on the success of Furiosa.

It was probably Furiosa or nothing. If it's successful then we get more Mad Max. If not, that's it.

                Anonymous

It’s a shame the studio forced Miller to commit career suicide and the internet shit machine will puff up their decision while making no noticeable impact at the box office. It’s highly unlikely that Anya will attract as many women as she scares off men, casual movie going normie men.

I'm gonna stick up for about 30% of Thunderdome. The first like 25 minutes give or take is quite possibly my favorite Mad Max related anything. Intro is neat, Bartertown is great etc. but the movie completely deflates after that. So beyond that point, I absolutely agree with you anon. Isn't it true something happened to the script or something bizarre was going on with Miller at the time? Sure would explain plenty..

          Anonymous

          >Beyond Thunderdome was the first Mad Max film made without producer Byron Kennedy, who was killed in a helicopter crash in 1983.[8] Director George Miller was hesitant to continue without his producing partner, saying later: "I was reluctant to go ahead. And then there was a sort of need to – let's do something just to get over the shock and grief of all of that."[9] There is a title card at the end of film before the credits roll that reads: "...for Byron".[10]

          >Miller co-directed the film with George Ogilvie, with whom he had worked on the 1983 television miniseries The Dismissal. About this decision, he said: "I had a lot on my plate. I asked my friend George Ogilvie, who was working on the mini-series, 'Could you come and help me?' But I don't remember the experience because I was doing it to just... You know, I was grieving."

Robert Zemeckis, to his credit, won't let them touch Back to the Future. They probably hound him morning, noon and night saying "No Bobby, we'll be very respectful with the reboot! It'll only have two black lesbians!" Good on him for standing his ground all these years when they've probably brought dump trucks full of money to his house. I bet immediately after he dies they're going to remake it.

I have no idea why BTTF was spared. Maybe because Rick and Morty exists so there's no need to shit on Doc and Marty, maybe because Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy were already producers on those back in the 80s when they still had integrity so they think it should be preserved

That's the problem inherent in prequels: we don't need to see how our favorite characters became that way. Somehow Red Dead Redemption 2 is the only good prequel in existence. It's even better than the original.

Just the pic OP posted is enough to tell me it’s trash. Theron looked legitimately tough in FR. She looked legit worn and tired from battle. She never really does anything superhuman, she’s just a smart character that can handles a rig. Her actual combat is average and Max frequently shows her up. But that chick is way too “hot and cute action”.

I mean this is Furiosa at the start of her career, so of course she doesn't look as haggard?
And what outrageous action is she doing besides shooting at people?
I mean, I can't stop you from hating this if you WANT to badly enough. But hating on a movie that explores Furiosa's origin "becauz its about a gurl" is kinda stupid.

I know right? It's a movie made purely for the love of the genre (that he basically invented) rather than some soulless check-box trying to bring in 2 billon dollarinos. How dare a director make what he loves rather than cater to all the consoomers!!!

Listening to redditors is like the worst idea ever. I remember when the movie came out they all acted like she was so amazing but she was just another ordinary supporting character to me. She got plenty of development sure but who asked for this and was truly sincere about it? She's a piece of shit until the Fury Road movie.

Same as the Han Solo movie. Nobody wanted it. His character was already well defined and went through a 3 movie long character development. It’s heavily implied his life wasn’t entirely interesting before New Hope except him being a well known smuggler and very good pilot. And the solo movie added nothing to the character. Just watered down his legend to “he got a ship with cheat codes”.

        Anonymous

The worst part is that the movie itself isn't bad at all really, but the fact that it's a Han Solo origin story lead to nobody wanting to watch that shit.

          Anonymous

It was just pointless. The actor was annoying, they skipped over his military career, the only cool part of his story, slapped together a lazy friendship with chewy, did basically no piloting, and made everything cool about Han Solo trivial and dependent on dumb luck instead of skill.

Fury Road was easily the best action movie of the last decade. A lot of hard work went into it and it showed.
This one looks like an afterthought to please people asking for more Furiosa.
Maybe the CGI will look a little better by release time, but the fact that they used so much of it is a loss.

i dont mind female action stars, even in something like mad max. theron was fine, joy at least isnt an ugly sheboon.

but the problem is the execution. "I AM FURIOSA"
see this is just i am women heare roar and/or capeshit garbage. its utterly cringe and takes you out of the movie

the reason people dont like women or blacks in movies and shit isnt because of the mystical racist and sexist boogeymen, its because its always this shit; doing it for the sake of the message and the character being written as female or as nlack ratger than as the character.

the action and all the filmmaking looks great as it did in fury road (some of the novelty has worn off now though so it will feel like a retread), but its wasted on this bullshit
