    >Paying your son minimum wage or near that for grueling work hours in a company you started and then letting him inherit it is the same as casting my nephew in a multi million dollar movie and making him a millionaire overnight because we're both israeli and have to keep the industry as clean of whites as possible

your son minimum wage or near that for grueling work hours in a company you started
That doesn't happen. When it's nepotism to get minimum wage jobs it's usually the children or relatives of someone who works there already in that position or the kid of someone with a higher position in the company. The kid of the owner won't be doing a minimum wage job.

I guess people just pay attention to what they can get away with rather than aspiring towards virtue. There has to be immense pressure in Hollywood to nepotize for the simple fact that everyone else is doing it.

nepotism isn't really a big deal most of the time
it only becomes a problem when someone unqualified gets into a position of power through nepotism
I don't see the problem with a father getting his son a low-level job at his company and shit like that

  7. 1 year ago

Nepotism doesn't matter, because when nepotism becomes an actual problem, it's only self-defeating. It's a simple reality that you can only work with people you know, and people don't like working with people they don't like. You're not the son of a producer. You're not the son of a congressman either. You are who you are, and it's neither fair nor unfair. If you want to make movies, you're going to have to work with other people who not only want to make movies, but know how to make movies. Not only how to make movies, but how to market and distribute them. It's not a solo endeavor. If you want to make shoes, you're going to have to learn from someone who already knows how. You're only mad about the one, because there's more money and more fame. You're hardly any different than the women who want equity in the boardroom, but not the brickyard.

            Yes it is
            >criticize something
            >instead of attacking the criticism and arguing why it's wrong attack the character of the person making the claim and deflect to something else
The majority of people on this site have lost the ability to defend something they believe in. It's like if I saw a film sucks, most of you won't say I am wrong you will demand me to say a film I like and it doesn't matter what it is, even if you like it you will attack the movie and my character. This is literally 99% of arguments on this site now.

The thread is about RLM and Mike's comments about Hollywood nepotism. You complained that Mike is using a whataboutism by pointing out all the other places where people don't really care about nepotism. Except, his argument is solid reasoning. If nepotism is always bad, then it's bad in all cases. There are some cases where it's clearly not bad, but is in fact good. Therefore, nepotism isn't always bad. Therefore, if you are going to complain about nepotism in hollywood, you have to explain why nepotism is bad in this case, because nepotism itself can be either good or bad and it depends on the case as to whether it is the one or the other.

Stop with the ad hominems about other generically addressed posters and actually interact with the argument. Ya chud.

When you get old you only have two options, you become bitter and hate everything, a slave to nostalgia, OR you become more chill and giving less of a frick about anything, giving free passes to everything and everyone because you don't care anymore and would rather not make a fuss or get mad because life is short and who cares
Guess which one is healthier and makes you a more pleasant person to be around
