People nowadays legitimately think you cannot relate to a character unless they have the same race, gender, and sexuality as you. Indie videogames are doing their own version of it with the influx of unchangeable genderless protags. You gotta be LGBT or "you're only getting 'they' pronouns and you better like it!"
On one hand I respect that representation matters, but what we have in a lot of cases here is just an industry rat race scrambling to make that into the perfect product while attacking the other shows for not going for their audience
