I am so tired of cartoons with absolutely no Japanese involvement being labeled "anime", regardless of how good they are. Which then leads to wiki pages being edited to call it "anime", people saying stupid things like "My favorite anime is Scott Pilgrim", and all manner of other stupidity.
At this point it basically seems like the only threshold something has to cross is "it is a cartoon with an actual good art style" and that's enough for people to call it anime.

Anon, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was animated by the Japanese. Science Saru is a Japanese studio. You could argue that it doesn't make it Japanese enough but it still disproves your statement that it had
>absolutely no Japanese involvement
op should've said no Japanese influence outside of animation because a bunch of 80s and 90s cartoon were animated in Japan and nobody considers them anime
op is a homosexual for that mess up
>op is a homosexual for that mess up
something we can all agree on
Black person an animator from California animated the Roxanne vs Ramona fight
Ok? That's only one scene. Stupid Black person
yes one scene which defeats the "made by the japanese it must be anime" logic because it wasnt made by the japanese anymore, it was made by them plus others, you Black person
I never said that, I was only disproving OP's claim that there was "absolutely no japanese involvement". I don't give a frick if it's actually anime. But OP saying there were no Japanese involved is objectively wrong. moronic Black person.
Do you really think there has never been anime that had parts of it animated by people outside of japan?
Who gives a shit its just a different way of calling a animation
The male-gaze-y lesbian kiss definitely had to be Japanese though.
>absolutely no Japanese involvement
Define anime
NTA but Japanese animation
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was animated in Japan by a Japanese Studio; ergo, it's an anime.
I agree with you, but to be fair to OP this show doesn't really look like anime, if you know what I mean
>doesn't really look like anime, if you know what I mean
It means you are ignorant because anime isn't a "look".
Yes it is you moron, anime is a style of cartoon where all the people are drawn basically the same way. It's like how the west has calarts/adventure time style for a lot of its cartoons.
I couldn't care less about this debate tbh. I would personally say that this is an anime, because Science Saru is a japanese studio.
I guess it still counts as Cinemaphile because it's loosely based of the comic series
No, they were made by american studios
It was not designed by the Japanese ergo only finished if that was the case
tv whinnie the pooh is a anime now
dora the explorer is korean drama
fricking hate this
>anime
>korean drama
Anime is not a genre anon
Is Batman TAS an anime?
Is the Animaniacs?
Both of those were animated in Korea
>NTA but Japanese animation
The japanese use anime to mean animation, not japanese animation. For the most part just avoid things that look ilike them come from california in tone and culture.
>The japanese use anime to mean animation, not japanese animation.
Oh yeah and what do they call JRPGs?
The term anime originated from Japan. The term JRPG did not, hope that clears up that moronic idea for you.
We should really kick these shows off of Cinemaphile. They don't respect western animation by calling themselves anime. why should we accept them as cartoons? go let them and their fans get destroyed by weebs invading their threads. i hate all western "anime" series.
Normies are more likely to watch an anime, than a cartoon now. It is what it is. Marketing.
sounds like a cope
there are many mutts-asiatic animation with no japanese involvement that are still labeled as anime these days
shouldn't you be angry about them more?
in the first place, shouldn't you claim that they should stop copying japanese?
Why should the Japanese have the sole claim to a broad art style? Don't tell me you're one of those "cultural appropriation" morons.
It IS anime because it IS shit.
>animated by science saru
>directed by head animator for the devilman crybaby op
>character designs by animation director of the little witch academia op 1&2
>color design by the dude who color designs all notable anime
>sound editor same as above
Explain how this isn't anime again.
G1 transformers was animated by the japanese so why is it an anime
likewise, most animes today arent even being animated by the japanese theyre being outsourced to the chines. for example isekai no ojisan was outsourced to china for animation, but they got covid and halted production. does that make the show a chinese cartoon. hell most american carttons are being thrown to the koreans to animate does that make the show we watch here korean cartoons
bottom line is an anime is a cartoon made for the entertainment of the japanese audience. cott pilgrim may have been animated by the japs but thats as far is it goes, because scott pilgrim the animation was made for the intent of being watched by a western audience
It's as anime as 90s moomin which is to say technically anime but not fully. It's still more anime than a lot of shit these days like avatar and castlevania.
Fun fact: In Japan anime is their word for cartoon. They make no distinction between east and west.
I honestly thought we were at the point where this shit was common knowledge but I guess not
Then why do they have different boards for anime and cartoons?
i can't imagine how fricking horrendous a cartoon and anime board would be.
It would be just like /ic/ were it was supposed to be for arts in general but its mostly used for anime slop
because 5ch has boards for fricking everything, no matter how quiet they end up being
there are boards with threads from the fricking 2000s
By that logic, Panty and Stocking isn't anime, either.
99% of the staff was Japanese you absolute frickwaffle
>absolutely no Japanese involvement
>Scott "heavy Japanese involvement" Pilgrim
>absolutely no Japanese involvement
>Scott Pilgrim Takes Off does in fact have Japanese involvement
what did OP meant by this?
It means OP is a baiting homosexual who wanted (You)s and has succeeded
They didn't actually make it canadian monogatari so it's not anime.
