Remember in ESB when Han being a shitty mechanic who can't fix the Falcon was played as a joke for the entire movie

wait Star Wars "fans" have never actually watched the OT

It was more that the falcon was so poorly maintained and built that han was constantly having to fix it

Means she disregarded the compressor, so now the falcon's energy output is uncompressed and thus much it's much faster and powerful

        Anonymous

Would likely be the opposite. A compressor increases the pressure to improve power

Uh, no, moron, if the power is compressed there's less power. If it's uncompressed it's limitless, meaning it will go as fast as the engines allow it. I'm an engineering student, I know my shit. Frick outta here

What do you think a water compressor or air compressor are doing? They compress the air/water so when you shoot it, it comes out much more forcefully

              Anonymous

It's basic semantics, dude. If it's compressed, it's weaker. If it's uncompressed, it's limitless therefore potentially stronger. Also you're not dealing with either air nor water in the vacuum of space. Internet discussion won

a compressor in a jet engine compresses air before it runs through the engine actually. probably in all kinds of other engines as well. it increases the power output because you are getting more air into the engine and faster

but the compressor is there for a reason, right? Wouldnt the ship like explode if there was more energy than its supposed to handle

          >After he stole the Millennium Falcon from the Irving Boys, Crolute junk boss Unkar Plutt installed a compressor on the ignition line. However, by the time the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca recovered the Falcon, the scavenger Rey bypassed a faulty compressor at the wienerpit, ceasing the ship's malfunction.
It was just some gizmo installing in the ignition

The moment Han Solo goes into the wienerpit, as he's stoked to be back on board, he immediately sees the compressor and says:
              >Han Solo: Hey! Some moof-milker put a compressor on the ignition line.
              >Rey: Unkar Plutt did. I thought it was a mistake, too. Puts too much...
              >Han Solo/Rey: ...stress on the hyperdrive.

I don't want to defend TFA but I think what they were going for is that she had seen it and been on it since that Junk Yard guy owned it now, and she was familiar with the weird modifications he had done including the compressor which she knew was shit. And Han hadn't been on it in a long time since he lost it in some deal.

that's exactly what it was. if I'm correct it was mentioned in the novelization version of the movie

Luke knew how to fly from flying a shitty little shuttle as a kid. From the beginning, if you know how to fly one ship you know how to fly them all, more or less.
As for fixing, she's a scavenger so she'd likely know her way around a ship, I guess. The real question is how she knew how to fly since she'd never done it before (otherwise she would have left the planet long ago).

She was a scrapper. Taking stuff apart might have helped her to understand how it's put together and how some of the stuff works.

Being able to fly like an ace when she was trapped her whole life on the surface was stupid though. At the time, I accepted she might be some mind-wiped assassin or something, but holy shit.

Ship exteriors are one thing, ship controls have standards for two armed sentients, four armed sentients, and some more advanced have a neural interface option, with a few bizarre uncommon setups here and there for random/unique species. Keep in mind that hyperspace travel has been a thing for thousands of years, there's been plenty of time to standardize. Especially on a commercially produced freighter like the Falcon.

Kek at the absolute cope answers you're getting. Imagine believing being raised for 18 years in a scrapyard would let you fly a 747 just because there were parts of a small private plane in the yard.

He's not David Lynch. JJ's a grifter and opportunist. The idea of mystery boxes is his weak storytelling not a discernable mystery with deep meaning picked up by the subconscious mind.

I wrote a 2000 character reply explaining why the writing was so shit but Cinemaphile ate it, frick you janny. Basically JJ fired the screen writer to write it himself because he wanted to recreate the original trilogy because he is an OT nostalgia moron. This resulted in a rushed script that was being written well into the middle of filming. OT fans are directly responsible for ruining star wars.
