Thats what I mean. Checking at the flop was correct. But you could at least get someone with pocket pairs to commit easier by the river

yeah... likely bet 4th low to lead someone on a draw and double it with confidence on the river. They tip in or they don't.
Matt Damon had a full house (triple and a pair, triple 10 and a pair of 6 in his case), this is an insanely strong hand in poker.
In the image, it was his turn, he could have raised, checkd or folded. Folding means giving up the hand, raising means increasing the bet and prompts all the other players that are still in the hand to either accept (call) the raise and pay or fold, checking simply passes the turn without doing anything. Damon checked and some people think that was a mistake because he supposedly should have raised since he had a nearly unbetable hand (the number% besides his name in the image is his chance to win the hand). He checked because he was afraid raising would make it obvious that he had a strong hand and everyone would simply fold and there is the chance that someone else with a decent hand might raise, in which case he'd simply call and win with his amazing hand. With his cards he knows the hand is won, he's just trying to play it cool in order to win a bigger pot.
The thing is that everyone in the table already knew he had an amazing hand when he saw the "flop" (the three opening cards in the table 10-10-6) because he couldn't contain his excitement and everyone could tell from a mile away that his hand was strong, which is ironic since he's an ACTOR. It's funny because he's an actor and supposedly should be good at playing it cool but he was hilariously bad at hiding his excitement.
He had a basically guaranteed winning hand on the flop, but despite being a fricking A list actor and checking which was a move with no positive outcome potential, his poker face was so bad that he alerted every other player at the table to his good hand and they folded.
Basically had a great hand, but failed to capitalize on it thanks to the most laughable poker acting ever recorded. He still won the pot, but noone was betting on their turns and his luck went to waste.
Basically had a great hand, but failed to capitalize on it thanks to the most laughable poker acting ever recorded. He still won the pot, but noone was betting on their turns and his luck went to waste.
Checking on a flop like that can be a good move if you can fool others into thinking your trying to strongarm them out of the pot thus them calling your continously growing bets with a shitty hand. But it's difficult to do and often people are just tired and will give up easily, but in those scenarios they might even fold to a small bet meaning you wouldn't even profit from that. You might want to avoid seeming strong on a flop with two tens if no one else seems to have got anything because they aren't going to get any help either.
if you don't understand Poker you will find it hard to understand. But essentially Poker is a game about bluffing Matt had a winning hand but instead of choreographing to the other players that his hand was strong by betting he was waiting for another player to place a bet so he could raise the bet. That didn't happen so he basically just threw away a good hand his tactic wasn't a bad one its one many players employee and is fairly easy to pull off. But with cards like were on the table(10,10,6) its fairly obvious someone has something whether it be a 2 pairs, 3 of a kind or in Matts case a full house. It was a combination of the other players not having jack shit and not playing aggressive enough to buff the rest of the table they have something and Matt being to passive to allow anyone to think he might have a strong hand.
why are all these newbies talking without watching the clip. he flops a boat and his eyes pop out of his head. he's supposed to be an actor and displayed the worst poker face you'll ever see. thats the joke. it's not that he checked, its that he checked after his jaw hit the table and everyone in the hand knew exactly what cards he had.
He's in the WSOP main event. He's got fricking Eric Seidel in the pot. People are super aggressive in this tournament so checking is absolutely the right play and that nobody took a stab at the pot until the river is just crazy.
why are all these newbies talking without watching the clip. he flops a boat and his eyes pop out of his head. he's supposed to be an actor and displayed the worst poker face you'll ever see. thats the joke. it's not that he checked, its that he checked after his jaw hit the table and everyone in the hand knew exactly what cards he had.

if you play like a pussy the entire game you can't suddenly start betting aggressively randomly or everyone will know you've got good cards and fold. the mistake he made was not on this hand, it was every hand before this where he backed himself into a corner for when he actually got good cards
Oh look, someone who actually plays Poker. Damon didn't do anything wrong but everyone knew he was a Nit so the only person who called had top pair and IIRC the guy with top pair folds against Damon on the river. That means Matt Damon sucks at poker and only bets with a good hand. If you know that then you can fold anything unless you have the nuts.
I always go all in if I have so much as a low tier pair, and I've registered a net positive from poker gains. It literally consists of always betting, since they won't know if your hand is ever good if you're always calling. Poker is literally the easiest game
the joke is that he tries to act and thinks he's his character from his shitty poker flick.
apart from that he plays perfectly normally. a bold move would have to bet on the flop, anyone with a high club card could have called. but that same guy could have bet on the flop so you never know. that's poker

Looks like nobody in this thread plays poker. Without knowing how preflop went, did everybody limp or was there a raise the decision to check may have been the correct one. If everybody limped and you flopped a boat and there was a flush draw on the board the correct decision is to raise for value on the flop. If there was a raise preflop and you are in early position then a check makes sense.
why are all these newbies talking without watching the clip. he flops a boat and his eyes pop out of his head. he's supposed to be an actor and displayed the worst poker face you'll ever see. thats the joke. it's not that he checked, its that he checked after his jaw hit the table and everyone in the hand knew exactly what cards he had.

It doesn't matter if your hand is strong, when the the other guys have shit cards then betting, no matter how small, would set off alarm bells with a flop like that.
Best thing he could do was check along with everyone else and rely on someone else making a move thinking they might get a free pot.
bullshit. You have to bet early though while the aces and suited cardholders still believe they have a draw. You can't go too heavy, but you have to seem like you are trying to buy it with like two pair.

It was a 5k event and Erik Seidel is a top pro, but I have no idea who the other dudes are. Damon has that board so locked up that it's impossible for anyone to have anything in a limped pot. Iirc correctly I think k9 turns mid pair and he gets 1 street of value but I haven't watched the clip in forever.

Damon has the board locked up, he doesn't need to bet. Slow playing this hand and checking is perfectly fine since he is out of position with 3 other players left to act behind him. By doing that he allowed the A8 hand (not the k9 like I originally thought) to turn a pair and get a little value. If he bets flop he likely folds out all 3 players behind him
