Just don't make her an iredeemable twist villain
Either have her be a villain upfront or have her redeemed via the power of friendship and understanding
Also, don't make her decades older
That's not necessary either. The movie doesn't need a clear villain at all. Just have the plot revolve around Ruby's high school and personal challenges.
I would keep Chelsea regardless
She's genuinely a lot of fun and had chemistry with Ruby before the last 15 minutes of the film
Preferably make her like she was in the early storyboard
Have her actually be the daughter of Narissa. Grandmamah doesn't approve of it, but she realizes the friendship makes Ruby happy so she begrudgingly accepts it. Hell, just have Ruby's family accept it. Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb type thing, but just with her grandma and not her direct family.
>but she realizes the friendship makes Ruby happy so she begrudgingly accepts it. Hell, just have Ruby's family accept it.
Repostan this from someone else because if it wasn't for the Nerissa twist this would've been perfect >ruby: *awkwardly* hey my family wants to meet. you really don't have to come >Chelsea with a smile: I'd love to come ruby >as they walk over ruby is really stressing out. They finally get to the door ruby is regretting this. >Chelsea:this is a nice house >ruby grabs the doorknob stops and turns to her friend >ruby: but you really don't have to come >Chelsea chuckles:ruby are you ashamed of me come on >Chelsea puts her hand over ruby's and twist the door open.she walks through the door > is abruptly met by a trident hitting the wall 5inches from her head >ruby awkwardly:hehe hi grandma *under her breath* oh my frickin God this'll be terrible >chelsea:this'll be great! *walks over to the giant kraken out stretches hand* hey grandma nice throw guess you're slipping with age. >ruby screams internally and this started the most awkward family dinner ever >Sam, who hasn't been taught about the war yet, breaks the silence and just abruptly says "Your friend's pretty hot Ruby"
A lot of these greentext remove Chelseas valley-girl/narcissistic vipe, but I think they give her a unique personality. Because despite talking so stereotypically alpha-bitchy, she was still a good hearted person in the movie(pre twist). And not even in a "deep down she is good" way, but in a "she doesn't mean it sarcastically, she really does think you would be pretty with a bit of makeup"
I was really surprised how well the movie wrote such a character(pre twist) and would like to see more of it in the fancontent
>Because despite talking so stereotypically alpha-bitchy, she was still a good hearted person in the movie(pre twist).
The film tries to suggest that it's a front to hide her own loneliness and as a way to accrue attention (kind of like how Po's attempts to look cool are meant to hide his self-loathing in the first film) but then the Nerissa twist happens and all that nuance is just gone
The thing with pre-twist Chelsea is that while she was an attention craving queen bee, she was never actually shown to be malicious the way you expect an alpha b***h to be
Honestly even storyboard Chelsea and pre-twist Chelsea are fairly different and they both have great chemistry with Ruby
what was the moral of this movie
Mothers and daughters should be fully honest with each other and not hide anything
You shouldn't hide what you are
Grandiose proposals of love are overrated
Listen to your grandparents when they talk about a certain race because even if the new kid just wants to be friends and saved your life, you should never trust them for being said race

Chelsea's shown to be a lot more open to doing amoral things around Ruby but still enjoys her company and wants her to have a good time
She comes across less like an alpha b***h/queen bee/valley girl and more like a delinquent

Also keep in mind this storyboard is old
Animator said in the original description (that you can find on his Instagram) that this was made one-two months in production and a few days after the Pandemic which should date around March 2020 given that was when DreamWorks was effected
If we were to ever get future content, I feel like Chelsea would have the Bender archetype being a shitty friend that means well, even if what they say comes out blunt and tone deaf, they still want what's best for you (and them). Doing that post twist would be a little hard to work with but you could always fall back on the trident corrupting her mind or her seeking revenge for her mama and handling it wrong or something.
I personally would have liked a villain of some sort to justify Ruby's kaiju form but it should have not been Chelsea, or at least the Chelsea we know. idk, there's so many sea monsters in folklore that you could have chosen something that's more of a straight villain and honestly more fun design wise too. Mermaids just don't seem worthy of having a giant battle mode to me.
There have been multiple suggestions to keep the fight and still have Chelsea stay a friend >She hands the trident to Nerissa who betrays her trust by not actually wanting peace >She's driven mad by the trident itself or possibly any souls within it (Nerissa's or souls of mermaids who sacrificed themselves to power the trident) >She fights Grandmamah in self-defense and thinks Ruby betrayed her >She betrays Ruby like she does in the film and reveals she wants to avenge her people and mother but clearly feels guilt over it and either accidentally harms Ruby who gets in the way or Ruby saves her after the trident's explosion knocks her out
I'm a fan of the last one, story progresses as normal, until Ruby shows up to the fight, and you learn Chelsea burying Ruby under rubble was just trying to incapacitate her so she wouldn't be forced to choose a side.
And it's so fricking unnecessary it doesn't even add anything to the story; it harms it; imagine the morons who wrote this when they see all the fanart the movie has is of a 1000 year old e-girl dragon and a teenage girl. Would they actually be not moronic enough to fix this? I'm also sure they didn't realise making her this old made her a groomer, since it's never explained in the movie. And it's so fricking unnecessary what is the purpose? She doesn't even really talk with Agatha
Dude we've been talking shit about this film for over a week but I can tell you're repeating the sam stuff
Stop worrying about "fixes", until a show is announced then you can start anticipating
t. Someone else hooked up on retcon copium
These threads are getting long in the tooth and there's like 2 other ones in existence on the catalog right now. We've kind of brought up all the necessary points on fixing the film. I'd like to see more Episode ideas or drawgay art if we're keeping this going but if not, Cinemaphile needs to give it a rest somewhat. Ruby's tired and needs a coffee break.
Fricking abominable is getting a TV series, they don't only count the money

got, you could watch it right now on Peawiener. But you have to understand. Ruby Gillman isn't a flop, it's a bomb. Dreamworks first ever, every other movie of theirs has made it's budget back. That's why the idea of a TV show for RGTK is not a guarantee.

I'll be amazed if they do. Dreamworks would truly be shameless.
Ignoring the atrocious design, and the fact we all wanted the yuri, I never got why he was supposed to be "the most popular kid at school". He does a kickflip on his skateboard and that's about it. I mean, he's going to one of the outcasts at school for math lessons, 10 Things I Hate About You did something similar, but at least it was more than the nerd lusting after the hottest girl in school, there was another much more popular guy. There's no popular girls pushing her down for dreaming big, there's no nothing, you literally only see him interacting with Ruby, why should I believe he's so high above Ruby her asking him out is a disaster?
Eh, Grandmamah isn't a grubhubian fan either so it's not like she'd want Connor. Grandmamah wants Ruby to find a nice kraken guy to settle with so that she can repopulate the kraryan bloodline.
God, maybe it's not just the writers that got wronged by that b***h Stacy.

I really wonder what truly happened to these girls. Because Chelsea doesn't seem bad at all, Rubys friends are far worse. First they ditch her, then they pressure her to lie to her mother and then they are hypocrites when Ruby starts ditching them.

We know why she is doing the things in the movie, to get revenge on Agatha and to a lesser extend Grandmamah, but we don't know why the mermaids waged war on the Krakens to begin with.
Considering the leader of the Krakens is a war hungry racist, I assume the initial reason was freedom from their tyranny. But by fighting the monsters they became monsters themselves
>saves the life of her daughter, which would've undeniably have destroyed Agatha beyond repair, the reason Ruby would've died is because she wasn't able to protect her. Kraken kingdom no longer has an heir .
It's so unbelievably moronic
there is still the brother, and Agantha could still make another child. But there is also the issue with time and pride. Sure, Chelsea is still young for a mermaid, but I learned from, well, life, that humans tend to not like waiting, even if they can allow it, thus waiting several decades for her enemies to die from old age is not something that is on Chelseas mind. Plus we know there are other sea monsters, thus getting the Trident to fight them off as well seems like a good plan.

I could totally see them egging each other on, trying to get the other to actually lash out so Ruby takes the victim's side first.

Impressive how literally nobody likes Connor
I suppose I could, but you'd really need to make him a character, because as is, I'd rather see him get Roxanne'd
Nope. The love interest was clearly Chelsea. And I'm someone who almost always hates homosexual shippings
Nah Connor is based
HATCHACHACHA
%3D
the only fix is to make her gay
Chelsea might already be a lesbian, it's Ruby the ones that's canonically straight as far as she knows
Chelsea uses her groomer powers to make Ruby gay; Grandma seethes as her grand-daughter is now a carpet muncher
Eh, Grandmamah isn't a grubhubian fan either so it's not like she'd want Connor. Grandmamah wants Ruby to find a nice kraken guy to settle with so that she can repopulate the kraryan bloodline.
It's probably why grandma banned her from mermaids. Because their lesboness rubs off.
You'd think Grandma would disown Ruby if she found her with a mermaid?
Not fully, but there'd be obvious favoritism for Sam at that point. She'd do everything in her power to make Chelsea feel unwelcomed.
The issue is it seems only female kraken can carry on the legacy of the royal bloodline. Grandmamah doesn't have much of a choice
>Grandmamah starts something akin to chrisposting, trying her damnedest to get Ruby to breed with kraken men.
Poor Grandmamah
How sore is her c**t right now
Ruby bought her 100%
🙁
This offended people I guess
