i didn't like it all that much. the middle drags, and the end is just spectacle for the sake of it.

I just recently watched this for the first time too believe or not, and I actually thought it lived up to the hype and then some. The movie is bleak as hell, Tony's lifestyle is so depressing it made me uncomfortable.

nice digits. i can understand why it's looked at so fondly, i think it's just not for me. i found the pacing kind of odd, i love the sound and music because i'm a sucker for 80s sound effects and music, but i find the ending kind of just... happens. i do love the bleakness, it's great how oppressive everything feels, especially since it's 80s miami.

The movie suffers major pacing issues and really tacky montages, but the overall tone is pretty grim. Could've used better editing.

i love 80s tackiness, it's fun. as someone that happens to be half-cuban, the ending text of "hello, cubans are not as depicted in this film, we love cubans!" had me laugh out loud. i don't know if cubans were looked down upon at all, or if there was any backlash or anything, i just found it really funny.

It's a poorly paced movie which is odd because De Palma is usually very skilled at pacing with his thrillers. But in Scarface some scenes just drag on for so long with minimal camera movement which is very uncharacteristic for him

It has god tier pacing, tf you morons talking about? One of the smoothest 3 hour long movies in history

kek nice joke. Scarface mogs scorsese. Succeeds at doing what he always claimed his movies did. A gangster movie that shows the appeal of the lifestyle but actually shows the downfall in a real way without shitty narration.

Scarface got it so wrong that everyone who watches the movie comes to see Tony Montana as a badass instead of a loser. At no point in Goodfellas does Henry Hill seem like a cool guy, he clearly just wants to LARP just like Tony but De Palma fricked it up

              >morons watched the movie therefore it’s bad
don’t go looking into comment sections of scorsese movies, especially the long take restaurant scene and jail dinner scene lmao

Tony isn’t a loser, he actually realizes it’s all bullshit. And goes out in a blaze of glory instead of a shit court scene with bad narration from a hungover Ray Liotta
              >yeah it sucks now I’m eating bad spaghetti lol but at least me irl got all this money for the rights to make the movie xD

I thought the pacing was really good, and I'm someone who can zone out quickly if something really starts dragging. Scarface didn't feel as long as the runtime.

The pacing issue is due to what is basically the assembly cut being released

The movie is great, the pacing I figured was just the sign of the times. It was or felt like a 70s/80s movie.
It deserves the cult status and unfortunately was used up by gangster rap nigs back in the day to the point the movie was played out.

It's a 70s movie that happened to come out in the 80s, that's why it's all depressing and also why it flopped at the time

Yeah Scorsese is hugely overrated and the only movies I like from him were written by other people

He had a few alright movies but you need to settle down.

First of all he has way more range than Scorsese, each film of his that you can argue as his best is in a completely different genre.
Second, if you want to just keep it to the gangster shit, The Untouchables, Carlito’s Way and Scarface >>>>>> Mean Streets, Goodfellas, and Casino

The only bad thing about the movie is the influence it had on basketball enthusiasts. It’s similar to the effect The Godfather had on spaghetti-Americans.

I think it would have been received better if it was released a year after Miami vice premiered instead of being released about a year before Miami vice came out.
