I don't get what this movie is about, the acting, direction, and art are great, but it goes from nowhere to nowhere, why do boomers praise a movie about nothing so much?

>it goes from nowhere to nowhere, why do boomers praise a movie about nothing so much?
exactly
ve care about nossing lebowzki
t. man missing his jhonshon
This and No Country are definitely growers. I didn’t like either one until I watched a second time
no country was great on first watch.
big lebowski however just depressed me the first time, took me a rewatch or two a a few years later to enjoy this movie.
only children need an exciting twist or moral at the end to be satisfied by a movie
>pseuds
This guy gets it. It’s a direct homage to the stories of Raymond Chandler, probably the archetypical detective novels filled with private eyes, quick dialogue, colorful characters, and a mystery that doesn’t really make sense but doesn’t matter. It’s about the ride not the mystery. The Big Sleep is the most famous adaptation of his and like the book you’d have to study it several times to actually make sense of the twists and turns but it still just works
>calls other people pseuds and proceeds to drop the most far fetched, pseudointelligent post in the entire thread
wasted quads
>replying to mass repliers
You called me a pseud and then said the exact same thing I did
>mass reply from someone more desperate for attention that n a fricking girl
Nice numbers, you're still a gay.
>Leeds?
>THEY GOT US WORKING IN SHIFTS
It’s a perfect movie.
But it is a nothingburger.
Exactly.
>I didn't like it because it didn't have a POINT
gas all plotgays
It’s a movie about trying to be comfy in an uncomfy world. Even the people who believe in nothing won’t leave you the frick alone.
>acting, direction and art are great
that is very rare. that alone sets this movie apart.
it's objectively pretty funny and has stayed funny for nearly 30 years. it's pretty much the only comedy from that era that is still watched and enjoyed, and say what you want about the benefits of a sensible plot, at least it has an ethos.
It's a parody on The Big Sleep. You were filtered, anon.
I seriously never considered this but it makes a lot of sense. Maybe because I wasn't that familiar with noir stories before watching it for the first time. Just took the movie on its face value of being an absurd comedy.
You weren't far off. It's absurd that a detective doesn't get shit and everything fixes itself. It's also comforting and a feel good movie to me thanks to that. Dumb shit happens, who cares, let's go bowling the end. Great analogy for life
Simple, because "We're gonna cut your dick off, Larry" is one of the funniest lines in cinema history. It also gave us this great pasta. Verification not required.
Is this your paycheck Janny? Is this your paycheck Janny?
>Look man, did you-
Anon, please. Is this your paycheck Janny?
>Just ask him if he- Ask him about the thread, man
Is this yours, Janny? Is this your paycheck Janny?
>Did you delete that thread off the front page?
Is this your paycheck Janny?
>We know it's his frickin' paycheck, Anon! Where's the frickin' dicky you little brat?!
Look, Janny. Have you ever heard of Sneedville?
>Oh for Christ's sake, Anon
You're entering a world of Bane, son. We know that this is your paycheck. We know you deleted the thread-
>And the frickin' dicky!
AND the frickin' dicky! AND - we know that this is your paycheck
>we're gonna cut your dick off, Janny
YOU'RE KILLING YOUR Cinemaphile, JANNY.
JANNY SWEETIE THE MAN IS HERE
The whole concept is it's a detective movie where the detective doesn't figure out anything, every "clue" he follows is bullshit and the problem fixes itself
It has a sleazy mexican erotically licking his bowling ball in slow motion.
the film is a meditation on life
It's a funny movie.
Funny, I got what this movie was about when I was 12 years old. Why are zoomers so fricking stupid?
It's funny.
It's good because it is serious and funny plus it covers so many (cultural) topics, like:
iraq/vietnam war, music, rich vs. poor, bowling, death, different livestyles, religion, social demands on the individual, drinking/drugs, fame etc.
If you can't enjoy a movie like the big Lebowski, it means you need to be told how to enjoy a film before you can enjoy it. Which doesnt make you a bad person, but it does make it difficult for people who don't have that requirement
I love it so much, but gotta admit it drags on the dream sequence and porn mansion
>it's an ironic mishmash crossover fish-out-of-water tale
it's not ironic, it's sincere
Donnie is the only sincere character.
>sincere
>"His name is Lebowski? That's your name, Dude!"
Donny was a condescending frickface
That's not condescending.
He thought The Dude was too dumb to understand that other people had the surname Lebowski
holy frick you're a fricking butthole
either for being too stupid to understand what happened or so fricking worthless to be pretending you didn't
dude this is like the opposite of that
>dude this is like the opposite of that
What are yu talking about`The Big Lebowski is a direct hommage to Chinatown and almost ends in a similiar way
the movie is sincere in its absurdity
Other movies that don't care about the plot?
mean streets, dazed and confused
The Long Goodbye and Inherent Vice
Coens are pretty committed to this theme, Barton Fink and Burn After Reading do the same thing
Richard Linklater's films.
How about a book?
Chinatown
because it's actually funny
It's a shaggy dog story.
It's a comedy. It wants to be funny through its characters and their interactions.
Best conhen's movie
I like the double meaning employed when Lebowski is told he shouldn't hold out hope for Credence.
>THE HECKIN BOOMERINOS
the movie is the big lebow$ki
