I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels guilty for falling out of interest with creators who I know can put out quality.
I don’t hate Harry or anything but I never thought any of his cartoons were entertaining, funny, or interesting.
Harry's always been a mixed bag for me because it feels like he wants to be edgy with his material but doesn't want to bite the bullet because he knows most people outside of here couldn't give less of a shit.

I can see why. The first episode didn't really grab me.
Pretty much, episode 1 was just so bleh, that most didn't bother with episode 2. Episode 2 was a bit better but my main problem is just i hate the MC. He is grating/annoying and his voice sucks, and the overall writing wise there's just not much there. It plays extremely safe and could air on tv, where as zeruel could've literally done anything instead else rating wise.
That's the thing with a passion project as we're also seeing with Starbarians. It is 100% what the creator wants, it's their vision but the consequence is that 90% of the time it's not gonna be something most other people are into.
It's better to have a BS normie/whatever friendly product you can fall back on to fund what your passion project is. Nowadays as an animator you could shit out some 10 second loop animation for tiktok or youtube shorts, get the kiddies then use whatever you get to make your true product.
Many such case with animators working on their own product. Zeurel is talented, but their main show attraction is such an absolute bore.
Me too, I only really have respect for the quality of his animations.

I get what you mean, you look at his cartoons and they seem to be well animated and designed but there's just no... flow to it? It just seems like it's forcing the story to go along and feels shallow.

My man needs to draw some explosions, slapstick, a man getting punched in the jaw so hard you feel the crackles, a bit of an intense standoff argument with dramatic angles and hired voice actors, just shaking things up a little

I think the biggest problem with Killgar, besides being very one-note is that he comes off as a Gary Stu, like Season 1 Brock Sampson turned up to 11. He can never lose, and he can never be the butt of a joke. I can laugh at characters like Cartman or Riley Freeman cause they're moronic kids, who get their shit pushed in from time to time. With Killgar, you can always tell how the joke's going to go which makes it progressively less funny.
ultimately the curse of being an internet animator i'd say. Takes too fricking long to put out what they want and by that point it's too late for a multitude of reasons already listed in this thread.
with time i care way less for the characters for the same reason. Since this is now technically a long running show he should've put more into making the characters actually likeable or at least worth tuning in for somehow, it's waay too one note.

Double edged sword. You get complete creative freedom (in so much as finding VA's who don't ghost you because of problematic content, speaking from personal experience), but no budget means you can only churn out one ep per year.

To make a show commercially viable (read: possible to produce in a limited timeframe), this is what most production companies have to do on a regular basis. It usually goes from pitch to animatic, but often the pilot is a different artstyle as well. See Hazbin for an indie example and any cartoon network pitched show for a mainstream one, it's genuinely interesting to look at what shows will refine to make an artstyle look more marketable
That's definitely tragic. He had his time in the sun but it was completely squandered. I think the closest thing Harry's had to true growth were the collabs with Dan Bull and rifftrax.

Honestly, youtube as an animator really isn't all that viable in terms of $. Even the meat horror guy had to go the fan funding route because of how much stuff kept getting demonetized for obscure unexplained reasons. I have a now dead youtube channel with 300k+ subs that lost its adsense for unexplained reasons (albeit i can use it to advertise my future stuff at least), and focusing on making a game i can sell instead. That's where my animation talent should've been going all along.
HappyHarry's a great animator, but he needs a writer/director.
