I don't like this film and people that pretend they do

Lynch could film a bowl of soup for 2 hours and people would say it is profound and meaningful

Oh yes dear boy *huffs fart* I must say I agree! Just look at the artistry of depicting fear of fatherhood by putting a little woman with paper mache cheeks inside a radiator! Stupendous! *sniffs flatulence*

The height of his popularity was TP season 1 when one took him seriously, instead realizing he was a meme who was only notable for being weird. Taking him seriously as a film maker is a very modern and reddit thing. Funny how you thought you were being clever, but only proved yourself a fool once again. Many such cases among redditors.

If you were born in the early 90s, I feel bad for you.

            you sound like a moron

            You write like a groid.

The elephant man was nominated for 8 academy awards in 1980. What does "being taken seriously as a filmmaker" mean to you?

Academy awards aren't an indication of quality and the fact that you think they are shows how much you need to mature.

Obviously not a guarantee of quality, but there's definitely a correlation--which you haven't refuted at all--so I don't know how *I'm* the immature one when you're talking out of your ass.

Who do you think is a "serious filmmaker"? Odds are, they've praised his work.

The best part is that lynch has specifically said multiple times that there is no meaning behind the movie, its just style over substance, but pretentious homosexuals keep reading into it

      Anonymous

You don't know what you're talking about. There is a whole universe of middle ground between Sherlock Holmes autist putting together a hyper literal puzzle and totally incoherent pure abstract expressionism. There is very clearly identifiable themes and a narrative throughline, filling in the gaps and your emotive reaction to the imagery, not all of which has meaning, is where personal interpretation comes in but there is no denying the paternal anxiety basis, it's not just noise and random images
