I don't think current generations can quite comprehend the impact Raditz had on the millenials. His appearance sent shockwaves through the playgrounds all around the globe. We were never the same men after Goku's sacrifice.

I never knew anyone who watched Dragonball when I was a kid. It started with Z for us.
Yeah OP is bullshitting to try to sound old, pathetic thread
ame*ican hands wrote these posts
I'm English and a millennial, and I agree with them. Dragon Ball Z was a thing we watched on (I think) Cartoon Network, but Dragon Ball wasn't.
Dragon ball aired after DBZ in the West technically
You're completely wrong, technically.
I lived in the uk, had toonami, cartoon network and the like, and never saw an epsiode of the OG dragonball on any of those channels. Z was on all the time though
I still rate him high on the villains list. That being said, I'm also glad they never brought him back aside from flashbacks.
DBZ characters who die need to remain dead or have at most a single resurrection.
I'm a zillenial and I watched the OG Dragon Ball on tv as a kid. Z came after.
he was in like 2 episodes but still more intimidating than bejita ever was, imo
He's on a lower rank than Bejita albeit
Majin Vegeta is up there. But yeah Raditz was nasty.
>Eternal anglo
As always. Continental Europe got the OG before DBZ.
>american zoomer pretending to be a japanese gen xer.
god these larps are getting gayer and gayer
I'm a Hispanic and I was a teen in the 90's, I only knew a single guy who was into DB before Z aired.
Fricking obsessed. Have sex.
And if anyone even watched dragonball, it was only up to the episode where Goku was about to change into a great ape. That's the farthest the original english dub went.
Most people just knew the Harmony Gold VHS tape
>most people knew some obscure video rather than the internationally broadcasted Funimation dub
Anon, I...
You have no idea of what I am talking about
DB had a pre FUNi dub following
Now go read an ANN article about how no one knew about Lupin III in the 90s even though Cornette cosplayed as him in the 80s
>schizobabble
My cousin and his friend had it on cassette tape.
ran in german television all the time
t. born in 1993
In LOTS of places it aired on television. Idk wtf is going on in this thread.
dragonball ran on european tv before z. it, sailor moon and kickers were hugely popular.
Where I was at it was all about the mangas. Everyone had them. Might just be a local thing.
Yea toonami was weird. They didn't air dragonball until well after Z finished
Dragonball was airing on other networks years before DBZ hit Toonami
yeah the massive popularity started around '98 or '99 and it all started with raditz and then obviously vegeta/nappa. that's why EVERYONE was watching by the time of the frieza saga on namek
remember many non-nerd kids discussing the goku vs. frieza finale
and already by the cell saga hype had died down a little bit
The west got like 8 translated episodes of Dragon Ball which were right at the start before DBZ aired. Nobody knew who anybody in Z was.
OP is a gay.
>Nobody knew who anybody in Z was.
nobody cared either and watched it anyways since it was easy to differentiate the heroes from the baddies
Bejita is very popular in the west because he was basically the franchises first endgame boss in the western and him eventually transferring to the good guys side was iconic
>US got like 8 translated episodes of Dragon Ball
FIFY.
Dragon Ball, not Z, aired on Toonami around 2001. Die morons.
And Z was airing before that, moron
>t. Actual American millenial
I had dragon ball manga in 1997
Found the Merimutt
I said it before, ill say it again. Dragonball is better than DBZ. and if you watch DBZ, the real show ended with the freeza arc.
There are 7 different boards for discussing anime and this isn't one of them.
And there's dozens of other threads you can shitpost in, instead of getting upset that you willingly entered a thread you knew you wouldn't like.
have a nice day jannie wannabe
Dragonball Z is honorary western.
You outted yourself as a newbie
Vegeta should have died and Raditz should have had all Vegeta's post-Saiyan arc plot. It would make more sense why he would hang around Goku seeing as they're related and all.
Why would Goku wish Raditz back to life? Plus, he’d be too far behind the other characters in strength.
Vegeta surviving the Saiyan arc in the first place was a massive asspule anyway, Toriyama could have found a way to bring Raditz back. Maybe Frieza's goons found Raditz's body and revived him with one of those chambers, it's not any more nonsensical than DBZ usually is.
DB does mostly have established death rules, the 1 year mark for resurrection is also because that's around where souls reincarnate, the frieza force machines can't resurrect and even then, Raditz was a nobody.
They brought back Frieza after so many years.
Because Freeza got special treatment in Hell AND because they used DB to bring him back to life.
Super is fanfiction with numerous contradictions to what came before.
they can still do it man
He was SO near death that his recovery in the pod took all this time, and so the zenkai boost he gets is that much more ridiculous. jumps straight to super saiyan 10 or whatever they're on now
Why, Goku was weaker and less gifted than Radditz, so Radditz could have kept up no problem... And it's a fictional story you dumbass. Nothing stopped the turtle heremit becoming relevant again even though he had a fraction of Radditz powers
Yeah, then Bulma would've got with him instead, not!Trunks would've been Goten's cousin, and Bardock would be happy that both his sons were brought together again. Only downside is Raditz was so much weaker than Vegeta and probably wouldn't have been able to keep up with the increasing power-levels, as it's implied Goku is special and Vegeta only keeps up with him through sheer royal Saiyan pride. Raditz would've been sort of Piccolo-level at best, and Tien-level at worst.
Let Raditz keep his tail and do something more with that.
I'm also just here to say that them wrapping their tail around their waist so it's like a belt (so you don't have to animate it) was kino.
Its funny how initially Vegeta is supposed to be the one born gifted and Goku is the hard working underdog, yet after Frieza its the complete opposite. Vegeta works his ass off training for everything he gets while Goku plays with King Kai and gets SSJ3 offscreen
Goku went from being weaker than Raditz to being able to overpower Vegeta just through one year of training with KK. Goin is the MC so he’ll always be stronger than Vegeta. That’s really the only reason. Am I really supposed to believe that Goku’s training methods are that much superior to Vegeta’s which allows him to always be ahead despite Vegeta having a huge head start? Goku clearly has special genes. Shit, Vegeta’s whole speech at the end of Buu is basically him going, "you’re the MC, I’ll never be able to keep up".
Goku worked smarter in addition to harder. There's limits to just going in full force like Vegeta was. Goku was actually studying his transformations and how to apply them.
I don't know what you're talking about. After Frieza, Goku...
>got trained by aliens
>trained in the afterlife
>trained in the time chamber
>introduces power levels
This isn’t a good thing.
Kakarot is a good character wtf are you talking about anon
Raditz is living fricking proof that Goku's father's wife (or was it wives?) that birthed Goku AND Raditz... was a Vegeta. Inbreeding powerlevel debuff. It's the only answer. Who's Nappa?
Further explained: Raditz is a bastard child of some random Vegeta. One of the 4 great Saiyan families. Well... those that survived the first Saiyan power struggle.
Ocean dub was kino

Dragon Ball Z gave me boners when I was a little kid. Had to hide them with a pillow as I watched it on the sofa in the living room after school or at my grandma's house. Had posters like pic related of DBZ and Street Fighter along with movies I liked as a kid (ID4, Twister, Dante's Peak, Volcano, Titanic, Deep Impact, Goldeneye, Gladiator, Aliens, fricking hell I had a lot of posters...
Anyway, my sister would make fun of me for becoming wapanese to the point I got into martial arts and started working out when I was 8/9 (4th grade, right before 9/11 happened.)
Turned out I was just a gay though. I mean would isn't turned on by big blond muscular dudes?
You guys remember when tien and goku where equals?
>equals
goku was 12 though
Goku was 15 in that particular arc. Yes, I know, it doesn't make sense.
All of Goku’s rivals end up being his friends and know they can’t surpass him
>First it was Krillin, then Tien, Piccolo, and Vegeta
They literally never were. Even in their very first tournament fight Tenshinhan could only manage to win by a technicality.
>it's a Dragon Ball "fan" blatantly makes shit up episode
Because we're not fricking Mexicans
Power levels is a bad thing. Please show how powerful the characters are instead of some autist reading their coom levels, tbh.
Power levels don’t matter though, they’re shown to be unreliable the moment they’re introduced. Look at the scene of its over 8000/9000. The number itself doesn’t matter, all that matters in the scene is that Goku is now strong enough to make Nappa and Vegeta scared
There is no example of someone with a lower power level defeating someone with a higher one.
Goku vs vegeta
Goku vs kid buu
>Goku vs vegeta
Goku lost.
>Goku vs kid buu
It is well established that certain energy attacks have a higher power level than the guy using them.
Its team fight and vegeta didnt win either
Sprit bomb isnt gokus power
The spirit bomb is pure haxx0r
Goku(or piccolo if you want to get technical) vs raditz.
>Piccolo won as soon as he had the bigger number
Not helping your case here.
Not my case, just pointing it out.
When power levels got so high they could break scouters it was over
When it got to where fighters could hide their true power levels from those that can detect ki it was super over
>Power levels is a bad thing.
Did you missed the part when they were said to be stupid in the very same arc they were introduced ?
i dont know who the frick is supposed to be goku and who is supposed to be vegeta, everyone looks the fricking same in this anime i've always hated it
>these two characters look the same
Lol what a moron
YES look at their faces, the only difference is the armor
Why lie on Chinese cartoon message board
You know this is a sign of autism right?
well i wouldnt be suprised to be honest
As has been commented, OP's post does not apply to North America, so HERE is the biggest shock from Dragon Ball Z
How come after deatting Raditz he never shows up in the afterlife or gets revived?
Toriyama probably forgot about him.
Because Toriyama is a shit writer. It would have been better if he was brought back and redeemed rather than Vegeta. Showing Radditz being slowly face-turned by interacting with his earth family makes more sense than putting up with the whiney 'prince of saiyans'.
I didn't know raditz had fanboys.
Because he was naturally stronger than goku.
And having the same ultimate potential with all the super saiyan crap they bloated the show with king yemna keeps him stashed away in secret in case he needs to take goku down.
its literally cartoons
I don't think you quite comprehend that nobody beyond the third world ever watched this.
you were just a moronic kid with no friends, everybody watched it
Is that why it became a world wide phenomenon? Is that why Toriyama unretired the franchise? He just couldn't let favela monkeys down?
Americans didn’t grow up with the original DB so his impact wasn’t the same.
Yeah seriously, most people in America watched DBZ first. Goku is just some random dude you were introduced 4 episodes in, His death only this if you watched his original journey. OG dragon ball only became a hit to Americans after Z. It’s weird
Another brainlet zoomer
99% of western kids started watching DragonBall Z during the Namek saga because it was repeated endlessly as the original dub publishers Saban only dubbed the show up until that point and it wasn't until 3 years later that FUNimation picked it up and finished the whole thing.
In Budokai 2 he get's hit on the head and forgets his villain tendencies, joins the Z Fighters and it's absolute fricking kino.
really? I don't remember that. I remember those fusions and buu forms tho
Say it
Thanks for killing me and then saving my life Doc
thanks doc
>piccolo gets a powerup and becomes stronger than goku
>goku gets an even more busted powerup 10 minutes later
it's so tiresome doc
at least he'll always be the coolest
He's wasted as Goku's brother
Reminder to dubgays
>30+ year old jacked man doesn't sound like an asian grandma
I can live with that
You are paying the hospital bill for my split sides anon.
DBZ dub is superior to the original, and has way better music
Americans are demented, and blinded by nostalgia
That may be true but the point stands.
That you people have shit taste and cannot consider anything beyond your own nose?
90% of the people in the world that watched their own dub for DBZ never claim theirs is better than the original, or dare to claim the OST is bad, only Americans.
Grandma Goku isn't going to frick you, dattebayo
Falconer isn't going to suck your dick
i uh fell compelled to call her mommy, what are these feelings im feeling?
Dont hate the players, hate the game.
It's not true. The dub is just superior with or without nostalgia.
t. euro
Didnt you limey gays got the westwood dub.
I never heard something play the same 2 bgm songs over and over before as much as it did during the cell saga part.
> 1996
> 6:30 am
> rock the dragon starts playing
> gets to the end and all the characters are standing there
> who the frick are all these other guys with blonde hair in the OP
Gud tymes.
>people tell me to try DBZ in the original nippon voices because its supposed to be the best version
>Goku literally has the voice of a grandma
If you memeing morons wouldn't know who the original VA is this meme wouldn't exist.
>Goku gets pissed Kaio wants to send him back to Earth away from Freeza
>Nozawa pulls an actual performance and conveys his anger and emotions, due to her talent and the fact that the TOEI animation director is right there to direct her
>Schemmel reads lines of a script because it's a dumb anime for kids and he couldn't get a real job at Hollywood, script is mostly made up and barely follows the original with barely any input from the people who actually made the show
It's that simple. Nozawa could be a 200 year old turtle for all I care, she outperforms Schemmel every single scene. Not that an EOP would understand.
then there is the latinGOD dub that has the best version of goku
BR here, how is the script? Portuguese has several mistakes such as getting Freeza's power level wrong. (he says 54k instead of 540k).
as far as I know it's pretty good, there aren't any terrible mistakes because they translated it directly from the original japanese instead of using an english translation
That's what the BR dub did and they still made some mistakes.
>asian grandma is best voice actor for masculine magic UFC character
No you fricking weeb you just have moron autism
Stick to your steven universe calarts cartoons with your rotating cast of voice over "actors", shit eater.
>dubtards never got to experience this scene in all its glory
Lmao don't tell me they replace the great song that plays with some shitty synth rock track or something
> not the Tourettes guy version
Fail.
Upon further review i can see the tourettes guy ones dont exist no mo.
I hate this nu gay internet.
Original > TFS > dubs >>>>>>>>>>>>>> amerigolem dub
Oh go fricking tongue TFS' butthole, why don't you. Fricking Abridged shit was always Channel Awesome/Nostalgia Critic tier humor, and when they got so far up their ass even thinking that their shit was better than the dub that's when they lost the plot. Glad everyone rhat supported those homosexuals got scammed out of a year of patreon money think they were ever gonna finish DBZ.
Lmao I could not give a shit about your telenovela drama moron
The american dub is shit and the TFS dub is funny, that's all there is to it.
>that's all there is to it.
At least we can agree on that, we don't need more of your shit-tier tastes and opinions.
Good on you for conceding to the dub being shit, proud of you
They should have a special movie where Goku has to go to hell for x reason and he bumps into Raditz there. Also should have him be a relatively chill dude whose mellowed out after getting humbled constantly in the afterlife. Give him some kind of transformation to do with ape form
Not every kid started with the Saiyan saga. DBZ only got really popular with Frieza and WoM. As a kid you jumped in during the middle of a story arc and had to piece together what happened until your network started the series over again.
The toonami gen got started during the frieza saga because thats where the funidub started before they went thru and did over the ocean episodes.
Also that’s when Cartoon Network started a huge marketing push after they were convinced American boys would accept a serialized Japanese show.
>after they were convinced American boys would accept a serialized Japanese show
DBZ debuted YEARS after US networks had fully embraced anime. It was cheaper to buy anime than to produce shows in the US
Not quite, syndication started in 97, hit full swing when Toonami got it in 98 or so. Pokemon didn't get aired until late 98, between the two is what really started the anime boom on kids TV. There were other dubs (Tekkaman Blade, Samurai troopers/ronin warriors, a few others) on kids TV but before those two only Sailor moon got decent traction before then in the 90s, at least. Otherwise it'd be stuff like cartoon Network airing robot carnival once at 12 am
Years before all of that was G-Force, Voltron, Robotech, etc which where lifted from anime. It was already WELL established that US audiences loved anime. They just had a difficult time getting access to some of it.
Maybe you guys just didn't have the right channels but DB was airing regularly well before DBZ came to toonami. Also anons saying that DBZ started airing during the Frieza/Namek saga is pure BS. I think a lot of you guys are just remembering when you** started watching it and then acting like that dictates history for everyone
The 80's shows were popular, but the boom wasn't really as big as the late 90's ones.
Dragon Ball only had like 13 episodes dubbed back in 95 and only aired on slots with low ratings. The full dub didn't get aired until well into Dragon ball Z airing on Toonami.
>The toonami gen got started during the frieza saga
that's not true. Why are there so many larpers itt?
Tell me why thats not true.
His segment of the show holds up well and he has an intimidating design.
For me, it's the dub and the DBZCCG.
Cinemaphile really is full of brown people, isn't it?
Yeah, Americans are a plague
Raditz was just a prototype Vegeta, no one gives a shit about him
We give a shit about him.
He one of us.
>people that watched the localization dub tries to discuss the anime with me
>right in the middle of the Frieza saga
>expecting new episode
>the series starts over because thats as far as they dubbed
>6 months later it makes it back the to same episode
>holy shit, new DBZ episode tomorrow!
>series restarts AGAIN
>6 months later it finally continues because they air the next set of episodes they dubbed
Yeah this was painful. People were waiting for Goku to finally arrive on Namek like it was the second coming of Jesus
>We were never the same men after Goku's sacrifice.
homie like 92% didn't even know who the frick Goku was. They just cheered because he got his kid took and had to team up with a indian african alien slug man who lost his fricking arm in the middle of the fight. If DBZ were allowed to show blood on top of the WWF-level trash talking that was in the dub we as kids would've been even more over the fricking moon.
