          >I've been following these threads from the beginning
That's obviously a lie because the synopsis has been posted several times. And anytime we actually get discussion going on how exactly the confrontation between Avery and Darren will go.
          >Avery Silman was once an entry-level hero known as Isom in the city of Florespark, Texas shortly after gaining his special abilities. A certain event had him hang up his suit, and now he stays on the outskirts of the city, living as a rancher.

          >Avery’s sister, Altona, gives him a call and wants him to visit an old friend by the name of Darren Fontaino. Another family friend that was interning with Altona has gone missing and she last heard that she was dealing with Darren. But Darren has much changed since he was hanging out with Avery when they were young. He’s a cold-blooded shot-caller and one of the most feared men in the city.

          >This visit turns into one of the longest days in Avery’s life. Around these parts, people call ‘special beings’ Excepts. And unfortunately for Avery, he has the luxury of running into some of them. The Alphacore and Yaira have their own set of conflicts. A man built like a tank by the name of Santwan reappears and he’s had previous confrontation with Avery.
My theory is that Darren will have gone full cold-blooded corpo rather than just running a gang.

Who the frick wrote that moronic-ass blurb? Is that the official synopsis? I assume so, because we're being given a bunch of names, but then it just drops shit like "Alphacore" like I'm supposed to know who or what that is. How about:

            >When superhero Isom (Avery Silman) swapped the mean streets of Florespark for a peaceful farm in Texas, he hoped his dark past would stay buried. Now, years later, Avery finds his retirement interrupted when an unsolved missing persons case leads back to his old friend, Darren Fontaino. Forced to return to the city he abandoned and branded an 'Except' by those who once called him a hero, Isom must face off against the monstrous Santwan, thwart the mysterious group known only as "Alphacore", and learn that the past doesn't stay buried for long...

I don't fricking know, I've been following these threads from the beginning and I still don't understand what the Rippaverse is or the characters and stories that unfold within it. Everything has just been backslaps and Twitter hashtags

Rippa is Eric July's youtube nickname. Rippaverse is his company / comic universe named after that. The actual comic doesn't make and references to "Rippa".
The main character's name is Isom. Eric has kept details close to the vest intentionally, so we don't know what his superpowers are, or much about his personality. People that are buying the book are followers of his that have given him the benefit of the doubt for this first book. Basically he built a following and is capitalizing on that now.
All we know is that Isom is a former super hero that left the life behind to become a rancher. We can assume that he's middle aged and that he'd prefer a quiet life to hero work. His sister called him to investigate the disappearance of one of her interns, who has gotten involved with his former acquaintance who now runs a gang. The book's plot revolves around this investigation and his run-ins with other people with superpowers during the course of the investigation.

He mentioned yesterday that his artist is already making panels for the second book. One of his funding stretch goals was to have 2 more books by the end of the year. We can only take him at his word at this point that he'll make that happen. To be fair, he originally estimated that this book #1 would come out in April, so we'll see if he can crank out the next 2 on time now that he has the infrastructure in place.

Image Comics had it's success , but the Image Universe did not catch on. Spawn is their main character that comic fans know about.

      Anonymous

He's planning on a shared universe with no multiverses (One of Eric's biggest complaints about Marvel is the multiverse). He'll be focusing on Isom for a while and will eventually launch other series. Apparently he has a roadmap that he's keeping secret.

      But why Rippa? What's Rippa?
Also if it's the company and universe name, then why does the wikipedia page in the OP list it alongside series?

Rippa is just his youtube name and basically his brand identity. It's just a name he picked when he was 15 and it stuck.

      Anonymous

If the connected universe thing is going to work, his company will need to write stories set in the past or the future, if he sets his stories during our current timeline, the stories will most likely become disjointed

        Anonymous

He's said that the stories won't necessarily be chronological. The launching mainline series probably will be, but he wants offshoots.

          Anonymous

I have no real problem with changes in timeline. I expect science fiction to remain fiction. When Batman /Detective Comics reaches it's 100th year anniversary I want Batman to still remain in his mid 30's and 40's.

            Anonymous

Doesn't bother me either. Batman is timeless. Sure we can have Batman Beyond and stuff, but whether it's a period piece or modern city, there's room for that.
However, Eric's personal pet peeves are multiverses and a lack of a comprehensive timeline. This is a passion project that he's wanted to do since he was a kid, so he's gonna do it his way. One timeline, no reboots, that kind of thing.

              Anonymous

Honestly the more I hear about the more I think this is intended to be a limited miniseries rather than a long term franchise.
And that's totally cool, there are tons of miniseries I love. But having a tight continuity without retcons isn't much of an accomplishment for those.

                Anonymous

I mean who knows how things are gonna pan out over the next year, but his dream is a comprehensive universe. It's looking like he wants Isom to be the flagship character and start by spinning off others that make appearances there. He has a roadmap that he hasn't shared.
I'm expecting there to be a massive drop-off in interest after the first 2 or 3 issues, but the obscene amount of money made on this first one could be enough to keep things fueled for a while, provided he continues to break even on future releases.

              Anonymous

The multiverse problem came about because comic book character who never age have the problem of syncing with the time we live in currently. is ISOM or any of these other Rippaverse character going to age with us 20 years from now? Will there be an ISOM dog that catches on as a fad and later fans will come to hate and will need to be erased? Let's not forget one of the best TV episodes of Star Trek was that alternate universe episode.

Hell, if Isom is around in 20 years that would be a nice problem to have. If Eric takes lessons from long running manga, he'll have to age over time. The character is already starting off middle aged, so they can go a good 5-10 years without really acknowledging that he's aging.

Marvel did address some of their aging characters problems by freezing Captain America in ice and giving Nick Fury the infinity formula. But when Spider-Man hit to the big screens, the married 38 year old Comic Book Spider-Man had to be reverted to a High School Student. If Rippaverse hit's the big screen, something will have to be compromised if he wants to make the serious $.

Does the comic do anything particularly redpilled to be garnering all that attention, or is it just the creator?
