It's been going downhill since the handover where all authorities exist solely to extract whatever they can for the CCP and shit things up for Hong Kongers. It went past the point of no return some time during the last 10 years.
It used to be an awesome place, a pretty good balance between western and eastern culture and politics, as in Hong Kongers in general say their opinions freely like westerners, but unlike libtards, they hate PC shit. Now everyone who can leave has left, not to mention the CCP has saturated the population with mainlanders.
The city had a unique look with lots of fun things to do. The government has taken that away too, from things like "regulating" how signs should look to suppressing smaller vendors. They are doing a great job at making it just another chink city with absolutely nothing special about it and only exists for mainlanders to shop and shit up.
The city is just shit now on all levels, like with the entertainment industry. 80s/90s HK had some of the best entertainment outputs, which of course got smothered after the handover. Now there's absolutely nothing for anyone who wants to do anything, as in every one is just there to be a wagie, if you want even a little bit of ANYTHING other than that, you might as well jump off a cliff.
There's a lot more to it than that, like how the police is actively doing shit to make Hong Kongers lives miserable and be pro mainlanders (because a large portion of them are mainlanders), but this has been a long enough post.
Basically, on all levels, everything good and special is fricked beyond belief and there's nothing anyone can do about it. There was a sliver a hope years ago where maybe other countries could frick China up enough for the CCP to stop fricking us so hard, but look at where we're at now. WW3 can't come soon enough,
