As everyone's said, it was killing Gert so that we could return to the exact same status quo as the original story.
Say what you want about I Hate Fairyland's writing, but at least the sequel was doing something new. You had new characters that were sticking around; the rat and the goat man and Mark Zuckerberg, you had a new (admittedly generic) plot with a lot of potential to it that looked like it was building up to something or a neat twist, you even had a new Gert that was a little bit more restrained and understanding who looked like she was going make that little extra push towards becoming a normal person. And then you just...get rid of all of that, to give us more of what we already saw. And now it just like, what's the point in reading? We've already seen this. Although I am a little biased, because I think the original IHF had the perfect ending and this sequel ruined it.
Exactly, we will never get a scene where the Gert we grew attached to, now as an adult and the Cloudia that openly hates her for ruining her life meet again.

So Gert struggles to adapt to life back on Earth after waking up in a thirty-year old's body with no skills, no ID and no money. After getting into a barfight, she's approached by Mark Zuckerburg, an eccentric billionaire who explains that his son was kidnapped into Fairyland a year ago and hasn't returned, and due to plot contrivance, Gert is the only one able to return to Fairyland to rescue him. Mark explains that he doesn't need her to rescue his son, per say, but his computer watch which contains information that will let him build a proper portal to Fairyland, which he intends to turn into an amusement park. Gert agrees for 50% of the profits from the park.
He then sends her living body to Hell, which her guide explains is linked to Fairyland. She wanders through Hell for a couple of years, making friends and enemies, before arriving back in Fairyland. Mark then informs her that his son returned years ago and that the amusement park idea is canceled; essentially trapping Gert back in Fairyland.
Gert meets back up with Larry and the child that he is guiding through the land, who agrees to let her leave at the same time that he does. So Gert helps him complete his entire journey through Fairyland (in the span of about three pages) and is about to return to Earth when she is approached by the child version of herself.
As it turns out, Cloudia's brother, the newest ruler of Fairyland, used time magic to bring several past versions of Gert into the present; promising each of them a way out of Fairyland if they kill Adult Gert. All the versions of Gert fight, and then child Gert from the original series decapitates Adult Gert. Child Gert pushes Larry's kid through the exit and is then told that, because she didn't enter at the same time as him, she's still trapped in Fairyland.
The rest of the series is then Child Gert wandering around Fairyland looking for a way out, just like in the original.
Not really, Skottie just want to his comic get more fame and make an animated series to gets money, and now I realize, I don't think he want to keep going with the comic, maybe he just want a reason to use the ideas he had planned for the original comic, but just realize they don't fit at all and that's why he killed Gert... or probably not, maybe is just about money, yes that's must be

The last issue came out after a four month delay and it was a bunch of gory slapstick and "Taylor Swift farts" jokes, definitely feels like someone who ran out of ideas and has no idea where he's supposed to take this now. Maybe he should just do a soft reboot like Rat Queens did when Wiebe began an arc, realized he had no idea how to finish it, so he just abandoned it and started a new volume. Either that or just end it again.

Imagine if instead Adult Gert escaped with the Kid and NuGert got stuck in Fairyland, then used 4th wall break shenanigans to become the focus of the story, it would still have the stupid "Clone/time displaced character replaces main character" Comic Trope, but at least Skottie could do something with Cloudia returning and meeting the Gert that ruined her life when she travels to the real world.

They had an entire full issue dedicated to nothing else but that. It turned out to be imaginary sex because she was drugged by some giant monster, but basically she was dreaming about getting fricked by some hunk in every position for several pages non stop. I think they were also two page spreads.
The monster died from this because Gert had such horrible body odor, and the river she bathed in ended up contaminated and poisonous.
You know what worst, fact Now Adult Gert dies, and knowing the gertlings are going to fairyland means aside of Loveth Lovelord (the freak of the maze) the meat Pinocchio is the other perv Who gonna be after Gert
