Hobie isn't really ugly imo. His hair is just weird.
Honestly say what you will about Spiderverse but their black characters look pretty good compared to other animated movies. I'd breed black Jessica Drew
Top right and bottom right aren't ugly though
the right column all look completely fine (middle is a little ugly but nothing outside of usual 3D character model)
>the most ugly one there doesn't belong
Here's the (You) that you were denied for so long.
That was the point. When the gas prises started to rise in the 2000s the goto defense was "still cheaper than a gallon of milk" as if people are going through 5-10 gallons of milk a week.
Hobie isn't really ugly imo. His hair is just weird.
Honestly say what you will about Spiderverse but their black characters look pretty good compared to other animated movies. I'd breed black Jessica Drew
Then stop watching that amazingly small amount of pictures and watch literally anything else. I think you can only blame yourself for choosing to watch that.
Not all criticism is worthwhile criticism. If you’re just pointing at fairly normal looking black cartoon people going “UGLY UGLY UGGO UGLY”, you’re better off not watching.
>amazingly small amount of pictures
Everything new in the West has succumbed to this cancer. It's more accurate to say 'just watch older media' or 'watch anime'.
NTA but I think you're right. The Strange World kid's concept art looked pretty alright even with his puff face but in 3D it's horrendous and the main turn off of his design.
hand drawing has so much SOUL. 3D puppets have felt lifeless and soulless for a long time. even claymation has soul, and 3D these days tries to approximate it with realistic lighting, textures, physics... early pixar movies had soul. is it just the rendering? what else is it?
>tumblrnose >just some fan artist throwing filters onto shitty lineart >Cinemaphile: SOUL!!!
I didn't realise noise distortion and 3D effect blue/red could prove that anon is full of shit...
In general, even ugly people don't want to look at other ugly people. It takes a specific (usually female) mindset when someone actually wants to see other uglies, the thought process is that they'll look less ugly/more normal by comparison. So Cheong may be ugly himself but his point still stands.
I never understood these insult rebuttals because the top is a CG character who can be entirely controlled and changed. The bottom is a real person. When it comes to the fantasy genre, people aren't looking for realism, they're looking for REFLECTIONS of realism. General motifs of coming-of-age or learning to be a leader. People don't actually engage in that genre so they can watch women get their periods before the pad was invented or watch a man scrub out the public toilets on a regular basis simply because "it's realistic!".
>He's punk
But he's black >He's a redneck
But he's black >He's a European King
But he's black >He's Cleopatra
But he's black >He's in Medieval Bohemia
But he's black >He has money
But he's black
It doesn't really bother me, especially in work that's heavily stylized, but it's interesting to me that a huge chunk of young artists are purposely avoiding making their characters attractive.
I can understand the impulse to include realistic faces and body types, especially after the body-positivity movement rightly lambasted magazines and such for photoshopping and presenting anorexic bodies as a healthy ideal, but fiction typically trades in idealized forms for good reason: they are appealing to the eye
I don't get that people itt defending Hobbie. He looks the most deliberately unappealing in the face out of these examples. They tried to give April a pretty face and the others have generic friendly cartoon appeal. Hobbie just looks like a hostile freak.
Hobie doesn't belong here. And most of these characters are only equally ugly as the rest of the art style in their movie, and there's no reason except racism to single them out just because they're black.
The only one who's exceptionally ugly in his own movie is the love interest for Ruby Gillman. He looks and acts like some weird alien plant, I don't know that thought process that went into his design at all.
Hobie doesn’t belong on this list. What the FRICK is that thing on the lower left though
>the most ugly one there doesn't belong
Here's the (You) that you were denied for so long.
I love androgynous beauty so top right really works for me.
>black=ugly
Racist.
>"Uggos could be here" he thought, "I HATE UGOS"
>milk 2.99
They make cars that run on milk? and holey molly 2.99? shit costs 4.99 a gallon at target nowadays!
That was the point. When the gas prises started to rise in the 2000s the goto defense was "still cheaper than a gallon of milk" as if people are going through 5-10 gallons of milk a week.
Bottom right isn't so bad, the rest are borderline racist caricatures though
>borderline
I don't know if I'm laughing because you think its borderline or if its because they look caricatures to begin with
Top right and bottom right are fine
Hobie isn't really ugly imo. His hair is just weird.
Honestly say what you will about Spiderverse but their black characters look pretty good compared to other animated movies. I'd breed black Jessica Drew
Then stop watching that amazingly small amount of pictures and watch literally anything else. I think you can only blame yourself for choosing to watch that.
>I-If you don't like it- d-don't watch it!
Kys moron
>i thought you hated that show
>yep! that's why i watch it every day!
fricking Cinemaphile dude
So nothing is allowed to be criticized?
Not all criticism is worthwhile criticism. If you’re just pointing at fairly normal looking black cartoon people going “UGLY UGLY UGGO UGLY”, you’re better off not watching.
>>I-If you don't like it- d-don't watch it!
Yes? Who goes out of their way to watch things they dont like besides schizophrenics
>amazingly small amount of pictures
Everything new in the West has succumbed to this cancer. It's more accurate to say 'just watch older media' or 'watch anime'.
You think that six is a big number? Are you a pre-schooler?
>It's only 6
Frick off back to tumblr you disingenuous piece of shit.
What does that image have to do with the OP?
>non-sequitur
Pathetic
If people stopped complaining about Strange New World, and Lightyear I wouldn't even remember they exist.
Top right and bottom right aren't ugly though
Then stop looking in the mirror.
Come home white man
Would've been a 10/10 movie if not for flatulence jokes
ey the dad ain't looking bad, he's just old
>the dad
Who?
I think he means Joe
I think you just don't like black people anon
Last time I checked, black people don't have tumor noses. Or any people.
And white people don't look like Hanna-Barbera humans in general, yet we don't get threads about them.
>what is an art style, Alex
Total Ugger Death
Kill uggers. Behead uggers.
Roundhouse kick an ugger baby into the concrete.
Hey those uggos seem to have something in common
Being in 3D?
NTA but I think you're right. The Strange World kid's concept art looked pretty alright even with his puff face but in 3D it's horrendous and the main turn off of his design.
Soul also looked better in 2D too. 3D and it's consequences have been a disaster on western animation
The photorealistic skin and hair doesn't work with the wacky proportions. Some things are better left to the imagination.
hand drawing has so much SOUL. 3D puppets have felt lifeless and soulless for a long time. even claymation has soul, and 3D these days tries to approximate it with realistic lighting, textures, physics... early pixar movies had soul. is it just the rendering? what else is it?
Everything looks better in 2D
>tumblrnose
>just some fan artist throwing filters onto shitty lineart
>Cinemaphile: SOUL!!!
I didn't realise noise distortion and 3D effect blue/red could prove that anon is full of shit...
the right column all look completely fine (middle is a little ugly but nothing outside of usual 3D character model)
I would too, if I had to look at OP's reflection in the mirror every day.
In general, even ugly people don't want to look at other ugly people. It takes a specific (usually female) mindset when someone actually wants to see other uglies, the thought process is that they'll look less ugly/more normal by comparison. So Cheong may be ugly himself but his point still stands.
nice try Cheong
What was the point of leaning into the gruft if he didn't make enough money to fix those folds?
am i in the minority for thinking he doesn't look that bad? out of the things he can control at least
If he was like a mongol warlord he would be intimidating as frick
Is he the face model?
I never understood these insult rebuttals because the top is a CG character who can be entirely controlled and changed. The bottom is a real person. When it comes to the fantasy genre, people aren't looking for realism, they're looking for REFLECTIONS of realism. General motifs of coming-of-age or learning to be a leader. People don't actually engage in that genre so they can watch women get their periods before the pad was invented or watch a man scrub out the public toilets on a regular basis simply because "it's realistic!".
That is the point. Nobody wants to see ugly people, not even other ugly people.
Top right looks hot no homo
You leave Hobie out of this. He's punk, they're MEANT to look shite.
>He's punk
But he's black
>He's a redneck
But he's black
>He's a European King
But he's black
>He's Cleopatra
But he's black
>He's in Medieval Bohemia
But he's black
>He has money
But he's black
Don't do Hobie dirty comparing him to that selection of ugly grubhub monstrosities or that sub-grubhub take on April.
I'm just sick of eyes being too damn close together in cartoons. The middle ones and especially bottom left just physically make me ill.
>Hideous nogs
Is this the left's form of racism?
Ironically the bottom drawing is an incredibly racist caricature.
Yeah
Women love Hobie, male opinions don't matter
Isn’t it racist to design deliberately unappealing BIPOC characters?
Bottom left is the only actually ugly one
Hobie looks great. Actual punk rocker look.
See, the issue is that these characters are all designed by white people and Americans, two groups that exclusively make nothing but ugly shit.
You will never be Japanese
You will always be ugly, inside and out.
>No wonder Americans are furries.
Germans too.
Which also makes sense, since they also draw horrifically ugly humans.
Why was Spottemgottem in Spider Verse
Just say Black person/chimpanzee fatigue.
But that would be incorrect. Because I wouldn't mind them if they were attractive
You will be defending nogs for free on the internet until you are dead and nobody will care
They will never thank you
They will replace you and you will convince yourself you deserve it
We need to go back
Cover all the mirrors on your house and don't look at other reflective surfaces.
Then why aren't you watching anime like a normal person?
image for ants
My man jazz soul isn't ugly.
The worst part is the strange world guy was designed to be cute.
I don't get that people itt defending Hobbie. He looks the most deliberately unappealing in the face out of these examples. They tried to give April a pretty face and the others have generic friendly cartoon appeal. Hobbie just looks like a hostile freak.
I'd argue being unintentionally ugly is worse than being intentionally ugly
OK racist
We all do.
Wokesters will be: the beauty is in the inside.
Everyone else: they're ugglier in the inside
Hobie doesn't belong here. And most of these characters are only equally ugly as the rest of the art style in their movie, and there's no reason except racism to single them out just because they're black.
