I have worked on this shitshow and I'll tell you what went wrong.
In the original plot The Wishing Star gave Magnifico the power to make wishes come true, and Magnifico's wish was to take the power to grant wishes away from The Wishing Star to establish him as a villain. The Wishing Star was a cute boy and something of a love interest for Asha, the driving story was about getting his powers back. A big chunk of the movie was already completed like that, but then a decision was made to cut out the romance, which made The Wishing Star plot lose all its significance. He was replaced by a literal toy and a new plot about grampa was invented and animated hastily. The movie was already extremely expensive because of all the tech experiments involved, there was just no way to really tie everything nicely in the end. Fawn left the project at that point. Everyone knew it's going to be shit.
Did they cut the romance because it is heteronormative?
The idea of a love interest driving the main character was pretty much unequivocally considered too banal and overdone and to be honest I don't disagree with it. The decision to fix it just came in too late.
It is a real human motivation and we can’t have that. These films are also ostensibly for kids who are not media literate enough to pick up on cliche.
>love is banal and overdone
First line of the millenial anthem.
People wonder why Disney is failing. This is why. They're movies for children, with some minor jokes thrown in for the parents. Kids are not cynical and jaded, that's why they're kids.
Disney's audience is not supposed to be the writers or 30 something year old people without families.
>Disney's audience is not supposed to be the writers or 30 something year old people without families.
The majority of their audience now are 30 something year old people without families. Disney has been shifting towards man-children since they acquired Star Wars and realized children didn't give a frick about the series. That was their watermark.
It was a stupid business decision. Do you want a family of 4 or 6 in Disneyland, or would you rather have a single wine aunt?
Children don't give a frick because Disney left the behind first and now teens too. Go on tiktok and almost every video about wish is zoomers making fun of the songs and being mad at Disney changing star boy in a marketable plushie, they want romance back
Kids have always been the primary audience for Star Wars
Yes they are, and I'm saying Disney recognized that Star Wars was failing with children by their management of The Last Jedi and Rogue One. Porgs were their attempt to reignite interest in the series and the only people who bought them were, famously, man-children and childless women.
That was mostly because Last Jedi sucked. OJ in space isn't exciting to kids. Starfighters, cool sword fights, and exotic locations.
Last Jedi was also fricking depressing, not really the kind of movie that would appeal to children, porgs or no porgs
>Disney has been shifting towards man-children
>girlbosses galore
Sure thing, troon.
>Girlbosses
>Not a sacred cow of millennials
Boy howdy, anon. You're really tickling my knickers. Millennials are obsessed with girlbosses, they're the ones that created Yas Queen and they're the ones that perpetuate Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss.
The only girl boss I can think of without reaching is Ms Bellum.
April was constantly kidnapped. Teela held her own. There was the Baroness I guess. There was Storm in the comics.
Baroness is constantly worrying that Destro is losing interest in her.
He’s talking about casual normalgay manchildren not autistic manchildren.
Pic related are the types of man-children anon was talking about. Basedboys are man-children, as are most hambeasts and "Disney adults." Those are the new demographic for Disney since they assume children will eventually get around to becoming consumers.
Imagine being the black bull that gets to plow her
Mmmnmnnnn yesssss
>hfw
Manchildren and girlbosses can easily coexist within the same corporate ecosystem.
I’d take it a step further and say girlbosses require man-children to survive, and vice versa. They’re the only people that take either of them seriously.
They bought them to bring in the male demographic in general and then for some moronic reason decided to morph them into girl brands.
Disney execs buy Marvel and Lucasfilm then hand it to the middle managers who are all women hostile to the brands and want to reinvent them as female empowerment stories. That is what is happening. One faction is sabotaging the plans of the higher ups.
I just dont get it. Why would the higher ups allow this to happen unless they are grossly incompetent or just wanted to throw away the boy demo which was the precise reason they bought them in the first place.
The highest level business guys make big business decisions and allocate creating the media to the creative side. They are supposed to be competent.
And now everyday that cute concept art of Asha and star boy goes viral on social media, but love is banal and overdone okay
Stop thinking of Disney as a singular will with 10-12 individuals in it. The reason romance is seen as "banal and overdone" by Disney is because there's a dozen no-fun sociopaths insisting that romance is banal and overdone, and anyone who fights back against that might lose their job. The bigger the studio, the "safer" and sloppier there storytelling is going to become.
>love story is banal
There it is. Everyone wants to just point at the higher ups and say Iger and Kennedy and whoever suck. The truth is that Disney is rotten from top to bottom. There is no one there who has any concept of story telling.
I sincerely hope this revelation connects with more people, anon. I sincerely hope that more people recognize that these companies aren't simply rotten due to the actions of a few, but the actions of the many as well. I can't even begin to imagine how monstrous the HR apparatus of Disney must be, how full of women it is.
>The idea of a love interest driving the main character was pretty much unequivocally considered too banal and overdone
The primary motivation for most people to do mostly anything is overdone? You utter fricking morons.
kinda crazy to think, when it's usually the Villain who has a motive beyond love or duty.
>The idea of a love interest driving the main character was pretty much unequivocally considered too banal and overdone
YOU ARE FRICKING DISNEY YOU REATARD. ITS ALL ABOUT LOVE, PRINCESSES AND TOUCHY FEELY SHIT.
God this company deserves to go out in flames. fricking morons
Your ambigously brown female youth pander charecter is overdone
I dunno. Considering the on-going epidemic or loneliness these days, a proper love story might just be the ticket.
The epidemic of loneliness is being caused *by* corporations like Disney, not despite them. If they weren't perpetuating it (either consciously or not) they would've tapped into the market years ago.
Yeah i got a question if you work for Feature Animation at Disney.
How bad are you morons gonna frick up Zootopia 2?
Judy's character is going to do a 180 and no longer want to be a cop. Her lifelong dream is changed because BLM came into prominence after 2016 and a pro-cop movie is just not gonna jive in today's modern atmosphere.
That is only true for twitter radicals. The silent manority of people are normal. The whole problem for disney is that they sre catering to these weirdos.
Does anyone care about israelitetopia anymore?
Especially with its cop message?
If your princess movie has no love interest, then I'm not watching it.
- t. Femanon
>a love interest driving the main character was pretty much unequivocally considered too banal and overdone
See? This is your problem, characters are no longer allowed to fall in love and use that love as motivation to achieve their goals.
>Love is too Banal.
This is why zoomers are all fricking virgins or trannies.
Frick you. A power couple fighting against another power couple would have been cool. Also thematic, because again, this is Disney. Everything is about romance and fantasy coming together. Fantasy is itself romantic, as you see with the likes of Tolkien or Lewis. There is romanticism to fantasy.
But didn’t they want this to be their multiversal movie? Like ninety percent of Disney movies are about romance. Why wouldn’t romance work here, in this nexus of romantic realities?
The want no film ever to show heterosexuality ever again. I am not joking.
No, because it was mixed race with a non-white woman.
This is the case of studio meddling and activist writer meddling. Activist writers wanted the star to be a non-binary shapeshifter.
Execs said no to the non-binary, so the writers just scrapped the romance idea altogether.
This makes more sense and the executives were right and the activists writers should never work in Disney again
>heteronormative
That's a big word to just say normal.
>heteronormative
I believe it. Disney making a big chunk of a movie and then throwing everything out half way through to make it more appealing to focus groups and kids and then just rushing/winging it is something they'd do. I think something similar happened with Frozen 2.
This happens with every modern blockbuster, that’s why it costs $300 million to make them because they have to keep redoing everything.
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day~
Thank you for flopping so bad that the discourse is actually picking up steam around 2D animation.
>City if Rosas
More like the City of Wokeass
why would you work on woke garbage? what the frick is your problem?
>what the frick is your problem?
Do you think the majority of men involved in genocide understand what they're doing?
Genocide here - yes, they do.
Why would I work in a woke garage?
I for one worked on a Baskin-Roberts trust fund band
I hear you're down to only 2 flavours now?
Romance is great. It's a shame they don't put it in movies anymore.
>I have worked on this shitshow
are you the coffee boy?
>I'll tell you what went wrong.
The concept is stupid, that's what went wrong, if you wanted to make a muslim movie you have the One Thousand and One Nights compilation of tales to pick, this looks like it was done by chatgpt picking random crap from different Disney ips and checking all the woke boxes.
Disney just have to adapt the classics, it is not that hard
They’d make everyone gay non- inary Black folk
>n the original plot The Wishing Star gave Magnifico the power to make wishes come true, and Magnifico's wish was to take the power to grant wishes away from The Wishing Star to establish him as a villain.
I didn't watch Wonder Woman 2, but where would cheetah woman fit into this?
Son of a b***h, those ARE basically the same plots! Is Didney really that creatively bankrupt? Iger's sunk low enough to borrow from WW84 of all things?
So they copied Stardust and backtracked
Wishing star as a cute boy sounds like an even shittier movie. What's wrong with Disney? Is this lull in quality as bad as the 70s and 80s, before Disney's comeback in the '90s? People forget Disney was in worse shape back then and Don Bluth and company were eating their lunch - American Tale, All Dogs Go to Heaven and Land Before Time mogged the hell out of every Disney movie beween Cinderella and Little Mermaid.
This is completely unprecedented in Disney history. They haven’t had a single profitable animated film since 2019, and they have had more live action flops than hits. I do think they saw their position as the default and felt they could shit anything out and it would be gold. There is definitely a competency crisis afoot in every major meta-corp and no one on the left can say anything about it because it is all idiot women and brown women ruining everything.
OP here, wow, I didn't expect that much hostility to be honest.
>Wishing star as a cute boy sounds like an even shittier movie.
This is why it was changed, but there was not enough time to adjust the rest of the film. In the end everyone got their wishes back, and The Wishing Star's wish was to become a normal human to be with Asha.
In that version of the story Asha only had one sidekick, Dahlia. The rest of the buddies were added to fill some plot gaps. Dario uses both the model and the real name of The Wishing Star after he became a "real boy".
>If the film is taking place in Spain, then why was she black and not Muslim?
She isn't black, she is Mediterranean. Do you know how tan works, lol?
How pushy are the executives?
>How pushy are the executives?
The real higher ups, not much, they aren't that involved. It's mostly the marketing that naturally influences the final shape of the movie, the creative and sales branch basically must work in convergence because it's not just about making a movie but also selling it.
My observation is that it's more of everyone "guessing" how execs are feeling about what is being produced and acting accordingly to make them happy.
> it's not just about making a movie but also selling it.
Are they firgetting this part? They keep making these movies for no one that no one asked for. Can I be. Disney exec? Pay me 1 million a year and I would have blocked all these shitty movies and saved the company billions.
>Star becomes a cute blonde-haired white boy.
Okay, now I see why that was dropped.
The script change had nothing to do with his appearance, hence why the model was kept in the movie in a different role.
You’re obviously larping but yes every little girl wants to be a princess and part of that fantasy is falling in love with a handsome prince. Brave did an ok twist on this where she didn’t actually like any of the princes so didn’t end up with any of them. That movie didn’t do so well though did it?
>mediterranean
Lol
>She isn't black, she is Mediterranean. Do you know how tan works, lol?
Can tell you worked on this
She is 100% mullatto with Black braids to accentuate how black she is. Pic related is an actual med from egypt. Hollywood acts like the second you step outside of Europe it is all Black folk.
Counterpoint, a Spanish influencer
Who is 100% a mullatto from the new world. Spain gets a bunch of latinas.
>Spain gets a bunch of latinas.
can't believe what americans do to words
That's Kayla Phillips from the United States, no relation to Spain
>no relation to Spain
made for Big Spanish wiener
>Mediterranean
She’s darker than jasmine, a literal Arab and Pocahontas, a literal NA.
>she is Mediterranean
Bro, I'm mediterranean and this b***h is a negress.
If the film is taking place in Spain, then why was she black and not Muslim?
Everything is about Black folk.
>Movie set in Moorish Spain
>Google "The Moors"
>Literally the first image that comes up
Gee,
That's modern imagined artwork of Mansa Musa. They really, really love to depict Moors as black even though they were just tan.
And here's actual historic artwork: Abu Hafs Umar al-Murtada on the right
The Moorish leaders in Spain regularly dyed their beards/hair black to look more like the Moors from the south, because the elite moorish line was so intermixed with euros that they looked like Spanish euros.
So, the ones in Spain were even paler than the ones like Abu Hafs Umar al-Murtada was Moroccan and lived all his life there and had no apparent non-Moroccan heritage.
The star boy isn't really a secret, because if you google Wish concept art you get him
We already had a great Disney kino drop this year
god i wish taht was me
>random villager: i wish to grope a child
>Magnifico the villian: DENIED and you will never wish that again
>Asha the hero: Granted! Because all wishes should be granted Oh and everyone remembers their wish!
>Me: my wish is for Asha the mullatto to sit on my face
I don’t care about this shitty movie, how is Zootopia 2 turning out so far?
I just WISH Nintendo sues them for plagiarism
tl;dr who cares
>ANOTHER trash animation with PoC main hero
it's all tiresome
A white person with a tan is not necessarily a PoC.
she has afro style locks, you cancel white people if they have such hairstyle
What went wrong is the main character doesn't have white skin.
My wish is for all dindus, israelites and leftists to be exiled to Africa forever.
Fake and gay
Why morons alwaycome with their elementary school fanfic tier post here?
All the feminists working in front of the camera still have male partners. They need men in their personal lives but posture to their potential audiences that femcels are the ideal. Incels at least work for noir, action, thrillers, dystopian sci-fi. Femcels need even better songs, other gimmicks etc to make up for the lack of conflict.
Lmao
Yes these movies are to push endless plastic junk on kids but they are not watching these films
imagine being a kid during this era where everything sucks
Kids think everything is awesome since they play fortnite and shit they like. They are literally not aware of this garbage.
Was Jennifer Lee responsible for cutting the love interest? The original plot makes more sense. Executive meddling killed this movie dead.
Executives didn't want the star to be "nonbinary". The writers then just cut the entire romance plot to spite Disney.
>because of all the tech experiments involved,
um its cell shaded like a 2002 game
Under the hood I am sure there is cutting edge technology and they rendered ever single nose hair but none of it is impressive and audiences do not care.
Reminder that this larp of a thread will then be used by moronic chuds in the future to say “dude don’t you know wish was totally like this during development? I know cuz someone posted it on Cinemaphile!”. This will be them unironically. It’s how all chud narratives evolve. They really believe they’re special.
The meta plot about white men holding back women and minorities creativity is actually an inversion of current reality. Disney have women in charge of their creative teams and no white cis male will even be allowed to pitch any idea
This adorkable wizard is the villain?
I just don’t see it
Lol i want to see disney watching all the people dissapointed that the original plot of Star Boy + Princess and Evil Couple is what people wanted not this gay girlboss shit
Isn't the moral in these wishing stories always supposed to be peoples wishes weren't what they actually wanted, and usually the wish is undone in the end as they had what they needed all along
