The original show had atrocious animation. Watch any episode. There can be no way this is animated worse than the OG, which started low and then cratered in season 5. The show's borderline unwatchable from a modern standpoint regarding how poorly animated it is.

I agree, but it depends what they do with him (them? it?). A non-binary person existing is not political; the show having a whole plot about Morph's gender identity or specific prejudices would be. If it's just one of those like "Actually Loki is canonically a genderqueer pansexual" but it never really shows up on screen then who cares about trivia on a wiki page.

I blame Empire magazines article on X-Men 97 and eve more the twitter channel X-MenUpdates who quoted Empire Magazine. That channel pushed the whole Non-Binary aspect of Morph as prominently as they could and they got the attention they were seeking. Marvel/Disney did not advertise how Morph would be like directly.

Comic-book, animation and gaming journalism have been plagues on comic books, animation and gaming.

I know this board doesn't actually read comics, but I remember an interview with, I think it was Gillan or Ewing, who complained about this very thing. Paraphrasing, the "wikification" of fandom means a lot of people become fans without reading the stories or really understanding the medium (comics aren't HBO dramas, it's always been perfectly acceptable to just ignore a particularly bad mini or run, for example). And then you end up with a ton of people who know about some dumb trivia about a character and think it's more important than it is. And ironically, that makes it LESS possible to ignore or retcon it away! Because everyone keeps bringing it up. YouTube has made it even worse with the "X shocking facts" about characters that zero in on fun but obscure trivia.

I think the example was the Draco storyline, revealing Nightcrawler to be an actual demon, more or less. It was reviled and ignored almost immediately, but then this shit starts happening and suddenly everyone who knows anything about Nightcrawler knows about his demon dad. "How many people who complain about the Draco actually read the story, as opposed to the wiki summary"? And then they demand that it be addressed any time you use Nightcrawler.

Back in the day Magneto would have telepathy in a random issue in 1964 and a fan in 1999 would have just accepted it as a weird one off quirk that can be ignored because Stan was drunk that day and confused Charles and Eric. But today the online crowd would demand a DEEPLORE explanation tying in the Maximoffs, Franklin Richards, the Beyonders and the Living Tribunal (huge overlap with the powergay shonen crowd for some reason).

This is how you know someone is a fake fan tbh. If they only care about the lore. I'm like that with 40k, I've always found the setting interesting but logistically it would be a nightmare to play (it's basically unknown where I live). So now and then I'll read wiki articles or watch a youtube video about something that's interesting, but that approach leads you to focus on the narrative and the metanarrative, on the structure of the setting and the key players, completely losing the vibe and atmosphere. I'm at least aware of it with myself regarding 40k, but most people who fall into that trap don't realize it.

I think psychologically it's something similar to why people get into conspiracy theories, people want to feel like they're privy to some secret knowledge. Which makes them feel superior, I guess. Nobody wants to read 1000 X-Men comics to figure out the deal with Xorn, but they want to know the deal with Xorn because they want to be able to participate in some convo that mentioned him, maybe impress someone.

Yeah they think it's more important to know "how things work" than to just enjoy shit. It's like saying you're a building construction fan when you only care about screws or something.

it's one thing that the X-Men Updates twitter reported that thing about Morph, but then they got a huge backlash over it and the channel, otself callls the commenters bigots and blocks anything negative about Morph. The worst things reporters / journalists do is tell people what to think and insult people who think differently. Their job should be plainly reporting the news and let the readers form their own opinions. Anything that a reporter does that takes a side is biased and is taken more as opinion than true reporting.
When JJ Jameson reports on Spider-Man as a criminal, that's bias, not true reporting.

              >Their job should be plainly reporting the news and let the readers form their own opinions.

Except some things aren’t just a matter of opinion. Some things are just facts. You cannot for example report “X says Unicorns aren’t real while Y says they are real” and then leave it at that. That is bad reporting. It is not biased to report in the story for context that Unicorns are a mythical creature who do not exist in real world.

In case like this, where people’s feelings are just hurt because a shapeshifter doesn’t identify as one specific gender ie male, being angry about it is factually ridiculous. By biological essentialism the second the shapeshifter turns into a woman they would have to be a woman, yes? If the shapeshifter defaults to a non-binary non-male/non-female appearance then what are they if not non-binary? The other alternative is to call them gender fluid but in this instance Morph identifies as non-binary. So where is the problem?

Calling someone a bigot when you complain about “LGBTQ propaganda” in this context is appropriate. It is factual because you are just upset about someone identifying as non-binary and when it’s literally a shapeshifter it makes the entire outrage all the more ridiculous. It is not responsible to go just go “welp, who can say which side here is correct, it’s up to you”.

In the real world: There are two genders. This person doesn't feel like they fit in with either. That's it. Nothing confusing about it, really, this is one of the simpler SJW concepts.

In the show: This person is a shapeshifter, who constantly takes on other forms. We have seen Morph do so in the pilot, for fun, all alone. Morph seems to almost instinctively mimic (heh) appearances, regardless of gender.

Is it truly impossible to imagine that a person who has a completely fluid physical form and can alter their genitals on a whim might have a different view of their own gender? This is a very rare case where the SJWing actually kind of makes more sense. Any shapeshifter would have serious body image issues, tbh.

I don't like that they're changing it from the OG show, which very much did not do that (though Morph was fricked up as is for different reasons, thanks, Sentinels and Sinister). But a shapeshifter going by they is just like... logic, anon. This is a fantasy world, different rules even if you disagree with IRL people like that.

Don't be obtuse, you know I meant what words people in those communities used.

Fundamentally disordered pedos are incapable of forming true communities. All they know how to do is rape kids and ruin IPs.

Yeah, if there's one thing pedophiles are bad at, it's definitely networking with each other to share materials.

Non-binary is made up bullshit for morons who want feel special but won't commit. It's not an actual sexuality.

Correct, it’s a gender identity, not a sexuality. At least you got something right.

Liberals have literally gone back in time the best way they know how in order to poison the things we love. If that's not an attack in the middle of a culture war then I don't know what is.

The show is gonna suck ass but if they are throwing such a shit fit over it already I'm excited to see what happens when they come to the MCU. I want it to be utter moronic chaos over dumb capeshit.

Pretty much all fans of capeshit media from the 90s are conservatives, it's funny when you think about it because pretty much all creatives in general and not just in capeshit have always been liberal

If morph is non-binary, yet he's a mutant human, that means he still has the biology of a human and has to eat and drink and if he eats and drinks then he has to have organs that
expels hard food waste and liquid waste. does he just have one hole to expel both urine and feces? ???

Morph is starting to sound Satanic the more you think of his Non-Binary status. He could be a very dangerous villain.

It's sad that homosexuals have to pretend that someone is "mad" at their existence or entertainment for it to valid. No one's mad morph is non binary. They're mad that's there's homosexuals involved with the show who will treat that like a political thing instead of just a sci-fi element that stems from his mutation. If you didn't have losers running around legitimately preaching the possibilities of being non binary this wouldn't be an issue.

Disney has officially killed Cheesecake in all its IP, Leia Slave has been banned, Jessica Rabbit is now wearing a detective jacket, the women of the MCU have to be covered at all times, Captain Marvel was created only because Feige hates Ms Marvel and her swimsuit and last week, the Enchantress was back wearing what? A conservative costume in the style of the MCU. They've done the same in the latest games and now in the cartoons, In the cringe MSHEU What If and the new non binary X-Men 97, Disney hates consumers.

Because this has been a bad week for Marvel comic book fans, first the terrible casting of the Fantastic Four with old and ugly actors and now the pathetic X-Men 97 LGBT, which not only changed Morph's sexual orientation, but also put a burqa on Goblin Queen and removed Psylocke from the team

Genuinely looks like some seasonal isekai/fantasy anime made by a no-name studio.

Studio Mir is doing the animation, so that's probably why. They want the wannabe anime look.
