Because some one or some group of people at marvel just randomly decided to make him gay. They wanted a legacy character to be gay and they pulled ice man out of a hat I guess.
Which was really funny because they dropped the big reveal that he was gay literally 1-2 pages after he was talking about how much he wanted to frick the female teacher.
What motivates this mentality? Isn't it a bit disrespectful to just take decades-old legacy characters and turn them into homosexuals because reasons? Why not just make actually new characters?
They want a well-liked gay character, but making a new gay character that's an actual good character takes work, so easier to just take a popular established character and claim he takes it up the ass now, regardless of how much it conflicts with anything else.
I’m gonna pitch an Iceman comic to Marvel where it turns out Bobby was just bi-curious at best and the gay thoughts Teen-Jean was picking up were typical bi-curiosities but her being a dumb c**t took it to mean he was full blown Liberace gay and used her telepath powers to “help him” accept that he liked penis and not vegana. The mind whammy starts to wear off slowly, his post-nut clarity makes him feel disgusted with boffing guys which he chalks up to his years of repression until one day five guys are balls deep in him and it wears off completely, causing him to have a full blown mental breakdown and become the X-Men’s newest villain.
