I just rewatched the pilot and it's better than any of the episodes of the actual show.
The animation and voice acting is superior and I'm tired of people acting like it's not a huge quality difference. Viv had to have all these theater kids voice her characters but none of them are voice actors. All the animation was truly indie and lost it's rubber hosey charm. The best example is in Charlie's expressions and Angel Dust might as well be a different character with how he moves.

A big issue with this show I don't see mentioned so much is there doesn't seem to be anything intrinsically bad about hell, itself? Like, it isn't on fire or anything? The problem with Vivzie's hell isn't that it's religiously inaccurate, it's that she misses the point of what makes Hell a cool setting in the context of media to begin with. She consistently holds back on showing the dangerous terrain and crazy demonic magic battles happening in the midst of fire.
If you think of hell and demons in anything from Dante's inferno to badass metal covers to crazy comic book and video game depictions. Hell as a media motif is cool specifically because it's so dangerous or wild. Vivzie's hell feels constantly like that part is there but like she's always actively avoiding showing it in order to focus on other things.
I think you really see it with any Helluva episode taking place in Wrath. Striker is a demonic cowboy assassin riding a flaming hellhorse, yet because the imagery around Wrath is so mundane and there's no one busting out any crazy powers for him to juxtapose to, he just feels like a generic Western parody in a generic setting
The issue is that Hell being mundane or more like a normal human city is typically the punchline to a joke in a lot of media including things Vivzie grew up on like South Park. Hazbin/Helluva took this joke and decided to genuinely worldbuild around it, to the point where the joke itself is lost.
The potential for redemption would be limbo/purgatory, which I guess this hell is more like. And then second death would be true hell perhaps.
