I know exactly what went wrong with Rick and Morty, why it jumped from a good show that was clearly losing quality to absolutely dogshit in a single season, it's all because of the fricking szechuan sauce meme.
Just think about it, at the end of season 3 ep 1 (the last great episode of the series before it started to lose quality) Rick ends the episode shouting about how "avenging his dead family is fake" and he only wants the Mulan mcnugget sauce, clearly it was all a joke to show that Rick is fricking nuts, hilarious, anyway, after the mess that happened in the real world with the McDonald's nugget sauce, I just image Dan Harmon wanting to completely rework the show, he NEVER wants to hear the words "szechuan sauce" again, because he feels that it gives the show, and in turn him, an embarrassing reputation. This show becomes "haha funny intellectual show with pickle and sauce meme" and Dan's ego won't take that. He needs this show to have a positive reputation, which is why he's been injecting himself more and more in the shows writing in an attempt to try and manage a train that derailed years ago.

It was reported they felt uncomfortable from the gross whiteboard drawings that were in the R&M writer's room from day one. If you watch the show it shouldn't be a surprise, but Rick and Morty got popular so women wanted in anyway.

It’s not all female writers (Heather Anne Campbell is one of the better writers on staff) and the men aren’t blameless (the worst writer, Nick Rutherford, is a man) but overall they’ve introduced problems that are pretty uniquely female. For example, the first time a female writer got her hands on the show, she made Summer bawd out for a wastelander because of daddy issues, a blow to her characterization. Similarly this season, the first time a lesbian got her hands on her, she had a weird bisexual fling with a side character just to do it? The female writer who wrote Pickle Rick (which is an episode I do like mostly) did literally toss in a self-insert to BTFO Rick with FACTS and LOGIC, and overall the show’s gender politics has only gotten more obnoxious with time (it’s hilarious to me that Season 1’s Raising Gazorpazorp was the most fun/nuanced/equal feeling tackling of gender in the show, before female writers.)
The blame can’t be put squarely on the shoulders of female writers, but, Beth and Summer have certainly suffered because of some of them.

I didn't say that at all, I'm not talking about these women on a personal level, yes it is their fault that their work was bad, they should have waited longer before being put on a show like this, however they were hired to bring more women to the writers room, regardless of their actual talents, and that mistake is the fault of the people who hired them.
Overall, my point here is that "female writers" isn't an argument, just say you hate women and move on so I can ignore you from now on

        Anonymous

        >these women aren't bad writers because they're WOMEN AND WOMEN ARE ICKY AND GROSS AND HAVE COOTIES its because they are unexperienced writers

The whole reason why Rick and Morty was willing to hire a bunch of inexperienced writers in the first place was precisely BECAUSE they were women. Harmon and whoever else was making these decisions were salivating at the chance to show off how progressive they are for hiring female writers, and how hilarious women are for being on the show, that they willingly took in writers whom you admit aren't as good at what they do. They valued having a "good" ratio of reproductive anatomy in the writers' room over having the best pool of talent they could find.

The reason Cinemaphile hates Rick and Morty's female writers isn't because "women are icky and gross." It's because Rick and Morty's female writers appear to have been hired for being women rather than for being good.

After Season 2 finished, the show was instantly renewed for like 8 more seasons all at once. So they had to delay Rick's character growth and backstory and that's why Season 3 episode 1 is the way it is, why it completely backtracks the Season 2 finale and goes "actually Rick is awesome and was in control the whole time"

Actually that renewal happened during the airing of Season 4.
Season 3 Episode 1 was originally supposed to air along with Season 2 Episode 10 as a two-part finale but due to it becoming too dense it got pushed back and Dan wrote that purge parody episode in a single day to fill the extra slot.

I agree with all of this. Not the rest though, because I think there have been multiple attempts to recapture the virality of szechuan sauce and pickle rick, none of which worked. Also, as you said, season 3 was already dogshit, they didn’t retroactively produce those episodes as a response to the mulan memes. Rick and Morty has never truly been “zombified” outside of maybe one episode (Hugh Jackman). Yeah it’s flawed but it’s still better than most ongoing cartoons. The ongoing identity crisis of the show has its ups and downs, but I see an overall good forecast in the direction its trending in many ways compared to Season 5. It won’t be what it was, but I still think what it is and will be has value.

No, that's not exactly it, by the time S3E1 aired, the rest of S3 was already recorded, scripted, and likely animated too, so the reception of that first episode wouldn't have been felt until season 4, and season 3 is dogshit beyond that first episode, so it couldn't have been that.
What happened was the show becoming a shit show direction wise with both of the showrunners starting to care less about the show, Justin Roiland giving less and less of his inputs and ideas and remaining just a voice actor because he became starstruck with fame and started doing stupid shit because he's a manic manchild, while Harmon was going through his divorce and getting angry at the audience the show was cultivating because he's also a manchild, giving him less of a reason to put effort in.
Add in the completely new writing staff they got in for S3 (comprised of mostly women) and executive demands since the show was getting increasingly popular and execs wanting to squeeze the show for all it's worth, and you can see why the show went in such a nosedive starting from season 3.

It's true that S3 was fully scripted by the time S3E1 aired, but it's possible that the incident affected the later seasons, particularly since one of the biggest changes in direction of the show was about contradicting the deeper point of that joke. It's more likely that the writers were just out of ideas like

As I was trying to say, I think Dan Harmon should focus on other Ricks and Morties exploring other dimensions, now that there is no longer an “primary antagonist” for Rick C-137.
AWBH was what inspired me into thinking this idea. It would help keep things fresh, since the other dimensional characters would be subtly different from the main characters we’ve been watching.

Some parts of it could be good. Like Morticia and female Rick. Some actual lasting character development would be nice.

Holy shit, a comedy show that actually stands up for important social justice issues instead of just making random pop cultural references?

AND it has a writer's room that is actually diverse and properly represented by women of color and not just full of straight white men?

And chuds hate it because they fired a pedo rapist? Did I get that right?

I'm assuming the last trans one is not real because it sounds too hamfisted. It sounds like something a 15 year old on Twitter would write so I refuse to believe that's actually in the show.

I meant, is the screenshot pulled from that episode? I already know people can make up captions – I was just curious about the source.

So you know that episode we've been teasing all season long that'll be really epic and resolve alot of questions that have been left open since the shows beginning? It's actually a meta joke episode about how much we hate you and how you as a fan expect too much from us poor writers. Frick you

I hate the characters because they aren't funny, Rick was never a likable character he was always a narcissistic pessimist who only did things for his own selfish gain, remember when he made his grandson smuggle huge seeds in his ass that later gave him brain damage? Hilarious

Does anyone else think that Season 3 might be the most carefully constructed season, while Season 4 is the least? That's not to say that 4 is the worst season, but I think that the show was at its most directionless then, and before you bring it up, this has nothing to do with the Story Train episode. Even though Season 3, like all seasons, was mostly episodic, almost every episode was still dedicated to exploring a new angle of the characters, while in Season 4, most episodes didn't change or flesh out the characters beyond what we'd already seen of them. Not only was Season 4 made after nearly every writer from the previous seasons had left, but it was also the first season after the 70 episode order, and so the writers were then trying to figure out what to do with all those seasons rather than writing every season not knowing how many more there would be in the future.

After all the effort and work they put into season 3 didn't pay off (turned out like shit) they probably were just like "frick it if you don't want our "masterfully" constructed story arc and just want poop jokes here you go"

    Sonic speed

The show kept going downhill went the kept doing the everyone gone back normal rather than having Morty progress his character naturally But instead he gets mind wiped randomly and changes when it's convenient

Ex purge ep he became slightly aggressive at the end. The candy bar didn't had anything in it to make him that way

Interdimensioal cable ep morty told summer he was a more understanding morty then the one in dead Morty in the yard

Beth is the only character who changed but didn't felt out of place doing so

Also some plot episodes speed run everything like it's ttg

Least this season is better the last 2 were trash minus the vat of acid one

the show is effectively sperging out, there are episodes with creative ideas and funny jokes but it sometimes just fricks up for no reason, the highs are decent but the lows are really low, like season 5 had some decent last episodes but that sperm episode just did not make sense, season 6 had that selfcest stuff and incest fortune cookie episode, same shit is happening to the current season, there are some good episodes like jerrick, rick prime and the guys who see everything but they just frick it up with shit like the shitty season premiere or the OPEN YOUR MIND episode

i would say that has something to do with the fact that we have multiple writers, some writers actually know what they are doing and other make self inserts, incest and movie references

The last episode was pretty good, honestly, didn't even get close to touching how bad the sperm episode was. First episode of this season was Nick Rutherford writing, so it was guaranteed dogshit from the get-go.
