They're fine when just chatting about their passion for film but they're obnoxious when a film does something that goes against their preferences. Like every films needs to hit the points they arbitrarily impose on everything based on what pop films did before. When they review art films, it feels off because they're not used to talking about something they can't just summarize by comparing it to other popular films.

    "No"

They're not good critics because they never actually go in depth about WHY they dislike a film. They just spend the entirety of their videos doing a beat-by-beat synopsis of the film and making snide remarks because that's easier. Sometimes it's funny when youtubers do this (Pitch Meeting is still somehow funny so many years later imo) but they're not adding anything in the way of humor other than intermittent sarcasm. It's the lowest form of "content"

do you really need them to tell you in detail why the fotm slop is bad?

Well they're doing a weird thing now where they barely ever criticize any movies or tv shows at all. They seemed to have completely abandoned Star Wars, because there's still no Ahsoka review, and clearly they're not even going to touch The Flash or Little Mermaid even though there's a lot of material there. I think they think they're being edgy or some shit. Critical Drinker picked up where they're leaving off.

And then I have another theory that youtube is just dying.

I don’t see how it’s being edgy, it’s more like they’ve just lost interest in modern pop culture flicks and the whole Half in the Bag format in general. Could partly be the sorry state of popular films, but also likely the fact that they’re getting older and these new movies don’t appeal to them as much anymore.

They seem more enthused when doing their Re;View and Best of the Worst eps these days.

Most if their critiques are quite shallow and then Rich Evans does that annoying fake laugh. Awful.

I've been here long enough to see Cinemaphile idolize them and turn on them once they became too mainstream

Them becoming mainstream did affect the quality of their content.

No. Even though I think the prequels are bad, and the plinkett reviews are funny, all of the actual claims as to what specifically is bad about them are wrong

I recently watched their review of a Donald Farmer movie. They called him creepy and gross for having young women get naked on camera. Meanwhile, they used to do the exact same thing

    surface level low iq discussion
they would rather criticize cherrypicked internet opinions about the movie than talk about the movie itself .
they are not capable of discussing positive aspect of the movies.
    they barely pay attention.
    read imdb reviews.
complain and generalize about "people/media" complaining/praising a movie on internet.
talk about how they would remake the movie.

They're not my friend simulator, that position is filled by Raz0rfist and his portly editor friend. I rarely like the games they play, but I always watch the streams because the conversations remind me of those I used to have with friends, just with way better political commentary. And based on the superchats they get, 80% of the viewers are in that same boat but just to a much more embarrassing extent. Last night there were like six superchats that were all variations of "So guess what guys, I found the guy who broke into my car and I'm taking him to court." People were *paying* money to pretend they were saying these things to people who knew and cared what the frick they were talking about. It felt really embarrassing because it was basically the same kind of shit sent to girls on OF only without the sexual component. And it's not like they can even point out how weird or sad this is, because these people are giving them money.

I've been thinking of putting together a script about someone who's life this is. Just title it something obvious like "Parasocial". Get some fat bald guy in his 20's, slap some of those giant thick glasses and explain how he has something like 6k a month through a combination of social security from two deceased parents and under the table jobs selling stuff online. And how in spite of this he lives fairly meagerly on around 1500 of it as every month he spends the lion share on various patreons, onlyfans and superchats desperately pretending girls like him and he has friends.

      >, slap some of those giant thick glasses and explain how he has something like 6k a month through a combination of social security from two deceased parents
And add in the twist that he hides their dead bodies in the freezer and the government still thinks their alive. I'm pretty sure a guy in Japan did that.

based on the fact that they all want to make movies, and when they did they made a pathetic abortion disguised as a "so bad its good" flick, no I dont think they have much meaningful to say about filmmaking

By your logic you have to make kino before talking shit about Space Cop. Link or gtfo

The fat one just copes with not being part of the industry by making up what HIS version of the movie would be everytime while the sexy nubile one just giggles and teases the audience. They were never real critics.

    No.
They're good when they sit and discuss industry related topics on HITB.
And they're good at dribbling drunken shit on BOTW.
But their "re:views" are absolutely pathetic - where they just recap the story beats like a couple of excited 8 year olds talking about their new computer game on the school playground. Nearly all youtube reviews/analysis videos boil down to people saying "this happens, and then this happens, and then this happens!".
I might as well be reading wikipedia at this point.

    Not Mike Stoklasa.

Mike’s suggestions for improving a film are awful and his long tangents of how he would direct a film end up would make a boring film.

His Star Trek fanfiction video is one of the most cringe things I have ever heard.

Most of the time. They gave some awful recommendations. But RLM is based for including pirated footage in their reviews for Avatar and Exorcist Believer.

No. If your critique is just saying what happens in the story and reacting to it, that is the lowest form of critical analysis. Occasionally they do say some things that are helpful such as background information about the movie but that's about it.

No, but it doesn't matter. Their thing is that they are genuine in their interests. Almost all the content you see on YouTube, from video "essays", that are just retelling a story, lore videos, which are word for word read from Wikipedia, to gameplay videos, where everyone overexagerates, are fake and many people are tired of it. Mark my words in the future being genuine will be bringing in the subs, your expertise, or even topic won't matter.

I think they're alright, I am not a big movie buff but I've learned a few things from them. However their arrogance, their ego and their inflated sense of self-importance has soured me on them over the years. Mike used to be the funniest guy on the Internet when he was mellow and sardonic, now he's happy, almost childlike at times and not very funny anymore. Jay has always been a prick who needs to be pulled down a few pegs. Rich is hilarious as a punching bag for Mike, but he is probably the biggest midwit on the Internet and should not be listened to for any reason.
