It's an interview with the director where he states himself that he is a woke director and made a woke movie. He is directly telling people to not watch it because it's a bad movie.
No one should watch Hosoda films because he is just a bad director who makes pointless self-indulgent trash for gays and furgays. I especially like how every one of his movies has a scene where the main character has to make a choice and the decisions are visually represented as a fork in the road in front of them. He thinks this is the most clever thing and puts it in every movie.

Mamoru Hosoda is a hack homosexual and this movie is particularly lame. Anime movies have been in a shit state for years. In the past few years the best ones released have been fricking Hibike Euphonium, Made in Abyss, and DragonBall Super Broly. It's that bad.

I liked Dragon Ball Super. As someone who actually attempted to sit through Dragon Ball GT it felt like a return to form and even an improvement on the original formula.
I'm not a fan of Super but the new Broly movie was solid. Broly was always a moronic meme character with a really stupid backstory and this reimagining did a lot for him. It was way better paced with better action than Return of Frieza which aside from the return of Frieza was a disappointment, Broly felt better thought out.
I never liked Broly and thought all the movies were stupid (fricking loved the show tho).

Anime recommendations are just the worst, I don't think I've ever taken one but I've stumbled upon animes that were recommended to me ages ago and loved them. Does anyone else get that?
I've got Vinland Saga which was recommended by someone who agreed with my taste on everything sitting at the top of my watch list and I can't bring myself to open it, so instead I'm going to watch Grimgar which nobody has ever mentioned to me before.
I didn't watch the Vinland Saga anime but I read the manga. It's OK but some of the focal characters are not compelling. Thorfinn, the main one, is like a dull viking Sasuke. Askeladd absolutely carries.
I dislike many anime movies because they are rarely mature or imaginative. They're like lame drama films with a small twist and try too hard to be emotionally manipulative as a replacement for good scripting.
Anyway I recommend Sword of the Stranger if Vinland Saga is supposed to be to your tastes. It's just a really good samurai movie.

Hosoda just makes the same movie over and over.
It's not really a good movie, it tries to apex Beauty and the Beast (specifically the Disney version) but it fails miserably because you just can't replicate it with very stilted CGI, it also goes from romance movie to pseudo detective film with one of the shittiest conclusions to a domestic abuse plot I have ever seen
this is a somewhat accurate take if one judges the film based upon the story.
the film has a couple of musical-numbers that are worth watching, and plenty of funny/fascinating avatars that one only catches a glimpse of. The animation is also pretty good, but if you're watching the dubbed version the out-of-synch lip-movement becomes quite jarring.
I respect Hosoda for trying to visually represent the internet.

Your mistake was watching s Mamoru Hosoda movie. He's only made 2 good movies ever: the Girl who Leapt Through Time, and Digimon: Our War Game. And I'm pretty sure those are good in spite of him, not because of him. He really does suck and gets worse each movie.

I wouldn't waste my time. I watched it on my co-worker's recommendation (female) and my wife and I both thought it was garbage. Weird and awkward storytelling, japs can't into drama and human emotions a lot of the time.

I think it's partly a translation and partly a convention issue. The Cinemaphileddicts seem to get some depth from anime romance, and there's been a few non-drama shows where I've actually felt for a character, but unless you've watched every anime for the last 20 years you miss a lot of the visual cues and are lacking in some of the assumed knowledge.
I don't know personally, I'm not that guy, but that's the feeling I get.

i saw this movie and i dont see what was "woke" about it.
that being said the movie itself wasnt anything special. the animation was nice at some points but nothing i hadnt seen before and the story was pretty simple and dragged on for some time without much happening.
