Do people hate the Matrix sequels? I always got the sense people were disappointed but they weren’t loathed like the Star Wars prequels. The Architect scene maybe gets a lot of scorn.
It's really good until the end of the highway scene, then it feels like they just skipped 15 minutes of the story and suddenly it's "ok now we're doing this break in job on this building you've never heard of".
Reloaded might not be as deep as the first film but it dialled the action up to 11, which made up for it.
Sorry if you wanted to see 90 minutes of Neo and Morphius in highbacked leather chairs discussing the finer points of philosophy and ethics in the sequel, but that was never what the first film or the series ever was. It was only psudes on the internet trying to kid themselves that they had seen something highbrow because it vaguely touched on philosophical themes to hang action scenes off them.
The third film was shit though as it didn't even have cool action scenes.
I saw the trilogy in theaters. The first one when I was 11. I obsessively watched all of them after they got DVD releases, including Animatrix. Reloaded is definitively the peak of the three, but it doesn't surpass the tone of the first film. Animatrix is a certified masterpiece in the anthology world. The worst aspect of the sequels is Jada Pinkett Smith's casting as Niobe. Revolutions jumped the shark.
The worst aspect of the sequels is Agent Smith. He shows up randomly and is disconnected from the rest of the plot until he’s suddenly in the finale and is the key to solving the conflict. No buildup or payoff, he fights and assimilates Neo then dies and the Matrix is rebooted.
OTOH, Hugo Weaving is hammier than a deli, which is entertaining at least.
Hugo Weaving's hammy persona as Smith was the perfect foil to Keanu's trademark wooden acting. I don't think it's a coincidence that Agent Smith felt so disconnected. He was the literal free agent of the series. His sporadic appearances are an expression of his freedom
As a continuation of the story and lore the movie sucked donkey dick.
Special effects, fight scenes and soundtrack were a fricking banger and I still enjoy watching this movie today.
Still listening to the Juno Reactor Album to this date from time to time.
>vague and pretentious monologue punctuated with someone asking "Why?" because it makes no sense >then fight scene go whip whap whup whup for far too long
Fricking garbage.
meh, it was alright. the problem with the franchise is that the more they explained shit, the more moronic it got. vagueness was one of the strongest points of the original.
I also don't get why they decided Neo had to dress like a priest
also both this and revolution are aeons better than resurrections
If someone much smarter than me could edit out all the ergo hurr nonsense, all that nebulous, meaningless trash then the story itself wouldn't lose anything
the architect does convey a lot of important info, the problem is that it does it in a very poor way, as do all the movies whenever it comes to the lore, which is actually very interesting.
I dare anyone to say that they immediately understood that the merovingian's henchmen were fricking werewolves when they first watched reloaded
it doesn't help that a lot of important things are explained in the fricking videogames.
The two sequels are alright. Even if they are completely unnecessary.
The first movie is miles better than 2 and 3 and stands on its own story wise.
The trilogy is like: 8.5/10, 6/10, 6/10
I saw it in the cinema and 15 years later learned it was hated

Big time. Wachowskis did rip off the audience in matrix 3
3rd is pretty universally hated, second one is majority hated but some of us with real taste enjoyed it.
Redditors hated them.
A broken clock is right twice a day.
They are wrong. Hating on the Matrix sequels is distilled reddit.
i speak for everyone here, we don't like them.
fight scenes are cool, story and zion scenes are ass
>nooooooooooo Zion isn't a beautiful utopia like how I imagined it
No one expected it to be a utopia, but maybe something more creative than a giant cave filled with dancing Black folk
It was pretty bad though. Horribly structured movie. Just long bursts of talking and fighting without being spread out or leading into each other.
i do agree the fight scenes went on a bit too long but i liked the romance between neo and trinity and the fight scenes were still golden
Way too bloated, 2+3 (and EtM) could have just been edited down to one 3 hour movie
They very obviously were supposed to be one movie but the ~~*studio*~~ insisted on milking audiences twice. Fact!
Every trinity scene is kino
YEAH MORE LIKE GAYTRIX RECHOADED
It's good if you skip the first 45 minutes

I liked the 3rd one more than the second.
same. but neither should exist
The only reason Reloaded does not get the hate it deserves is because Revolutions exists. Reloaded is fricking garbage.

As a kid I thought the sequels were cooler than the first one. More fight scenes, more action overall.

I more or less wack off to that album.
