I didn't see that, I think Lancaster just saw a lot of himself in Freddie and had this bizarre relationship with him where he wanted him to be his drinking sailor buddy but also wanted to cure him of that very quality and make him his loyal little sailor subordinate
It's one of my absolute favorites, as I strongly identify with Freddie and Lancasters struggles with alcoholism and wanting to bust all day, and turning to bizarre esoteric delusions to try and deal with it. It's also one of the funniest movies I've seen personally in some absurd way. The movie makes me want to drink every time I watch it

The rest of this guys movies are kinda crap. The Master I honestly believe is genius because I think it's PTA trolling critics with his style and good actors but the most boring movie ever. Sort of a meta message and he is the cult leader character and the critics are all Jaoquin Phx. I think he intentionally made it suck to prove he is a master. There will be blood is fricking rad though in every aspect except the puzzling decision to make the brothers twins, serves no purpose except to confuse the audience.
