No. He wanted to go out as he lived. Ugly. What better way to die than by Glorbs "Hand"? Chaos. Bitter. For once in his life. No longer just hate. Fear. He "won".

    >"You scattered the dark mist that lay before your eyes and, flapping your wings, you whirled about, and throughout this world you brought pure light."
    This was Lich's prayer
    >"You scattered the dark mist that lay before your eyes and, flapping your wings, you whirled about, and throughout this world you brought pure light. For this I call you Phanes."
    this was the original version.

Ok but why is an allegorical manifestation of a nuke praying to some random chaos god?
Why did they flip flop with the lich so much? Is he a random necromancer? Is he some sort of death aligned cosmic entity that came from an asteroid? Is he the embodiment of nuclear catastophe? Is he a doomsday cultist?
Why the frick did they try to give the Lich's story a finale when it has no beginning and no end? The Lich had always been a prop in AT, a 'oh shit' event to make the stakes very high in an otherwise silly show.
Is it just because he is a fan favourite?

Just bad writing, new writers failing to respect what old writers did, showrunners trying to fit in old characters so they can use them as a jump point to be granted a new show, where they will have total reign, i.e Shermie and Beth. Not saying new writers are bad, but the show is going in the direction which will ultimately give them more control and freedom in the future. So to respect canon would be allowing themselves to be chained to previous limitation.

They simply don’t care to respect what has been laid before. It’s why adventure time is fricking shit, notice the lower cases, but it is also great by aesthetic device and story potential alone. The writers just aren’t good enough to flesh out, build, and realize the setting to its full potential. Cinemaphile does like adventure time, but fumes at all the stupidity the show gives us, because it’s just wasted effort by mediocre hacks using something grander than them to move forward their careers. Cinemaphile says it wants funny comedy single story episodes back, but if it got them today it would not be anything like old adventure time, because the energy from then is not the same as now. It’d be complete cringe identity politica San Francisco horseshit “humor”. You can see it in Fionna and Cake already.

No, all Adventure Time (notice the uppercases) really needs is better writers. But with a shitter like mutto you have to accept you will always be given failure. You could take any concept or idea this production team has used, like lesbians, or Finn struggling; you could have a thousand times better delivery if these concepts and plots were written by more mature and intelligent writers. mutto doesn’t have the capability to self reflect on why his show sucks ass, and why he’s not good enough to be a show runner in the first place. Shame, Shermie and Beth series will be absolute shit if they’re given it.

pic related, the visual representation of how intelligent the characters are written

My main problem with F&C is how meandering it is. Surely it is not the last AT related project we get. Why then try to resolve the Lich's storyline when he has absolutely nothing to do with anything going on whatsoever?
I would have liked a more high fantasy adventure with a twist sort of show, like the original AT but I can sort of buy into the new premise if they want to do something else. What I dont get is why they have to resolve both the Lich and Simon's arcs in a show that is not about them. F&C get sidelined in their own fricking show. For what? To teach us about the dangers of toxic relationships apparently. Which is an issue this very show introduced. AT Simon and Betty were not a 'teacher student' relationship and it seemed like they were of similar age with similar level of interests. It was this show that made it seem like there was some sort of imbalance. So why set that up and try to resolve it in a show that is not called Simon and Betty?
Fionna doesnt even really resolve her own arc that this show introduced and subsequently ignored of her learning how to adventure. She just gets magic juice in the finale and brute forces victory instead of actually learning how to fight. Cake has simsilarly no discernable arc in her own series. I guess Jake didnt have one either in AT but that was a flaw of AT that should have been corrected here.
And, honestly, the whole underlying theme of F&C seems to be about growing up and leaving the fantasy behind but then it turns out that Fionna doesnt really have to grow up and face the root causes of her dissatisfaction with life because it will all be magically fixed. The themes seem to be all over the place.

I agree with what you are saying, but any observation and viewer discernment about the plot means little when the show is really just about tying up loose threads and giving the show runners a way forward to their own creations. It doesn’t have to make sense, it doesn’t have to have consistency or arcs - it just has to get them from point a (the original show), to point b (their own show(s)). So it is good for them if they can wrap up a plot hole or idea, but they don’t care when they break something, or worse, aren’t good enough to realize when they do. All the ideas and concepts, even the “lesbians” and F&C would be great if they were written by non-hacks who could write it out proper. I personally don’t care about many of their ideas (lesbians), but I would be more cordial to the writers if they were actually making their stuff good. This is a lot like Rick and Morty where there is unlimited potential, and it’s squandered by losers with personal vendettas, political insinuations, and narcissism. Cheers.

What didn't you like about The Halls of Egress and Jerry anon?

              Anonymous

Hall of Egress was pretty good, but that’s also because it didn’t involve any other characters except as devices to get Finn isolated. If the entire story revolves around Finn being introspective, why would they feel the need to introduce any malice against him? It’s one of their best nu-episodes for the sole reason of having no personal attachments to other characters which they then see as priority, which they offload their misery, politics, and donutsteel onto, destroying any semblance of acuity or nuance that could have been. With “Jerry”, because of the aforementioned reasons, the writers fail to be able to develop him due to a serious requirement of protecting donutsteel characters they personally love (Betty), and so they hamfisted away any kind of true finality with an action that simply got rid of him the fastest. If they had taken their time, developed and fleshed out scenes, even if he says nothing at all in them, and then he becomes a brick anyway, this would still be executed much more respectfully, and it would feel right. He can be a brick, that’s fine. In fact he really shouldn’t have said much at all, he can be sad, that’s fine. But nuance of visual accentuation to what he is going through, just focusing on his breathing, his lament over having nothing now, it would likely be much more powerful.

It’s difficult to describe through text what I want to convey, but just understand that the writers could have had any and every camera angle, as long or as little of a timing to each scene as they want, and as much or as little dialogue, as much or as little exposition. The writers simply cannot deliver something powerful, and so instead of Adventure Time, we got advtime. It’s especially apparent in the later seasons, and even subtly there as a constant through every season. Hope that makes more sense.

Also, I am aware the lich may not breathe. It’s just an example of the writers limitations to go from cheap to meaningful.

to the ppl saying "The lich was ruined" I'm gonna assume you forgot that him being "the last scholar of golb" was a major part of his character

We dont even know what that means, nobody knows what the frick golb does or what he is. Being "the last scholar of golb" was something they tacked on to the Lich at the very end of AT to try and give him some sort of characterization. But the title is meaningless.
