That's another thing. Lost 2006 character but it doesn't represent the autistic 14yo who hypothetically drew it, it has to be 19 because zoomzooms are terrified of being 'paedo'. i know the archetype, they typically call everyone a racist pedo and are obsessed with pathetic moral standards that limit free speech and make it impossible to hold any real conversation. aside from my bf and a few close friends i generally prefer talking to people a little older than me if they like the same things.

i am a zoomer myself (ugh! i know!) but i do wanna say not all of us are bad, there's some diamonds in the ruff like myself and like, yah.

Zoomers are now at the point where millenials were in the 2010s, calling themselves "90's kids" while only having barely a memory about the 90's due to being born DURING the 90's.

I was born in 2000, so I have a vague recollection of what it was like, but much of my memory of stuff like anime culture or deviantart or stuff like that is mostly relegated to jokes about it moreso than the actual content itself. By 2010 (when I actually went on the internet for the first time) much of it had been beaten to death and parodied to death so that the only thing I really got to experience was the parodies and not the genuine article. I imagine this was a similar experience for most kids born between '99 and '05. But the few genuine things I do remember (stuff like Haruhi obsessions), I remember thinking how fun it must have been and wanting to have been a teen a little earlier so I could've experienced it myself.
I personally am lucky I'm autistic enough to unironically read shit on Lurkmoar and ED to try and catch up on what I missed, but even then, I can never really go back to how it was. I only know what people said it was, not what it actually was. And a lot of it is lost to time.

i was born in 1999, i have a memory loss brain thingy so i dont remember a ton from my childhood but i do love to rewatch a lot of cartoons from the 2000s for the nostalgia, and would consider myself a "2000s kid" based on that.

i think in a lot of ways we are living in a dystopian future where everything sucks and is bland and overly politically correct and like it blows mega chunks but could explain why so many people are nostalgic, why 2000s media is always getting remade now, etc. nobody really wants to be old, right?

If we're making a comparison, Lacey's series uses a bigger and more diverse range of tools to scare the viewer and I'm a sucker for breaking your format and changing the visuals, that's always a thrill. Nia's series is much more plain in this regard, I don't even think half the episodes are trying to be horror (which makes it all the more frustrating to see it discussed so fervently in horror circles).

So you're saying Fargo is part of that moronic definition because of the "based on a true story" tagline at the beginning? You're trying to solve a problem that already has a solution.

                Anonymous

What sort of argument is that? No Fargo doesn't count because its presented as a movie, that's where its reality begins and ends.
If you want an unfiction movie look at the Blair Witch Project, on top of the movie it had the website and fake newsreels its immersion went beyond the movie.

Just call Blair Witch found footage, the term doesn't sound moronic and it describes the type of thing it is much better. No need to try and reinvent the wheel with stupid meme terms like one of those gays that separate genres based on "punk" permutations.

I feel so bad for the local 58 creator, everyone aped his style so now what was once a special unique channel is now passé.

To be fair, it's not like there was one particular style back in the '00s, as you had numerous artists from completely different backgrounds with their own inspirations.
Some games decided to go with a more Rayman-esque body type, but it's not like, say, Chaos Faction looks anything similar to the Madness series, which looks anything at all like Papa Louie.
Three Angled Blue did not look like Gonzossm, Exotworking did not look like Felix Colgrave, etc, etc.
What's really interesting is finding abandoned art sites from the earlier half of the 2000s. There was one site where most of the art on it was either crappy anime doodles, crappy doodles, and crappy tracings of others art, and for the life of me, I can't find the website as I don't remember what it was called.

I think what's throwing you off is the color palette and that the art looks a bit too clean, with the color palette more so resembling that sort of "tumblr" look that you mentioned, having a very pastel, light, washed out sort of look, when a lot of the art from around the time had a more saturated or colorful look with few exceptions, while the line art is too thin and too clean, when it should probably have a bit more of an unkempt squiggly look with thicker outlines.

The biggest red flag is honestly that it's actually drawn in a tablet. An average DA Fanartist wouldn't afford such luxuries around that time and would scan her own doodles.

also the hair color and the dress style doesn't match with the overall mid 00's weeaboo aesthetics. That's way too orderly which is another red flag.

Anyway, if anyone's been wondering how it actually looked like around "that time", here's a reference drawing way back from 2005. Treat it with care as this stuff is incredibly rare to find nowadays.

Armor Trigger 1, 2, and 3 have a similar aesthetic.

no surprise as it literally belongs to that era but also retains some of the earlier 00's Newgrounds aesthetic. still nice catch.

Of course not. Making even the most barebones Flash-style game would take 2-3 hours of effort learning to follow a coding cookbook. It's much easier to make all of your assets and slap them together in a slideshow, immersion be damned.

I think you are right, a lot of what younger people remember of the 00's is a bit bastardized. But I think it says something that they are so eager to remember and cherish it.

People like us that remember that time should take care to write a better history about it, share that knowledge with them so they can keep it and pass it on. As easy as it is to get mad at them, they are our future. Might as well make the most of them actually giving a crap about the past.

you absolutely right about this it better the we guide younger people who eager about 00's to learn about it, to understand the what it was like.

Not that anon, but what you described is really accurate. I grew up during that time and Youtube and Google images were the gateway to learning about that era's internet landscape. Yeah that's real run of the mill, and a generic way of finding shit out but I was skeptical of ruining the computer. I remember being amazed by finding cool Pokemon art after sifting through shitty looking Deviantart fetish material that then gave way to Pokemon image macros which I learned were memes and Pokemon parody videos that were reuploaded from Newgrounds. Older memes were stuff I had to look up and get. Knowyourmeme helped a lot, much to the chagrin of this site but using that site helped in actually getting what shit meant. Imagine trying to find "funny jokes" for the time and being bombarded with inflation porn on deviantart...yeah times change but sometimes it remains largely the same. I blame ThunderLOLcats for this. That shitty MAD segment was weirdly a huge catalyst. It led to me playing minecraft, watching Youtube a lot more and finding channels that got me into anime and a lot of other stuff. That all spiralled into arriving here.
I guess what I mean by saying all that is it doesn't matter how you get to a certain point, it's about how well you understand something and what it means now. How it can be replicated or substituted depends on how much you know and the reality of people's tastes now. I think Nia is better because it has a firmer grasp on the aesthetic and shows more restraint in some aspects.

my artstyle draws from the millenials but I wish I could draw from them even more. Unfortunately all search on Deviantart is scuffed as hell and overloaded with crappy AI art that makes it even worse.
And we still have no clue why the frick did they think that Eclipse was even a good thing or what delusion did they get to think people even wanted this.
The fricking hate was blaring in your face. Why didn't you revert it???
