I think TBG works better in the movie format, it's a style that benefits from big stories and set pieces. That said, I could also see a sequel animated series working, kind of like the Maraschino Ruby short, where the gang is trying to do good and be heroes but they're hampered by Misty who keeps suspecting them of secretly going back to being criminals.

Yeah, they also did a good job of keeping Diane and Marmalade's roles a secret. The meteorite isn't in any of the trailers, and while you see Diane in her jumpsuit a few times, the dialog referring to the Crimson Paw is absent.

I used to have a supervisor that I swear could have been the inspiration for this character, right down to her small feet. Added a sort of special familiarity to this movie, which was already a lot of fun.

Shoot. There’s only one sketch of her in that book with her finalized design. There’s some short hand sketches of her on the Bluray, but really there isn’t a lot of official art of her. (I have a feeling there were some risqué pics they didn’t want to show, like the topless tarantula model that was omitted from the book). Still, I genuinely like her design so it’s a shame there wasn’t more actual art of her released, but the official art book more thank makes you for it by explaining a lot of their creative processes, and thoughts behind the art style.

I appreciate you posting, I have a signed art book as well. Love how informative it is, but Diane’s section is painfully lacking when compared to the other characters. Considering the lead artists were French, I’m guessing a lot of sketches were cut though. I imagine some parents would be pretty unhappy if they saw gesture drawings alone and weren’t familiar with what they are used for.
I appreciate that the writers and animators didn’t treat Misty being big and strong as a joke, the humor is in how fricking crazy she can be. She’s a tough girl but also surprisingly cute, and her being tall and muscular doesn’t detract from her femininity.
