I love Superman, but does anyone else feel like a lot of Superman content lately (really from the 90s to now) has a lot of pretentious self-importance? Like, instead of attempting to sell a cool adventure story like Superman is known for, they choose to lecture on why Superman is such a Very Important Superhero? I’m not the only one who sees this, right?
Superman thinks he's Megamind
I wouldn't really say that was a thing so much in the 90s, that was Triangle Era Superman, not really very pretentious and self-important back then. The most you could say was the death, funeral and return stories being treated like such a big deal, but it's because they were.
Post the original, not the edit
I’ll admit the amount of Superman worship can be very obnoxious in mainstream DC. They even inserted that shit into the SSKTJL game.
There’s no such thing as entertainment, just programming.
Did you wnjoy that little dance around the question? Now if you could dance your way back to Metropolis there's a fricking tidal wave about to hit the city and since Aquaman is a father now, You are LITERALLY the only one who can stop it. You like quotes huh?
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. Know who said that? A superhero that does his fricking job. Now go.
>A superhero that does his fricking job
A superhero with a massive guilt complex*
Still does his job.
I see you haven't been reading ASM
I'd rather have a hero with a guilt complex than an egotistically butthole
#1 since day 1 bud
Real
looks like he's walking his dog.
Why was he Superman anyway?
anyone got the 3 doors down kryptonite edit?
>most iconic superhero in history gets some dumb wanky stories
>this is the end of the world
At least he actually is a Very Important Hero. They try the same thing all the time with nobodies like America Chavez.
Who are you quoting?
Superman: Grounded was fricking terrible even before JMS bailed.
They need to justify why Superman is the best because he really is a boring character.
That guy was asking a perfectly reasonable question, and Superman's "rebuttal" didn't address any of it. What exactly does Superman's dumb historical anecdote about Henry Thoreau have to do with why he is going on a pointless walk instead of doing something productive with his powers and time?
I think he's basically trying to say: "why don't YOU go out there and be a hero?" Except that this doesn't work since that guy is just a random civilian, not a walking demigod like Superman. Not to mention that it still doesn't explain why he's going out on a walk.
It's worse when you notice that he decided to go for a walk with the suit on, I mean, come on man, you were asking for it!
Didn't Superman decide to go on a walkabout because a woman yelled at him that he didn't cure her husband's brain tumor or something?
Yeah, Henry Thoureau went to prison (for only a few days) due to not paying his taxes because he was morally against slavery and the Mexican-American war, nothing to do with going on a long pointless walk.
Most modern writers are marvel fan boys and basically like Superman because of the 1978 movie
Big2 capeshit superheroes were always pretentious.
No they weren’t
I really like the aggressively flat art style of Curt Swan.
Curt and Ogden Whitney (herbie fat fury) are the masters of whatever this art style is called
Superman acts as Optimus Prime in this Adult Swin sketch.

It is the problem of turning your character into a god, then you have to constantly justify why he is not saving the world, but it never works and it is worse after Superman All Star, where it is shown that he was always able to solve all the world's problems.
