I would threaten the pickle-jar with my boot. Then I would say I'm going to break every one of the cryocapsules.

Also a little plot hole for me is the 32 clean-up. Who the frick had the time to tidy up everything so well and quickly? If there are only a few defrosted vault techs, they didn't have the work-hours to do it. If the guards are involved it changes the whole conspiracy, somebody would eventually talk.
Why didn't they repopulate it sooner, because leaving it abandoned created the security breach in the first place.

They don't really explain it. Seems to be a mish mash of crops died, chaos ensued and the raiders showing up but they don't really line up with each other. I think there's an implication with muh water chip that the dad was taking the limited water for vault 33 leaving 32 to die but it's all very sloppy

        Anonymous

        >and the raiders showing up
nah, I don't think that plays into it
They said that the last bio sign was like 2 years ago, so it's just been abandoned all that time or something

Which is pretty weird, and almost plot holey
that they'd just let 32 be dead and empty all that time, but then welcome in the raiders like they don't know 32 is already gone

The vault 31 people are very obviously hiding information about 32. Or simply the vaults don't communicate with each other all that often, could be part of their test, or thats what they were told maybe.

          Anonymous

the stickler for me is when they meet each other the dad mentions having correspondence with 32 and hearing their crops were blighted. If 32 has been long fricked then the correspondence only makes sense if it was coming from the raiders but unless the raiders were in 32 for years there'd be no one to correspond with. And he's presumably not in on it since he doesn't know they're raiders

            Anonymous

they probably dont trade for years. The people trade makes no sense if they were doing it every year.
            They'd become overpopulated.

Theres also a possibility 32 was deliberately culled due to overpopulation.

              Anonymous

I get that I'm just talking about communications, not the people trading. Unless the idea is they only communicate come trade time which I guess works but isn't made clear

i think the communication is far apart, they aren't really suppose to be interacting being independent self sufficient vaults.

The Vault 31 brain probably didn't hear anything for a while from 32's Overseer and assumed things were going just fine. He doesn't seem to be able to monitor the goings-on of the other vaults without being informed via the computer link.

Some of them figured out they were being controlled by Vault 31 and it caused them to rebel against their overseer in a blood civil war where nearly all of them died. Then the last few remaining survivors committed suicide (via fork in toaster).

There are defenately experiments that haven't been fully explained. I don't think the Vault 31 people running the vaults is an experiment as much as just a reward for the prewar people. BUT i think 32/33 have Experiments that run in parallel to that.

Huh... I get that's the purpose you make out of it with the information you have, but then...
Why the frick wouldn't you cryo some willing teens, and maybe wake up ONE guy every now and then to check out that everything is in one piece (that can apparently happen), and then he can just get back to sleep after checking the surface (that can apparently happen) instead of going on the epicycle of
          >slowly depleting the managment team
          >slowly depleting supplies
          >creating a society that lives in hopes of a lie
          >that could rebel and try to nuke everyone in their sleep (that can apparently happen)
          >that could may as well be raised to protect the pods
You do realize that if you have two societies of 20 people, in 200 years, or 4000 years, the genepool is exactly the same as having those 40 people in cryo pods, right?

    >Vault

    >Interesting
After the Vault gets invaded by raiders some are left alive in the Vault, and the show presents a moral quandary what to do about them, do they look after them, educate them or kill them, with Norm being ONLY ONE to openly voice his opinion that killing them is on the table. Betty even warns him about the "power of words", clearly indicating that they could be use for benefit or against the person saying them. Later he's put on duty to feed them. And by the end of the of the season the raiders were killed off-screen via poison, not only unceremoniously removing any morality from the situation the show itself created, but also no one suspected Norm, the one guy who openly put the option on the table and one of few people who definitely could've done that, feeding them was his job. Even if S2 does touch up on that, then the entire moral dilemma about keeping raiders was just superflous regardless. And Betty, instead of trying to pin it on Norm, just decides to split the Vault in 2, which she can't do, because at best Vaults 32 and 33 have only one working water chip, which still puts Vault 33 in unfavorable position who would need to trade for water every time they run out of it making mass migration only viable option altogether. Unless the show just forgot about water chip.

And a small side-note, how did Betty clean up Vault 32?

  23. 2 weeks ago

    >The crop blight and water chip "malfunctioning" are examples of this.
Examples of what? Even within your premise, are you suggesting that Vault 32 was killed by crop blight because they just weren't brightest enough or were they being deliberately starved to death? Like, are you suggesting they are throwing challenges their way to overcome or to kill, and even within that premise why would Vault 32 just start killing each other over that premise (Norm and Chet literally point out how they looked like they were killing each other). And within that premise, are you suggesting that someone deliberately broke Vault 33's water chip, does that mean that Vault 32's is also broken or someone will break it once Chet and the rest settle in to cull the weak?

You created more questions than fricking show did.

      Same
I posted my take on it:
The vault plot uncovers something each episode, the info unveils steadily and the mistery keeps you hooked
On contrast, the scientist plot is a mindless macguffin chase "We just gotta get the scientist ok??" for 7 hours and 45 minutes where the head doesn't really mattter at all and everyone can get it equally, there's no stakes or reasons as to why some faction should have it or not.
And then we find out the thing is the most important thing on the planet for 5 minutes, and I still don't know who should have the cold fusion or not
