Not really, since the moment he was let off the leash the show plummeted in quality.

Now we have that hindsight, but at the beginning, he had just came off of the beloved Spectacular Spider-Man.

the premise was fun but it turned into a super melodramatic dcau both abandoning its premise and having like half of the interesting shit you'd want to see happen off screen during some shitty time skip

That's because it stopped being good after the second season. All the continuations of it absolutely ruined the show.

The writing and voice acting has been the same all four seasons. The only thing that objectively plummeted was the animation quality due to WB being cheap. Maybe this show was only hyped due to it having decent animation with DTV-tier character designs and art style instead of having to stylize them.

DTV? As in Disney TV or DC tv

Yeah I actually liked the 1st season quite a bit. But I can't remember much of Season 2.

The best thing about the show was the character development. After the first 2 seasons it is basically non-existent and constantly introducing new characters.

I'm not sure why but I've never been a fan. Something about it just didn't appeal to my kid self, maybe because it was so serious? I did watch Season 2 though, because Black Beetle was tight and that scientist was hot.

I remember when i was a kid and saw it for the first time. Even then i thought it wasn't that good and wanted Teen Titans back or even the Justice League cartoon. I had watched the first season in full years later on streaming and enjoyed it. And then i got to season 2 and couldn't go past episode 1. And looking back it seems like it was a good choice.

The first season had several running plotlines, but they properly handled them as A and B plots, with hints of C every so often. The slow addition of members to the Team allowed their plots to play out organically, with the mole plot and the three "teen troubles" plots all eventually culminating together in a pretty great full victory for the Team, and then a chance to face off against their mentors to prove themselves just as capable of being heroes.
The timeskip ruined the format for a lot of people, since it ballooned the cast, which meant less focus on individual characters, introducing even more new ones as we went, and generally not much development time to go around. They also don't manage to sneak in many "teen troubles" plots, except I guess the break up, and eventually the Outsiders plot as troubled, runaway kids. But that also never got much of a resolution. They skateboarded into the sunset and then, I guess, just eventually went home or something.

The later seasons were terribly animated so even when there were neat ideas and concepts they fell flat. There's a few standouts, and the overall theme of, "the Team is covert to protect the young members... but also it's becoming our black-ops team and things are getting sorta fricked up as a result," was a fun concept that kept showing up. I like the series, but honestly Weismann has had eyes too big for his stomach for years.

S1 had a lot of the issues from the beginning

Besides the Megan mindrape-based romance and the eternal Light keikaku, there were some weird decisions like making Rocket a team member like an episode before the finale

Some people wanted more of Justice League, some people thought it'd be the new version of Teen Titans.

it ended up just being garbage.

I liked the first season, everything after sucked. Time skips are always terrible.

the appeal was holy shit can we have a more serious teen titans kinda show? with greg weisman's keikaku writing? that'll be amazing
    and it was
then it got the uncancellation STD and came back woker than a pig covered in glitter. Not even just political shit, but people's mannerisms, attitudes, demeanors... all sanitized and perfectly PC and comfortable. The moment they were like "you kids need adult heroes as chaperones, you can't just live in this cool house together by yourselves" I wanted to puke.

It filled the hole Teen Titans left in its first season, then pivoted to filling the hole left by the DCAU in its second season.
Then it got canceled because of macro scale marketing strategies and the mythology its fans made around it gave the creative team massive egos coming into the continuation.
