As nothing of an episode as it was, I feel like the recent episode might have been backtracking on this audience-mockery some, what with the Frick You's bit, where the mockery was instead directed at the concept of a business being "charmingly" hostile to its customers.

They may poke fun at the fans but anyone paying attention knows they actually listen and are still trying to recover their footing.

This applies to most things not just Rick and Morty but the fact is the vast majority of people adore fast talking quips. And the problem is that this is a substitute for being funny or intelligent. Quips are fine if they are funny or smart but they aren't anymore, they hide behind their speed and hope (successfully) that the audience is too slow and stupid to notice. In the past this was basically what lolrandom was. lolrandom was fine when it was both smart and funny but it just isn't anymore.
Another issue is the fact nobody is actually watching shows anymore. Most have it on as background noise so the quips have even greater weight.
Some people wonder why the frick sr pelo gets so much attention. And the reason is because he's actually making a cartoon that is lolrandom and quippy but actually contains the smarts and humor that is lacking in something like Rick and Morty. You actually have to watch sr pelo's cartoon to get the full breadth of it, but with Rick and Morty most viewers only consume half of it: the visuals or the audio. But it wouldn't matter if they actively watched the episodes because it's just shit all around. It's fine if you don't like sr pelo's cartoons but the fact is from a sheer mechanical standpoint it's a vastly superior product than Rick and Morty and the people who give a frick about quality can see that.
