On its own its pretty good, up until the wiping out humanity shit starts, and the annoying fricking kid. Then you compare it to the original. They're pretty on par, again up until the wiping out humanity shit. Changing things from "You better chill the frick out and not bring a fight to us or we WILL turn your planet into a cinder" into "We're just gonna kill you because nice planets are rare, and we'd use it better" is just idiotic. The originals message is much more ominous
I was entertained, but it wasn't something to talk to your friends about.
Yeah, times changed. No longer did we have a nuclear scare.
My dad likes to tell me a story about how after the atom bomb was dropped, the nations military bases were all switched off by an unknown force. He says aliens, or God, was watching and was making a point that they will be stopped if they try to destroy the world. He says the aliens were like "OH, the kids found the matches."
I know you didn't ask, but I wanted to share a story of my dad.
I was like 11 when I first saw the trailer for this movie and thought it was an adaptation of Earthbound which I'd only played for maybe an hour at that age

I like it, its a decent sci fi flick, what I hated was the kid and him being moronic, the entire plot could have moved by without that kid.
Keanu and his acting in it is the best part. Let that sink in.
(only part other than that which I like is the vague Evangelion-evoking scenes, the nog kid completely ruins it though)
The ending still bothers me to this day. How the frick are humans going to survive without technology? Billions are going to die already without modern agriculture, and even if we stabilize ourselves enough there won't be any possible advancement in civilization anymore.
Just proves old movie ideas are trash when you actually think about them.
No it proved that old movies had good ideas but poor technology, and modern movies are the opposite, even when using old good ideas

Love these guys
What movie?
Day the earth stood still.
I like it, its a decent sci fi flick, what I hated was the kid and him being moronic, the entire plot could have moved by without that kid.
The McDonald’s scene was gripping. Just around the time McCafe launched
>fate of the earth decided at McDonald's
just like in real life
Anon, klaatu barada nikto
been quite a few years since my last rewatch
thanks for reminding me
Never realized there was a remake. Any good?
Cinemaphile doesn't discuss good movies.
no

I saw this shit in the theater
I'm so sorry, anon
I like the scene where Klaatu hears Bach and starts changing his mind about humanity due to the sheer beauty of our music.
The ending still bothers me to this day. How the frick are humans going to survive without technology? Billions are going to die already without modern agriculture, and even if we stabilize ourselves enough there won't be any possible advancement in civilization anymore.
>How the frick are humans going to survive without technology?
They might start giving real, meaningful work to people
>How the frick are humans going to survive without technology?
Not. My. Problem
>expect giant robot action
>get swarm of nanobots
Still mad
i liked the john cleese part, he was the only one to get through to the alien
