i dunno if that's the way i'd describe the difference between the two. emo is definitely what OP is describing, complaining about the miseries of their life - goths are happy, but not out of some pretentious idea that the world is stupid and they're not. rather, being goth is just about liking "dark" stuff. there's no misery attached, because they just enjoy it. you like horror stories? then you're a goth. you like dark and macabre stuff. that's it.
that's just another misconception, that goths "hate being alive" or that they're consumed by hatred. again - being a goth is all about what you DO like. no misery should be attached, unless it's a goth that just likes stories with misery in it or something. there's nothing wrong with being a goth, dark shit's pretty cool. is the goth trend annoying? yeah, but mostly because people don't actually know what a goth really is. goths aren't mopey shits, and it certainly isn't just "dressing in black" or "looking super serious".

yeah, it's why i dislike the modern trend of "being goth" - it's built solely on the aesthetic and nothing on actually being a goth or liking dark stuff. it annoys me too, so i completely get it. vastly prefer someone who's actually a goth but dresses in light clothes over someone who dresses goth but doesn't actually care about this stuff. i do also appreciate you for actually listening and paying attention to all the honest points other anons and i have made about the topic
