I think it's safe to say Star Wars is finally a dead franchise. The only people who care are the hardcore old fans and the ones who dick ride everything Disney does. There is no popular appeal to Star Wars like there used to be.
It's not like it used to be though. A lot of people caught on that Disney Wars is dogshit and found other media to consume. George knew how to keep the excitment going.
the disney fan crowd is inauthentic and uncool, so it's going to be diminishing returns from here. It's quite the opposite of being some inexhaustible well of enthusiasm. the idea that Star Wars branding could just print money forever regardless of quality just seems silly now.
Anything that isn't the culmination films like Avengers that targets the general audience or all demographics is narrowcast toward specific demographics.
Single men that have gone on from college or think they're good at their career are targeted by Dr. Strange.

Nobody is meant to watch every capeshit movie.
i mean i grew up with star wars and played games read books watched a new hope a thousand times got figures and then trashed all of that after the force awakens
star wars died when geriatric harrison ford showed up
i havent watched or cared about anything star wars after it since
but yet somehow my normie dude bro inlaw somehow has came to like star wars and likes the mandalorian and stuff when im sure he thought that was all geeky stuff when younger
so i dont know it just shifted appeal from nerd to normies
They'll probably announce and release a new trilogy with all new characters after the Rapture IRL that has wholesome brainwashing that people will actually benefit from
it has, it's just that the internet has made it so people don't need to tie their identity to a few big franchises. Fandom communities exist in great numbers for everything.
It's sad to see Star Wars fall down this path, but you can't get away with putting out soulless trash in this era. It's not inspiring to new generations, the only people still care about Star Wars are millennial boomers+
>prequelkiddies
Prequels were 20 years ago, they aren't kids anymore. The people who grew up with the original trilogy are too worried about making it to retirement to care about anything.

don't bother, ot tards believe that because the movie was the most mature thing they'd seen when they were 7 that means the prequels were overly sanitized when they were 30
meanwhile they will ignore shit in the prequels like jango getting his head lopped off on screen or anakin getting burned alive just because jar jar had two shit jokes that have about 10 seconds of screen time total

>why do that when there are much better works of fantasy available outside this derelict franchise?
The worst thing is that I've seen some good Star Wars stories in other media. The games with Kyle Katarn from Dark Forces and Jedi Knight. The Dark Empire and Journals of Obi-Wan comics. The Kenobi and the Thrawn books. They're not exceptional, but at least I had the feeling of wasting my time reading or playing. Maybe there are more good things in the franchise, but I have the feeling that I've already found the best
>This idiot in the cowboy hat should just be the lore consultant and nothing more.
He shouldn't even be that. There's a story about how Sam Witwer on day one of working with Filoni had to correct him because Filoni thought Shmi and Padme never met while they were halfway through making the episode at that point.
>There's a story about how Sam Witwer on day one of working with Filoni had to correct him because Filoni thought Shmi and Padme never met while they were halfway through making the episode at that point
And I won't doubt it. I really liked that first Clone Wars animation that came out on Cartoon Network. They were short episodes, with almost no dialogue and the best action I've ever seen in Star Wars. Fun stuff. When I heard that a new Clone Wars animation would come out and the pilot would be shown in the cinema, I thought it would be in the same style. I was one of the few idiots who went to the see in 2008. Everything was worse than the previous animation. Ahsoka was such an insufferable brat, apparently you start to like her after 3 seasons. And based on what I saw in her series, it seems like nothing can be saved from her
I'm not particularly a fan of Jon Favreau (Elf, Iron Man 1, Chef and Jungle Book are good, nothing else), but he pulled off a miracle. In the most troubled time of Star Wars in recent decades (between Ep VIII and IX) he launched a series with only original characters and disconnected from the Skywalkers plot. The Mandalorian was a breath of fresh air. It was a simple, fun adventure of the week, nothing more than that. Maybe the bar was pretty low from the latest productions and internet chaos, but I can't say it wasn't something welcome
But something happened in the second season.
Each episode featured a classic or animated character. Cobb Vanth, Bo-Katan, Ahsoka, Thrawn (mentioned), Boba Fett and, finally, Luke Skywalker and R2-D2. Now that simple plot was tied up with these several non-original characters. Literally the season's post-credit scene was a teaser for the Book of Boba Fett. It's easy to blame Kennedy for trying to force a Mandoverse, but I'll blame Filoni
This idiot in the cowboy hat should just be the lore consultant and nothing more. But each season and series that passed (apart from Andor) he added his animated favorites. Now the entire future of Star Wars productions has made it necessary for you to have watched 7 seasons of Clone Wars and 4 of Rebels. 208 fricking episodes (excluding Resistance and Bad Batch)
Ahsoka was an OK series at most, it has its good moments (especially the soundtrack), but the acting, choreography and dialogue were terrible. But any and all criticisms you make, Filonists will say that everything is justifiable if you have watched the animations. They consider any fan who hasn't watched Filoni's animations to be casual. As if nothing between Heaven and Earth has been produced with the minimum quality with Star Wars in any media. I owe an apology to Rian Johnson's fans, I think I've been very unfair to them all this time
The early TV shows seem alright until you go and watch The Empire Strikes Back and remember how high the bar once stood. As far as I'm concerned, if it isn't as good as ANH and TESB then it isn't good enough. You can lower your standards to make things like Book of Boba more palatable, but why do that when there are much better works of fantasy available outside this derelict franchise?

Does anyone have that pic of the star wars required reading, where the prequels was shit like Aristotle and Hoppe and the sequels had Harry Potter etc.
>dead franchise
>legion of braindead zealots who will love whatever slop you churn out
Pick one

When people see how subversive the original 6 were, they will be grateful for its death.
We'll see. I've seen scores of fanatics who are utterly obsessed with Mandalorian shit
I agree with him, as a counter point to your observations think of how unstoppable marvel was 3 years ago even compared to now
True. 5 years ago I would've told you that Marvel is too big to fail

why? those are not mutually exclusive.

???
The current happenings involving global shakeups, whatever you want to call it.
It's not dead because it hasn't been replaced.
it has, it's just that the internet has made it so people don't need to tie their identity to a few big franchises. Fandom communities exist in great numbers for everything.

They are fans of franchises, not the actual IP of the franchise. They didn't start watching Bond until it became a Craig series instead of the serial.
I love Star Wars, but frick Disney. I don't consider it as canon
>hardcore old fans
>dick ride everything Disney does
what.
Ironically, the only people who still care about star wars are prequelkiddies.
Don't ever post this cringe again.
Four doesn't work.
>prequelkiddies
Prequels were 20 years ago, they aren't kids anymore. The people who grew up with the original trilogy are too worried about making it to retirement to care about anything.
>Prequels were 20 years ago, they aren't kids anymore.
Yes, they were people who were kids when the prequels came out. Hence, prequelkiddies.
The OT was for kids at the time as well dumbass. They are originalkiddies I guess?
Most grew out of star wars, and now, as adults, don't watch every Disney+ show.
What is your point? I grew up with the prequels and never watched anything since the Disney buyout.
Yet here you are, desperate for everything star wars.
>The OT was for kids at the time as well dumbass.
This lie needs to stop being believed.
Kids weren't homogenized by Disney yet. Kids had the stomach for it back then.
>a blink-and-you-miss-it shot
Please. They're never mentioned again and Luke moves on quickly.

if by that you mean braindead fanboys
multiple movies, tv shows, games, books, comics are in development
It was announced recently that a lot of those are being cancelled.
Saved by ((their)) inherent miserliness.

Says the very nervous man for the 5000th time in the span of 23 years.
Does anyone have that pic of the star wars required reading, where the prequels was shit like Aristotle and Hoppe and the sequels had Harry Potter etc.
Its been dead since George sold it.
It's been dead since 2014.
