does this movie still filter people?
Yes, but it's not a big accomplishment to filter 2024 Cinemaphile
I always liked it, never understood the hate.
People dislike it?
i know some plebs dislike it because "nobody is likeable" but i guess this is less of a thing on Cinemaphile
>"nobody is likeable"
This was my favorite scene.
>some dude is in your closet
>shoot that fricker in the head
You invade a mans' home, you better be prepared to die.
Good thing he wasn’t hiding in the basement.
Malkovich and the dad from Step Brothers were both very likable
i wasn't always a manager4 at hardbodies, you know ...
INTRUDER STOP
INTRUDER STOP
Everyone was likeable though. Even Clooney somehow.
Oh except Tilda. But that's was purposeful.
He really put his heart in that frick chair
Such a brainlet complaint
2 of the dumbest complaints ever about any piece of media are
>there was nobody to root for
>it didn't have a point
some people want someone to root for. nothing wrong with that. not everyone enjoys displays of nihilism.
cautionary tales are not nihilistic, in fact, quite the opposite
honestly depends on the film.
I can understand and respect if someone prefers that but if you’re unable to enjoy a movie without a “likable” protagonist to “root for” then you’re just an idiot, plain and simple.
they think it's a schwinn
They think it's a Schwinn
IM BACK YOU FRICKERS!
You have a drinking problem
You’re a fricking Mormon!
>8 years later the globalist uniparty try to blame the Russians for the lack of their puppet Clinton's lack of popularity
>>>for the lack of their puppet Clinton's lack of popularity
Russia is not sending their best bots. Take an English course and then come back vlad.
>reeee it's a bot! It can't be real!! REEEEEE!!!!
Just like 2016.
I've heard Burn After Reading described as "No Country For Old Men with jokes."
lol, that's a good description of the film. it also reminds me bit of spies like us, the old chevy chase and dan aykroyd flick
I dunno about that. I think people are just saying that because the Cohen bros were writing them both at the same time.
>I guess we learned to not do it again
The ending is my experience being a manager.
i think that's a huge part of the movie, nobody has any idea what they're doing and completely misrepresent what they think the other person is thinking or doing
everytime the dude mentions the floors i crack up, like he does it 4 times through the movie, just trying to make casual conversation and talks about the floor. who the frick talks about the floor? jesus i love this movie dude
Tuchman Marsh??
I have a theory that the Coen bros are specialized in brilliant writing for idiotic characters. A lot of their characters are dumb, or at least misguided, some naive, some cringy. Raising Arizona are two idiots stealing a baby from another idiot. Hudsucker Proxy is about an idiot that becomes head of a huge company. The Big Lebowski is about idiots fooling other idiots, throwing a ringer for another ringer and so on. And there is range of interesting attendants and cashiers and simple folk in every one of their movies. I love it.
That's just israeli culture. Life is a farce. Everyone is an ignorant clown running around like a moron. There is no benevolent god or objective perspective that breaks out of cartoonish subjectivity.
Well, I'm an atheist and I believe life to be sort of like that.
sounds pretty accurate to reality.
What book can I read about israeli culture? I'm currently reading "Europe against the israelites" but it doesn't delve into specifics other than they are hardworking and studious
No Country is about an idiot who doesn't look for trackers and an idiot who imagines a serial killer to cover for his incompetence. It really works.
No way Anton is a figment of Tommy Lee Jones' imagination
>an idiot who doesn't look for trackers
How common were they in 1980? would the average vietnam vet know about one?
A Serious Man is about a smart guy who goes through some misfortunes but his biggest misfortune is to be surrounded by idiots
He is a smart guy and he is the laughing stock of the movie. And the supposedly smartest guy who is the senior rabbi just cites Jefferson Airplaine's formation.
They are not idiots, they are selfish
I FIND IT ON THE FLOOR THERE
IT WAS JUST LYING THERE
I work with a guy exactly like this
Burn After Reading
>Goys are fricking dumb and privileged, look how they end up killing each other because they have no brains
A Serious Man
>Look how this israeli man who does everything right gets fricked over by the universe and corrupt asians
>thinks the main character of a serious man did "everything right"
how is it possible to miss the point of the movie this hard? larry is not a good man who does everything right, he is a coward in every aspect of his life. He is a coward in his job, a coward with his family, a coward with his wife, his biggest sin was inaction. He was not some noble guy who just got screwed over
He's supposed to be pious, not a coward
Baffling take. He refuses to act and whines about the consequences. When he finally does act, he commits sin, angering God who immediately punishes him. The comedic drama of his life is recontextualized as silly nonsense when faced with death and the death of his son.
"Be good." Larry looks but refuses to accept the simple truth because it isn't spoken in a "serious" manner. Even the young rabbi who tells him to appreciate the parking lot isn't wrong.
>corrupt asians
Please
Accept the mystery
True, but you're trying to explain this to actual shabbos
I really hate this stupid fricking board sometimes.
You FRICKERS I'm back
Probably the most realistic spy movie of all time.
>I thought you might be worried about the security... of your shit
This could be a great line in a comedy where a prankster reveales he gave his victim a laxative.
You got like a Gatorade or anything besides like Maryland swamp water?
wieners?
Coen bros' entire oeuvre is making fun of White Christians. I mean, they're funny and entertaining, but that doesn't change their theme and obsession with it.
Not really. Maybe in a couple movies but to call it an obsession is a huge fricking stretch
I brought this up in the Burn After Reading post last night but it's kind of interesting where the Coens often have a theme of someone betraying their code or morals and it being the moment that fricks them over completely.
A Serious Man
>accepts the bribe at the end
Burn After Reading
>pic related breaking into the dude's house after staying out of the business the entire movie
No Country For Old Men
>Josh Brolin brings water to the Mexican man
Miller's Crossing
>Tom giving pity to Turturro's character and letting him live
i'm sure there are many other examples but these are just off the top of my head
The Big Lebowski
>The Dude taking any kind of job
that's a good point. also Donny not hitting a strike right before he dies kind of ties in but is more of a bad omen i guess
