Anything until son of ogre is 100% sincere. so sincere and pure that the end result is just this weird shit because the author doesn't really cares about anything other than just making what he thinks is cool. And I mean, there are a lot of legitimate cool moments in to it, really emotional stuff about those people wanting to get stronger for their own reasons.
Baki-dou up is kinda boring because he tries too hard to achieve those things he did effortless at first. The spin-offs now are better because of that.
That isekai is so weird. Is basically a love letter to the character because were this mad he died and that entire comic is just them saying some weird goodbye.
Baki is edgy in such a sincere way.
I bring this up because Rick and Morty tries to be edgy but because it's overly self-aware and meta it comes off as try hard, also because of it's overly self aware nature most of it's edgy content id dragged out with a wink and nod to the audience letting them know that the writers are aware they're doing it on purpose.
Baki is edgy in such a good way because Itagaki isn't even trying to be edgy, he's just making whatever he wants even if it doesn't make any fricking sense.
A character in Baki dies cause it's right in the moment. Musashi in Baki is a murdering psychopath and it becomes a pressing issue in the manga. This is because Musashi was a warrior in a time of war who only knows cutting. If Rick and Morty did this, they'd bring back a random historical figure like Washington and have him randomly start killing people and be evil for no reason.

Baki's edge is that it is willing to explore the logical extremes of its premise and go so far into unironic, sincere love for this mythical poetic peak of martial arts dedication that Itagaki has imagined up that it leads to shit like two men trying to bite each other's faces off or having a guy whip another guy around like human nunchucks, and have it not be because the author is trying to be a ridiculous buttholes who is smarking at the camera going >isn't the fricking stupid? The whole beginning plot was kind of resolved, baki and yujiro fought again, grandpa yuchiro's soul showed up, revealed he was really chill, opposite of yuujiro. than yuuujiro knocked baki out but his imagination/warrior spirit/soul was still standing, ready to fight and yuujiro declared Baki the strongest.
Now it's all martial artists showing up for challenges and whatever the mangaka likes, alot of people jobbed to sumo wrestlers for a bit and one manga written by another author all but said that yujiro raped some hairy mountain climber man, but wasn't gay because his test levels are so much higher than other mammals that everyone's basically a woman to him.
