They’re just contrarians. The basement reveal showed foreshadowing and planning. That it wasn’t all just being made up as it went along. The problem with the series was having Eren become the villain. It would have been a great ending to have Eren do the rumbling and then it ends with Eren protecting his friends from the world. Instead Erens plan made no sense. And then they had him not even in control of himself that fate made him do everything. Him being a master time manipulator to become the king titan and do the rumbling would have been a very dark and satisfying ending. Who knows what eren would have done after the rumbling maybe he’d be seen as evil and made a villain or maybe he’d live as a recluse. But he needed to finish the rumbling without the Saturday morning cartoon message of Armin and friends stopping Eren because they need to try talking to the world to convince them that eldians are not monsters. I couldn’t stand Armin. Ever since he did that stupid speech in season 1 where he convinced the army that Eren was not a titan. He was so annoying in the show. The most childish cartoon morality. Too bad Erwin had to be sacrificed instead.

Game of Thrones of anime, started so strong and about half way through went completely sideways and never recovered, kept nosediving til it finally ended catastrophically.

I always got the impression that Eren did resent Mikasa's clinginess, and Armin's obsession with Annie was a problem. But anyway, that has nothing to do with Eren's motives for the Rumbling. I don't really get how people had a visceral reaction to what were obvious story beats that have been done a million times before in other stories or how they genuinely expected the story to go any other direction, I have to assume it's a babby's first anime moment when I hear people getting so upset about it.

The problem with the series was having Eren become the villain. It would have been a great ending to have Eren do the rumbling and then it ends with Eren protecting his friends from the world. Instead Erens plan made no sense. And then they had him not even in control of himself that fate made him do everything. Him being a master time manipulator to become the king titan and do the rumbling would have been a very dark and satisfying ending. Who knows what eren would have done after the rumbling maybe he’d be seen as evil and made a villain or maybe he’d live as a recluse. But he needed to finish the rumbling without the Saturday morning cartoon message of Armin and friends stopping Eren because they need to try talking to the world to convince them that eldians are not monsters. I couldn’t stand Armin. Ever since he did that stupid speech in season 1 where he convinced the army that Eren was not a titan. He was so annoying in the show. The most childish cartoon morality. Game of Thrones of anime, started so strong and about half way through went completely sideways and never recovered, kept nosediving til it finally ended catastrophically.

Their interactions are awful with no chemistry at all and with Eren never showing even an ounce of interest in her. By the end of the arc there's literally a what if scenario of what could have been if Mikasa had answer at the camp, that what if fanfic was a great conclusion for their ludicrous romantic relationship. It seems you are conflating two different things. The table scene was Eren's way of emotionally distancing himself from Mikasa and Armin because he knew what was about to go down. Although at the end I was hoping that Eren was serious and trying to force Mikasa and Eren to confront their weaknesses. I always got the impression that Eren did resent Mikasa's clinginess, and Armin's obsession with Annie was a problem. But anyway, that has nothing to do with Eren's motives for the Rumbling. He wanted to protect his friends from the outside enemy, and he also wanted to wipe the world clean as it did not resemble the fantasy that he build up in his head. He visualized freedom as a world of boundless vistas untouched by human humans. Then he realizes the rest of the world is just an extension of borders, hatred and shitty politics.

I didnt think it was that bad really. Though Eren loving Misaka and all that seemed really out of nowhere. He never once gave an impression that he had an attraction to her the entire show. Had he had maybe 2-3 scenes implying such previ9usly, it would have been better. As it stands though Mikasa is obsessed with him and he doesnt seem to notice or care for the whole show.

30 year old boomer here, maybe it's just because I wasn't a superfan who deeply analyzed the source material in between breaks or whatever or maybe it's because I have consoomed a lot of media but nothing about how this ended surprised me, infact it was obvious to me from the beginning that things were going to go down how they did (i.e. Eren wasn't going to randomly turn on his friends and would be redeemed, Eren was obviously going to be in love with Mikasa etc). I don't really get how people had a visceral reaction to what were obvious story beats that have been done a million times before in other stories or how they genuinely expected the story to go any other direction, I have to assume it's a babby's first anime moment when I hear people getting so upset about it.
For a lot of people it was a matter of wishful thinking. They wanted Eren to be more intelligent and more badass than he really is. So they came up with theories that fit that. But then it didn't happen, thus the anger.
Yeah this is what I've figured. To any casual watcher who didn't spend time wish fulfilling and delving in to fan theories, the plot going from A to B to C is obvious. If you thought otherwise it's because you analyzed it too deeply and thought headcanons would become reality thanks to nolifers online validating you/each other.

It's common in manga/anime especially so things playing out they way they did was obvious... again if you've watched enough series you'll learn what to expect, it's basic media literacy and an understanding of the writing process/formula. Consoom more stories and stop getting invested in fan speculation online, simple as.

I don't like anime in general but loved AoT. It is the only media I can think of which illustrates a case where two nations are engaged in total war with one another and it can only end with the complete victory of one over the other. AoT didn't back down from this premise until the conclusion which still deserves praise. Vae victis. I was just reminded of this today and figured I'd finally watch the anime ending. Ever since the final chapter of the manga came out, it pissed me off so badly I dropped the anime completely. But I think I'm ready to get triggered again, and the animation looks kino.
Worst moment for me in the series was Armin and the other homosexuals becoming traitors and killing their friends for the sake of a world that hates and wants to genocide them, frick was that scene awful. The one where they team up with Annie and kill their friends on the docks. Was the homosexual jap author trying to make Armin seem like the good guy through this? He is divorced from reality.
The only redeeming thing in the whole ending travesty are the extra pages he quickly shat out after the ending was released, which was funny as frick how much of a panic mode, damage control move that was
