It's for in theater movies that aren't released to streaming. Unless you have screeners and they are available for the film in question you can't watch it at home without a service like this.

you talk as if it's something special. it's literally a theater that is very small, so it's expensive to 'book it all'.

also it's worse since the screen is small lol...

so it's just for seeing the same movies, but a few months earlier? also you dont have have to be rich to get screeners. do you think you're rich?

It might be moronic to you and me, but imagine living in Burgerland where people ape out and clap at the kinoplex. Makes a bit more sense to want private screenings, doesn't it?

It is special in that it is a proprietary encrypted copy that's locked down and requires their hardware (just like a DCP in a regular theater), as opposed to a webrip that is decrypted and you can watch anywhere. That's my only distinction and I was making it because of the person I replied to. Otherwise I agree.

Every now and again they even brag, like when they showed the forbidden version of 2001: A Space Odyssey in England just to wealthy connected people.

      Pls elaborate on this

I've looked for a link, but an official news source, either the BBC or another English website reported that the 20 minute longer version of 2001 was played in a theater for rich fricker only, the public was not invited.
Kubrick explicitly stated in his will that the version that premiered never be shown again in its entirety, yet they played it anyway (based).

Then you got all the complete versions of numerous films that just the filmmakers and their friends have access to, like The Goonies and Return of the Jedi.

Yes. But don't think that just because it was shown once 12 years ago, that people with money and connections aren't able to view it themselves.

Are rich people upset that they're rich in current era and not in the 1900s or 1800s.
their standards of living today aren't THAT different from the masses, compared to aristocrats & peasants at feudal times.

      Anonymous

yes, that's why they have to degenerate, exploit, and humiliate the poors, and make sure they stay poor, so their wealth and power still has relative value.

      Anonymous

Are you kidding? They live like gods.
The discrepancy is that the elites are not aristocrats, they don't have the pedigree, good breeding, manners of refined taste of past ruling classes.
They consoom the same trash entertainment than the masses.
That's what makes the wealth inequality today intolerable: elitoids are NOT better than the average person, they are not smarter or more elgant than the average Joe, their status and privilege is entirely due to nepotism and a rigged system.
