If you think about it the premise doesn't make any sense. All of the animals are basically second class citizens even though they can talk, communicate with humans, wear clothes, etc. It's speciesism but the animals seem to be okay with it. They go to school but don't learn anything that could get them a job because they're not allowed to have one outside of the zoo.
The only thing they can do after graduating is be a zoo animal, except the staff, who DO have jobs working at the school. The teachers don't seem to live at the zoo because they have cars and drive to work. Why do you have to teach a wild animal how to be an animal anyways?

this show was overall the dictionary definition of average, but overall I think it aged better than most of the shows of the era in aside from Megas XLR and Ben 10, certainly more so than Foster's

Granted, Lazlo is also just overall less interesting than Gym Partner because the latter was willing to go to some real fricking bizarre lengths like the episode where the monkey's transferred to a plant school or the one where the teachers were replaced with robots.

that pretty much sums up my thoughts comparing the two, Camp Lazlo is technically the better show, but Gym Partner has more interesting episode ideas for the most part, also Gym Partner doesn't have the issue Camp Lazlo has where it has the specter of a much much better prior show from it's creator(Rocko's Modern Life) hanging over its head to be compared to*
*which come to think of it was arguably even worse for Squirrel Boy since it was created by Duckman's creator and was such a mediocre show

CN had been great for years and you suddenly go from the stuff like the Cartoon Cartoons, Toonami, or the original Adult Swim shows that felt really unique and creative to stuff like My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Squirrel Boy, Juniper Lee, Camp Lazlo, etc. that's just dull, soulless, kid shit with nothing clever or interesting about any of it. It all just felt like rejected Nickelodeon shows, not anything that belonged on Cartoon Network.
Which was probably the point because Samples hated anything that had appeal to an older audience. He thought cartoons were for kids which meant that Cartoon Network had to be aimed at kids instead of having a broader appeal which meant turning CN into Nickelodeon Lite. He's also the dipshit who greenlit live action stuff.

The show was too ugly due to the art style for it to have succeeded at making furries. And the show's humor was a mix of stupid and annoying. So that also crippled the idea of amassing an audience. Does not help the show focused on the animal species furries do NOT like.

He can draw Looney Tunes like nobody's business. His work as a writer is questionable since he wrote for the Kids WB shows post-Animaniacs that weren't good.
He's listed as co-creator with Julie Cahill (his wife) but he was the one who came up with the concept for the show, designed the characters, and co-wrote most of the episodes in S1. I think his wife probably gave the show its cynical tone.
The reason why MGPAM felt like SpongeBob-lite as it went on is because they got former crewmembers from SpongeBob and Ren and Stimpy to work on it.

He can draw Looney Tunes like nobody's business. His work as a writer is questionable since he wrote for the Kids WB shows post-Animaniacs that weren't good.
He's listed as co-creator with Julie Cahill (his wife) but he was the one who came up with the concept for the show, designed the characters, and co-wrote most of the episodes in S1. I think his wife probably gave the show its cynical tone.
The reason why MGPAM felt like SpongeBob-lite as it went on is because they got former crewmembers from SpongeBob and Ren and Stimpy to work on it.
