Some of those artists behind these comics like Meredith Gran, Luke Pearson, and Dana Simpson would find success like the Vivziepops and Gooseworx of today. To be honest that’s what I like Vivzie, that her style is something straight out of late 00s/early 10s DA culture and people can make fun of it or hate it but there’s one indisputable fact: no one else in the industry draws like her. Her style is her own and it doesn’t look like your typical run of the mill generic Beanmouth style or Rick and Morty Style. That’s one of the benefits of having online artists become part of the animation industry without having to conform to the industry worst trends.
Also, some of those old webcomic artists where also industry people as well like Luke Pearson (or Luke Weber kek), others began their lives as webcomic artists only to then be discovered by industry people which led to them becoming animation professional artists as was the case with Rebecca Sugar! Others like Dobson where artists who wanted to become part of the animation industry but their stagnant skills and general toxic online behavior made sure they would never foot in a studio.

I look today’s indie animation scene (Hazbin, MonkeyWrench, Digital Circus, Sublo and Tangy) and I realize that’s to today’s generation what webcomics where to mine: independent online based works of art that are pretty popular amongst online fan communities. Some of those artists behind these comics like Meredith Gran, Luke Pearson, and Dana Simpson would find success like the Vivziepops and Gooseworx of today. Even the shitty ones got some love at the start, I remember Dobson having a pretty good following on DA before he became a laughing stock so much so that even DAgays would also make fun of him on the site. The art is superficially solid and writing generally inoffensive at first glance. I used to follow it too before the endless hiatuses made it easier to really analyze it and realize it was shit.
It also helps being completely ignorant of just how big of a gay Diaz is. The second I started looking at his social media was probably the moment I thought "wait, why am I reading this goober's comic?"
I had a similar experience, but also could spot so many obvious psychological problems and insecurities in this guy that I couldn't look at any of his work without thinking
