Watch the original anime, then watch the combined movies or whatever that shit is. That's it. You get more out of the anime, then the condensed stuff adds slightly more but still repeats aspects. If you want more just read the manga.
I want to say to start from the very beginning, but the very first berserk chapters have derpy art and the storytelling isn't very engaging.
If you don't like the first chapters, then start with golden age.
honestly I hate the Black Swordsman arc and it doesn't jive with what we learn about Guts in later chapters
I get that Miura hadn't fully conceptualized the story and characters yet, and Guts behavior is rationalized as him going through a dark period post-Eclipse, but man, Black Swordsman arc Guts is the unironic edgelord one-dimensional superhero all of Berserk's critics think he is
honestly I'm not a manga person and I loved the '97 anime but read the manga. It's really good and even the '97 anime is missing some things I feel really add to the story for at least the golden arc
Watch the 1997 anime, it keeps all the good stuff from the manga while cutting out the unnecessary garbage, plus the story goes to shit after the anime ends anyways so you aren't missing anything.
If you want more nuanced directions, here it is:
If you don't care for anime adaptations, just skip and read the manga from the beginning,
If you do want anime, watch the 1997 anime, I'm sure you already know some vague details about the eclipse and how that ends already, so that's perfect going into the first episode.
After you finish the anime, go read in the manga where the anime leaves off, and finish the last few chapters in this arc. After this you can take a break if you want.
If you want to continue and maybe read the rest of the story, Start the manga from the beginning, which takes place after the arc you finished, and once you see Guts meet the band of the hawk again, you can skip until the end of the arc if you want since the anime covers most of that (You will miss some things though, so read through it on a re-read later)
>I want a Berserk adaption that is a giant piece of shit which butt fricks the source material in the ass worse than donovan did to guts
This is what you are saying if you want a Berserk series done by anyone in or close to the Hollywood of today.
>first couple of volumes are an edge fest >figure people might enjoy some backstory >these consequent volumes become the most popular stories in the franchise >rest of the story is forgettable trash
One day I'll ready the manga. Having only watched the original + films it's definitely the perfect type of media that leaves you wanting. I doubt the manga has ended or even leaves a better taste. It's the best example of setting up something epic with no real payoff. Loveably hateable.
I started reading the manga right after the boat arc ended. By the time I caught up, it had declined in quality so much that I didn't even care that it wasn't finished. The Lost Children arc is the last part that's worth reading imo.
author died they fought some yohoho pirates and a kraken, they got to the elf island, Schierke and Farnese entered inside Casca's mind an fixed her brains
Miura's assistants are continuing it at pretty much the same glacial pace as before. Griff shows up to elfistan and wrecks the place + kidnaps Casca back to his kingdom. Guts in on the boat again, losing his shit. They did succeed in unfricking Casca's mind though.
>Last thing Miura did before dying was to give Guts happiness then rip it away from him again
And I wouldn't have it any other way

>half of berserk is edgy shit so unbearable that you will literally cut yourself by accident reading it >the other half is gay JRPG shit
Cinemaphile was right about Japan
Guillermo Del Toro is a fat moron and so are you
just read the manga and shut up and stop asking for shitty remakes and adaptations and be happy with what you fricking have
>Guillermo Del Toro directing Berserk
Every member of the Godhand will have a nazi uniform and the Apostles will be dressed like blackshirts. Casca would be played by Leslie Jones. Casca and Guts would remain platonic despite Guts' obvious lust for her because she's a strong independent woman or lesbian or whatever. Everybody would hate it except for a few film critics who would clap like trained seals. The special effects would be highly stylized and likely be the only redeeming part of the movie
No director in this day and age could adapt berserk and do it right. Just let it go. Hell villenueve couldn't do dune, Snyder couldn't do superman and dredd wasn't even that good. The Manga and anime are popular amongst their niche community, do you really want the GoT season 5-7 treatment for our angsty antihero?
that would be some fricking epic kino for the win
No, frick that stupid commie Hispanic.
Eggers can do horror + gory medieval combat, so I nominate him to do a live-action berserk movie.
better a globohomosexual director from the tribe to fill the movie with nigs and gays
also frick live action adaptations
Eggers doesn't fill his movies with shitskins

how do I get into Berserk

Prologue, Chapter 1, The Black Swordsman
Learn to read Black person.
Read the manga.
Then watch the 97 anime.
Then watch the movies.
watch the 1997 anime. DO NOT read the manga
>DO NOT read the manga
why?
There's a cute naked fairy in it and it WILL make you gay.
Miura really didn't have to make Puck so fricking sexy.
there's no good conclusion to it and the cast of characters is not so likeable
You look up the 1997 anime series and start with episode 2, watching episode 1 only after you finish the last episode, that's how.
moron
My way is based, if only someone as based as me had told me to do it like that before I watched it.
honestly I'm not a manga person and I loved the '97 anime but read the manga. It's really good and even the '97 anime is missing some things I feel really add to the story for at least the golden arc

Watch the 97 anime
read the manga if you want more, for the love of god stop after falcon of the millenum empire arc.

Berserk is unadaptable.

anti Schierke squad has arrived
>I want a Guillermo Del Toro
You lost all validity right there.
YOU ARE VALID ANON
YAAAAAAAAAAS

He should do GUYVER
he wont do it because he can't shoehorn in frencesco franco
I remember that series. Dropped when they got on the boat for years on end. How did it end?
author died they fought some yohoho pirates and a kraken, they got to the elf island, Schierke and Farnese entered inside Casca's mind an fixed her brains
Oh and Griffith fused the fantasy realm with the human realm with The Great Roar of the Astral World
>get off the boat
>it's been 7 (?) years
>get to elfistan
>about to unpotato casca
>miura dies
I think someone was going to continue it? Not sure.
they menaged to unpotato her before the author died.
>Last thing Miura did before dying was to give Guts happiness then rip it away from him again
And I wouldn't have it any other way

>Back on the boat
Ahaha what the FRICK

Guts would be a poor black boy while Griffth will be a white nazi who read mein kampf. There will also be some allegory for Ukraine vs Russia.

Berserk is a harem anime now
>Donovan
>Casca
>A disgusting demon apostle
This is Guts' sex life

I'd rather not. He'd look for the way to add MUH FASCISM EVIL drivel, or MUH WHITE MAN EVIL.
