I want to make a comic where it's like Pokemon but the MC is a lunatic who beats them up with his bear hands and no one can really explain why he can karate punch a Charizard into submission. I think that would be pretty cool.

Someone beating up pokemon would be pretty fun to see

      that sounds cool do it

Humans are just Pokemon who get to decide what type they are. Some choose to be normal, some even fairy types, but me I'm a fighting type with fist of steel.

thanks anons. now i have to think about whether to essentially drop this character into a pastiche of the pokemon world or a deconstruction of it (i.e., is he just a Trainer who uses his fists or is he a paid worker who deals with Pokemon "infestations")

        go normal pokemon world.
makes his behavior more entertaining when he punches some teenagers haracross in the gut.

yeah, I was already leaning towards that because the mental image is too entertaining not to pass up.
He either has to be a manlet ball of rage or a lanky ape-like motherfricker. I feel just making him look like every other Pokemon human would detract from his weirdness.

            Anonymous

I think him being 'normal' would enhance it actually.
Like, if he is a wildman from the woods you may expect him to fight himself.
But if he is just some guy in jeans and a jacket then no one suspects him to football kick a pikachu

              Anonymous

              that's true.
I also like the idea of him getting legitimately fricked up (blood, scars) while the Pokemon take the PG-style damage ("#" bruises and dizzy eyes). If he took off his jacket and he was riddled with a whole bunch of scars, all from different Pokemon, it'd be a great visual addition.

That could even work as an intro of sorts to the comic

Wasn't there a fancomic like that except instead of punching them he just used a gun?

That was my favorite Digimon series just by that simple fact, what a fricking chad

It's a genuinely good show, Masaru indeed is a chad.

And before that, we had Monster Rancher

I don't recall Genki doing much physical fighting while Masaru punches everything every episode. It's been 20 years, though.

I rewatched some episodes a few days ago. Genki joined every fight against the baddies, he doesn't punch as much as he kicks, as his main gimmick is using his rollerblades to gain momentum and hit harder.

I didn't went too far in my rewatch, but I remember that in Season 3 (Or 2, depending on your region), when they started that tournament arc, the referee had to practically tell him:
          >"Dude, no... you can't fight in the arena with your monster"
All that was missing was him telling "this is a pokemon rip-off, not a DBZ one".

Manly Guys Doing Manly Things had a trainer using a Magikarp as a club until he defeated enough Pokémon for it to evolve into a Gyardos.

another idea that will never get made

also why does he need to catch pokemon if he never uses them

He doesn't catch them. He just beats them up. Or they beat him up.

He could just enjoy the companionship or maybe the pokemon choose to follow him out of admiration for his strength.

      So basically Digimon Data squad?

Bro literally threw hands with digimon more than he used his agumon.

      >Not a shot at you anon, I remember this being the coolest shit as a kid. Something about a teen seeing the devil and horrifying monsters and just punching them into submission/death

Dammit a Fighting type Gym trainer who can fist fight pokemon and his roster is all the pokemon who were resilient enough to keep trying to best him and now they're more his disciples than his pets sounds fun as frick.

I'm surprised it took 2 hours and a couple dozen posts for someone to bring this up. Though it lost the premise pretty early and became mostly Muscle Men Doing Girly Things. And never wrapped up Jared's plot.

Anyway, it died 5 years ago yet the creator still posts regularly on Twitter, which feels like its own commentary on the present.

Yep, it's apropos that their last comic was on the first God of War soft reboot game, because if they were still going, both that and the whole ass second game that got developed would be goldmines for Manly Dude jokes.

I don't care. I'm not one of her friends or her fanclub. I don't need a consistent post schedule or demand that they specifically fill my insatiable lust for content to consume. I just think the way they walked away from the project with no further statement than "I need a break," and haven't come back to be unimpressive.

Also, Twitter is a shithole and I think less of anyone using it.

I always want to do that, but couldn't get around to it because of how much time I would have to dedicate; try a novel. There this site called royalroad literally designed for this and way crazier concept make it big there. There is even a good fanbase for pokemon of all generations.

An idea that I've seen a lot in pokemon fanfic is the idea that humans can be typed. There already is obvious evidence of this in the games and anime with psychics being a thing.
Being able to manifest this can be evidenced in aura; as well as the bond phenomenon.
Your guy would just be a human with the fight type and subconscious aura control.

(Also human's aren't pokemon, since they can't shrink.)
