Kek I never understand this shitpost. Where exactly are you supposed to be hearing people talk about this movie that came out 5 months ago? What other movies are being talked about 5 months later?
You have movie classics by famous directors that are talked about years later, and franchises like Star Wars / Marvel, but no one is talking about any random blockbuster months after its release.
Like do you just expect.a whole shitload of tweets still discussing this movie? Memes being passed around it for years on end? Name some other movies to do that, please.
I doubt they did this on purpose but they lowered [the adult audience's] expectations when they started releasing clips of Chris Pratt Mario not sounding good at all. Then when the movie came out he didn't sound so bad, and the artificial relief from that distracted people from actually critiquing the movie on its own.
The movie sucks. The characters, the setting, and the atmosphere are nothing like how they were in the video games. It's not funny, the animation is nothing impressive, the writing is bad, every moment in the movie is either stupid or boring. And Jack Black does not play a good Bowser. The shtick of having Bowser be a musical artist on the side was fricking lame and shoehorned in because it was Jack Black playing Bowser.
>they could make a soulful 30-minute movie with no dialog >make a bloated 1 hour movie with boring Hollywood writing
It should have been a Japanese movie
>finish watching a movie >come to Cinemaphile >there's always a thread on front page that someone just created about the movie I watched
Am I cursed, bros? It's not even just with recent movies, no matter how old or obscure the movie I watched, I always come here and there's a thread about it
Maybe someone is watching me and creating those threads to make me think I'm crazy?
I'm not that big a fan of Mario but the movie felt soulless/not like a love letter to the franchise. But maybe it was full of references and I just didn't pick them up. Can anyone weigh in on how good of a movie it was from the homage perspective?
It had tons of references but you’re correct, it was very soulless and empty, and the references were shallow “hey remember this, guys, huh? Huh?” Type things like you’d expect in a shitty marvel/nuWars movie. If it didn’t have the Mario skin, it would just be your average adventure movie without soul (is illumination studios even capable of it? Lol)
You guys might be expecting too much out if it.
Remember it is meant for kids; the main goal in that case is to be fun, which it is, bit it isn't godawful outside of thar, which is a step above a fair chunk of kid shit.
You’re right about it being meant for kids, but I disagree that this means it’s above discussion. And despite being for kids, the heavy nostalgiabait that it was packaged with was definitely not for children. It wasn’t a bad movie necessarily, it just felt like something that could have been just as good without any franchise IP, nothing about it felt uniquely like a Mario property. For all it’s faults, the sonic movies felt more like something sonic-y in comparison.
Seethe all you want, I stand by it. Sonic I the movies may not have been great, but felt more like his character from other media, than Mario did. Mario felt like any other typical uninteresting dreamworks/imagination/French shit studio character wearing Mario clothes.

I enjoy when the sonic inferiority complex presents itself even in a thread shitting on le mario movie. sonic 06 must’ve been very traumatic for you
Soulless westoid slop of the lowest caliber. At least in Sonic you got Jim Carrey playing as himself and it was mildly amusing. In this, you get Seth Rogen and Jack Black and a very long video game cut scene. Nothing about it is memorable. The only thing I really remember is the nihilist blue star in the cage because I was thinking just how israeli you had to be to put something like that in a children's movie
They should have given the movie to that japanese guys who did the Lupin the III 3D film, was fantastic and not that meme Polygon Pictures CGI dogshit tier. But no instead illumination toddler meme trash, goddamit
Same. It was too kiddie and vanilla for me. The fan service scene's felt thoughtless and uninspired. I actually had to come back 2 or 3 times just to complete it, that's how much of a drag it was for me.
WOWIE ZOWIE
I think everybody was. Don't really hear anything about it. One of those zero cultural impact movies.
>One of those zero cultural impact movies.
yep
is this thread not an example of said cultural impact?
>implying a Bangladeshi sheep shearing forum has any sort of relevance to the greater culture at large
Lad.
if shills exist, then yes. reminder wb first leaked supergirl’s casting and costume on Cinemaphile

explain what you expected
(hard mode: and why you expected it)

To explain it in the most reductionist fashion, it’s a generic illumination plot in Mario cosplay, rather than a Mario movie.
>It's not funny, the animation is nothing impressive, the writing is bad
But enough about every Nintendo game ever.
I am dreading the Zelda movie. The franchise would be best served by a Ghibli-type anime but we're going to get some westoid MCU shit
They really should let Ghibli do a Zelda movie if there has to be one.
You're gonna get an unironic pic related and you'll like it
If only. That show was really entertaining. It couldn't be done today

No one asked.

frick off

Shut up moron.

Hearing Rogan's signature laugh coming out of Donkey Kong was offensive to me
I couldn't even watch 1/3rd of the movie, I had to skip all the cringe stuff
They should have given the movie to that japanese guys who did the Lupin the III 3D film, was fantastic and not that meme Polygon Pictures CGI dogshit tier. But no instead illumination toddler meme trash, goddamit
i was pleasantly amused
I didn't mind it.
It was fun enough, Peach was girlbossed though.
Not enough Bowser.
Seth Rogen should be shot.

if they do a zelda movie, will they give her a big plump ass in yoga pants?
No but you can bet your ass Zelda will be a 'woke' feminist who will emasculate Link.
peaches was a pretty good song
Illumination knows what they must do for the sequel
I didn't mind it. It was just kinda there...ya know. Couldn't hate it, didn't love it. True Mid.
