Glad it wasn't just me. This is possibly the saddest I've ever felt due to media, along with the guy getting his egg smashed at the beginning of Shadowmancer. Why did they put such a painful thing in a kid's cartoon? My whole life I didn't even like remembering this scene because it's just so sad and pitiful

I like Katie Rice and her webcomics, and I'm sure John-K was an inappropriate sperg who shouldn't be left alone around kids. But I genuinely don't believe that he diddles kids. First and foremost, he's very obviously a sperg with little impulse control. He's the type that draws what's on his mind, and he almost always draws women like this. Also, if Katie had any actual, serious, rape/molestation allegations, she would/should have aired them out when MeToo was still profitable.

S1 Arnold feels like a different show. 2 and onward deal with the drama of the kids a lot more, which probably got pushed on by Helga's popularity. S1 is really comfy, but Iiked the show throughout its entire run, including TJM.

I never liked this show as a kid, it's just so fricking depressing. Kids are just in a gray concrete jungle in the inner city and it's just so lifeless.
Maybe because I was raised in the countryside, but I can't imagine at all how kids can be raised in the city.

what about the suburbs, are they the same in your opinion because I grew up watching hey Arnold in the suburbs but lived 30/20 minutes away from a major city but not too close to be like in hey Arnold where they live in town houses.

        Anonymous

Suburbs feels better i think, most people living there (or used to?) are family people. There's still lots of green stuff and some nature even around. Kids can do lots of kids stuff and play around freely.
Like if I watch Edd,Ed and Eddy I don't get the same depressed feeling at all, even if it might not be the most fair compassion as Hey Arnold is a more "realistic"

But I think it also has to do with the artstyle in Hey Arnold always looked a bit depressing to me, was quite dark, gray and sad looking.

The only episodes I recall were one where it looked the city was flooded and they were stuck in the school, another where Arnold, the bully and some other guy get stuck in a tree, the one with the pigeons, the one where some guy refuses to go down the stairs, the where Arnold and the Ice Cream Man work together and lastly another where Arnold meets some dude that looks like him.

It's fine. It's just a long episode of HA. The VA are all good and none of the boys sound too far off despite being all new actors. It exists in a weird time bubble where they have cell phones and shit but it isn't contemporary perse.
It gives nice closure and a decent explanation for what happened to his parents. Arnold and Helga date in the end but she's still too tsundere to hold his hand in front of people.

It was meh. It wasn't what Bartlett wanted to do and they basically stretched an episode into a movie. I think it was the last thing that got made except for the April Fool's episode, prior to TJM.
That April Fool episode is interesting to watch. Animation is different, some new VA, and even the tone feels changed. Arnold is pretty overly aggressive with Helga at the end.

I barely remember Hey Arnold when it aired, but looking at clips and whatnot, it’s pretty dark for Nickelodeon show, wasn’t Helga’s mom an alcoholic but the show doesn’t outright say it?

        Anonymous

        She's always making "smoothies."
Arnold has its moments. Not even dark all the time. Just down time where people are just chilling and vibing. It wasn't afraid to slow down the pace and let viewers think about what's happening.
I always liked the one where Helga spends all night ruining Arnold's date with Lila. At the end she asks if he's gonna give up since it was so terrible and he says no. He leaves and a degected Helga stands there in disbelief as the theme park shuts down around her. Peak soul.
