expecting it to be pretentious or meaninglessly zany. I was wrong, I thought it was a very great film. What did Cinemaphile think?

It’s kino of course. Watch Mulholland Drive
I will do.
What do you recommend? I've heard The Elephant Man is great.
Just watch his movies in chronological order, they're not many
Lost Highway is his greatest film imo.
Its alright but not one of his best
It was prentious and meaninglessly zany
One of my favorite kinos. Frank Booth is literally me.
I'LL FRICK ANYTHING THAT MOVES
*inhales deeply*
DON'T YOU FRICKING LOOK AT ME
WHERES MY BOURBON?!
Blue Velvet is where Lynch basically spells out all of the symbolism that he uses later in his filmography:
>Frank is obsessed with Roy Orbison's classic song (in dreams I walk with you)
>Frank is also associated with fire, violence, and sexuality
>The fireman at the beginning represents wholesome Americana and conservative values (putting out the fire)
>Literally just think about all the references to fire in Lynch's later movies (Fire Walk with Me, in dreams I walk with you, do you get it?!?!?)
I want to see the helium cut, bros...
Always thought it was helium.
Always knew it was Gina.
Kino
It might’ve been kino had there not been such blatant product placement. Cringe as frick.
What's in the corner of this poster?
'baskin roberts
trust fund band'
Is this a subtle baskin roberts thread?
If you want another straightforward Lynch movie watch The Straight Story.
I think I'll watch his whole filmography honestly.
Elephant Man and Eraserhead are good picks to begin with. The TV series Twin Peaks (season 1 and 2) is great as well, watch it before Fire Walk With Me.
Lynch is extremely soulful and only partially pretentious. Like everything make by Pink Floyd prior to The Wall
LET'S FRICK
Here's that teenage bombshell I was telling you about
she has a powerful cry face
>you were saying?
more Dern for me then
I agree Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet are kino, but when I see someone praise Lost Highway I assume they're < 85 iq
This literally made me get into Lycnh. This is literally a piece of fine art and we all know this.
Also, went to watch Lost Highway after that and let me tell you, i didn't finished it. In fact, i've watched 18 minutes of it. I dislike the spooky fricked up white protagonist that can't get an erection lynched vibes, if you know what i mean. I've began Twin Peaks though, but people told me the second season sucks so i don't know if i should watch it. I'm gay.
>pretentious or meaninglessly zany
why would you expect that? because you're a moron who thinks that either of those words describe the work of David Lynch?
listen frickface, Lynch is literally just making abstract/surrealist paintings that move, he's talked about this plenty of times throughout his career. there's nothing whatsoever pretentious about him or his work, and what you view as "zany" is just surrealism. there's a strange paradox with Lynch's work where you don't need a high IQ to "understand" it, there isn't some deep mystery to solve that tests your intelligence, yet at the same time stupid people tend not to understand the concept of surrealism and also tend to listen to whatever other stupid people tell them, so ironically low IQ people end up hating Lynch anyway even though there's nothing in it that's actually going over their heads, they just think that there is because they're so stupid.
>surREAL
>absurd: arbitrary, senseless
Plenty of paintings where mundane objects are neither happenstance nor insignificant, empty signs. Lynch has clear, lucid aims and ideas in mind-- there's always a story there.
From Wikipedia:
>Surrealism is an art and cultural movement [...] in which artists aimed to allow the unconscious mind to express itself, often resulting in the depiction of illogical or dreamlike scenes and ideas
I think that very accurately describes Lynch's work.
>low IQ people end up hating Lynch anyway even though there's nothing in it that's actually going over their heads, they just think that there is because they're so stupid.
Never thought of it this way, but that actually makes a lot of sense
It draws you in, smothers you and then kisses you gently goodnight
Fantastic film, I got to see a showing of it the other year with the cinematographer of it (who himself hadn’t seen the film in a long time) and even he was blown away by how good it was after all these years.
This and FWWM are my favorite Lynch movies. Mulholland Drive is great, but it's reputation always surprises me. It's almost always on top 10 lists
Is it after season 2?
FWWM? Watch it after season 2, then the Return. When you get to FWWM, find the version that includes the missing pieces
>find the version that includes the missing pieces
What?
I think this is the version, it includes deleted scenes that someone edited in
https://archive.org/details/fwwm-extended-blue-rose-cut
Pretty sure anons here told me to watch this over the original release
Mulholland Doctor spoilery question What's with the old couple scaring the blonde mc, what the frick was their problem?
I think they kind of bookend the movie, going along with the hopeful beginning and then hammering home the situation at the end
It's about how the older generation failed her by encouraging her to follow her dreams and go to LA instead of telling her to pursue a more realistic career.
I adore it. I own the criterion.
