I liked the northman but it did a simple revenge story without the elements that makes a revenge story compelling. For example the uncle was not an interesting villain at all, at some point he was just in the wild breeding sheeps and I didn't really cared for him to die while in the gladiator they did a good job in setting up Commodus to be a piece of shit, you got more invested in the hero motivation and it was more satisfying when Maxmus took his revenge.

I think editing and direction where more of an issue than the script
The movie looked very nice sounded nice but most of the silly shit didn't translate well and the movie was way too long winded and had pacing issues.
I can see why it bombed I didn't hate it but compared to the better Scott movies it's nowhere near any of them
